I am carrying on the knit theme started by Sarah with her fabulous St John’s Knit.
I ordered this Mood Fabrics’ Striped Jersey and it sat for a couple months while I decided what I was going to make. In my last Mood Fabrics’ order, I ordered some very dark navy ponte and it was a perfect match. I am sorry to say the ponte is sold out.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a class with other sewists, you know the ones you have met through blogs and Instagram. It was so fun, so I packed up these two fabrics and off to Kansas City I went to have a great sewing day. Sewing and Sewing Friends, the best combination. The class was all the brain child of Sew Altered Style, fabulous job, Mac and Katie.
The pattern is Alina’s Fulton Sweater Blazer and I combined these two fabrics. I loved the contrast of the two fabrics and the navy was a good compromise for me, no matching with the collar and stripes!
This fabric was so easy to sew and cut, I used those stripes for alignment. I did cut one layer at a time and then matched all the colors/stripes for the second piece. The pattern does have a seam down the back, but hard to see using the one color stripe.
The collar is one of my favorite parts, Alina did a beautiful job with the design and instructions, you get a great finished look.
The pockets are big, which I like and with my navy color, look good on the front. I did use the contrast for the sleeve facing.
I didn’t finish my jacket at the class, I really just wanted to meet everyone and talk. We talked patterns, fabric, styles, techniques, etc. How did the day go so quickly?
One of the instructor’s for the class was Leslie, Thread Bear Garments, who just released her first pattern. The Taos Top, which, I made with these same fabrics, I have to use up more of this great stripe fabric. Leslie did a great job with design and drafting, with two views. I saw two of View B and they are so good, I am going to have to try those.
I matched the stripe of the cowl to the front and it really keeps a continuous line.
Here is how I will wear it for the the last few winter months.
I have to tell you if you can make it happen, go out and meet sewing friends, it is the best. Wear one of your favorite garments and go talk sewing and sewing fun. It was great to change these online sewing friends to real life sewing friends! Happy sewing all, this is such a great community.
