This cotton hails from “Tocca.” I’ll be honest with you–I have no idea if that’s a designer house, or a fabric designer, but it jumped in and out of my cart for *months* before I finally said yes to the dress.
My indecision had a lot to do with color (or muted-ness thereof) and…cotton. Cotton! I don’t get it, y’all! I like a little something something in my cotton. A dash of silk, a soupçon of rayon, maybe some lurex. But this stuff. This stuff is One. Hundred. Percent.
Those giant flowers kept calling to me, though. As I lounged on the sofa in my beloved, well-worn, eight year old, maxi-fied rayon Derby Dress, I wondered why I hadn’t made another, and then it hit me: the panels of the very dress I was wearing (to pieces) could perhaps be the perfect match for those cotton blooms.
Of course, some of those flowers got a haircut here and there, and I had to play with the grain just a wee bit to get them to land in a pleasing way. It was a bit of an arranged marriage between pattern and fabric, but they’re getting along nicely.
That said, this particular bachelor is currently out of stock online, but I have seen another bolt in the NY store (and seen it, and walked away, and seen it…). There’s more Tocca to peruse here! And more summer temperatures on the way in my neck of the woods, so get ready for ALL OF THE MAXI DRESSES.
SUMMER, Y’ALL! SUMMER!!!!
