Utility dressing is one of the biggest trends for Spring 2019. So, I decided I would embrace a trench style. I’ve had McCall’s 6279 in my collection for years. It’s currently out of print, but oh-so relevant. For my fabric, I selected this Tomato Solid Organic Cotton Twill. And it’s absolutely perfect for a trench style anything. For the pattern, I cut a size 14, grading to a 16 at the waist and through the hips.I made a 1″ FBA and added 1″ to the waist and 2″ to the length. The dress is unlined, but has a facing and loads of top stitching. And amazing details such as epaulets and a Mandarin standing collar. And a back yoke which is a favorite detail on any shirt or shirt dress. The dress is cut on an A-Line style and has tab style belt carriers. And a self belt that I added a buckle to.My dress is based on a fabulous ready-to-wear dress.Derek Lam 10 CrosbyTo create the angled corners at the center front hem, I cut the area on the bias. And finished it off with a 1 1/4″ hem.
