Hanging in the Stretch Aisle

I wrote a bit about this dress last week on my blog; it was giving me fever and I was not happy. Mainly, I’m mad at myself. I did everything I could to second guess this pattern, the Elisalex Dress from By Hand London. I made my usual modifications on the fly, thinking I’d head problems off at the pass. Turns out, this baby fit me right out of the exceedingly lovely box. (I’m talking about the packaging, folks, soon to be drooled over on my blog–these patterns are something you’ll want to display in your room, totally bookshelf worthy.) […]

Stripes Take Two

I’ve always wanted to try out those Japanese pattern books where the garments seem like little works of art. I finally got my hands on an English translation of Drape Drape 2 by Hisako Sato as a gift from the publisher, and I launched right into pattern number 2: one-piece side drape top. Mixed Animal Prints Dress

This is Vogue 1314 by the fabulous designer, Tracy Reese. This is my fifth pattern from her. I own every single one she’s done for Vogue Patterns and hopefully I’ll get around to making them. I made this dress out of this gorgeous mixed animal print wool-blend jersey from Mood Fabrics. This fabric is gorgeous and truly luxurious. It was so easy to work with. Just keep in mind if you choose to purchase it that it’s only 54″ wide. This pattern was really easy for a Vogue “Designer” pattern. The most technical skill you need is the ability to […]

My Mood in October: Swingy Stripes

I’ve been in the mood for stripes lately – swingy stripes. For my big project this month, I wanted to find the perfect pattern to pair with a lovely striped wool jersey from Mood (sadly, out of stock, but here’s a similar, albeit narrower, stripe in the fetching combination of navy and pea green) that I bought with my Mood Sewing Network allowance. I was imagining a full, gathered skirt to take advantage of the beautiful drape in the fabric. When I was contacted by BurdaStyle about doing another guest post, I jumped at the chance to make their Swing […]
