When I picked this wool/poly-blend gingham at the Mood Fabrics NYC store, I knew exactly what I wanted it to be. A sleeveless version of my TNT dress with white piping.
I played around with several other options but I kept coming back to this simple silhouette which highlights the fabric, because that’s what I really wanted—to highlight the fabric. Here are a few ginghams from MoodFabrics.com.
I saw this picture of gingham-style outfits in the November 2013 issue of Vogue Magazine and I knew I was on the right track. Even when making my wool bouclé jacket, I knew that I really wanted the two pieces to work together.
Since it’s a simple sew—I’ve made the dress quite a few times already—it was a matter of pretreating the poly/wool blend fabric and making a few decisions. The dress is lined with white bemberg rayon lining. It has an invisible zipper closure and white piping at the neckline and armholes.
However, what I really love is how well it works with the vanilla wool bouclé jacket from last month. Even though I used the black polka dots in the faux welt pockets, it doesn’t clash with the pink gingham and it even has a little of the print mixing that’s currently hawt!
A few more pictures of the jacket and dress…
A trendy fabric for the dress which is worn with a jacket in a hot fall color—yes, this is my Sunday best.
