Wool Jersey Swinger

I LOVE THIS DRESS!!! She is done up in Mood Fabric’s Italian double face wool & lycra jersey, she is the latest installment from the lovelies at By Hand London, she fit RIGHT OUT OF THE PACKAGE.  She is exquisitely drafted, she is my new little black dress, who would have ever thought I’d have two in my technicolor closet? The fabric is thick enough to skim and hug in all the right places, and yummy to sew with.  Except for the part where I godzilla steamed one of the bust cups and forever wrinkled it.  I have recently become […]

The Pea Coat!

Every year since this pattern was released back in 2005, I’ve planned to make this jacket.  I’ve bought fabric every single year and the fabric seems to get designated for another project each year.  For the life of me, I couldn’t remember why I’d never gotten around to making this.  But this year, I was determined to make my pea coat that I’ve wanted for so long. But, I did my best to not skimp on any of the steps – except maybe that last press to get the garment into ideal photo shape. Why not cut a corner here or there? Because this garment is actually destined to end up […]

Animal Print Wool-Silk Brocade Coat

Here’s my trick to not totally hating the long cold winters we have here in the Northeast: Own lots of different outerwear options. Winter is yucky (in my opinion), but I can bear it a little more if I don’t have to wear the same coat or jacket day in and out. So I make a new coat every season. I think this coat here is the sixth or seventh coat I’ve made in the last five years or so, and my hall closet is busting at the seams with coats and jackets. Why should anyone sew a coat, you […]
