Gold Stripes and Ivory Creme – Vogue 8747 and McCall 5818

I’m so happy to final post about this shirt that I made with Mood’s beautiful Italian Amber Striped Cotton-Rayon Shirting.  This is one gorgeous textile.  And I’m not just saying that because I’m a Mood blogger.  This is a definite must have fabric; you should get it!     The title color is “amber”, but I call it gold.  The online photo does not show the richness of the colors nor does it show the luster.  The sheen is not gaudy like some ultra shiny satin fabrics.  It’s luminous with gives an air of sophistication.  The striped pattern […]

Striped Wide Leg Crop Pants

Hollywood glam, 1940’s style is how I feel wearing these striped crop pants.  I am not that good with the fashion eras but that kept popping into my head when I was taking pictures for this blog post.  I feel quite glamorous wearing this outfit.  I think it has mostly to do with the fabric, an Italian Wool Pinstriped Wool Twill.. The Mood  Website defines Wool Twill as “Twill refers to a specific weave that features each weft yarn floating across the warp yarns in a progression of interlacings to the right or left, forming a distinct diagonal […]

Wool Plaid Wrap Mini Skirt

I ordered the fabric for this skirt back in August. It’s a textured woven plaid that Mood Fabrics titled “Park Avenue Wool-Blend” and is now sadly sold out (hence the reason I selected it in August when there were only a few yards left.) It sat around for several months until I discovered a pattern I had, Vogue 9209, that used this exact fabric for their envelope example drawing, and I suddenly knew what it would become. I cut a size 14 for the waist tapering out to between a 12 and 14 for the hips. Probably I could have […]

Black + White Geometric Print Dress in Wool Rayon

I am currently on the hunt for thicker-weight fabrics with draping properties to make winter dresses out of. This Marc Jacobs border print wool-rayon woven from Mood Fabrics caught my eye because I know rayon fabrics to have a great amount of drape and combined with wool I thought it would be perfect for winter. Also border print fabrics are fun to work with. I used Butterick 6409 for the pattern and made a few minor tweaks. There are lots of ways to use this fabric creatively because it has a thick border on one side and a thinner one on […]

Wool + Lace Black and White Dress

I’ve just finished a classy wool dress for fall/winter that I’m in love with! The idea for this garment has been floating around my brain for years and I’m just so pleased to see it turn out exactly how I imagined. I knew I wanted to play around with lace motifs and needed a lace that I could cut into that wouldn’t fray. The one I used is from Mood fabrics and is all sold out but here is a black 3D guipure lace that’s similar. The white is an ivory wool twill also from Mood fabrics and also all sold out. […]

Textured Wool Skirt

Finding wool clothing in south Texas is just about impossible. Of course our winters are pretty mild and don’t last half the year, but it does get cold here. Well, cold to me anyway. If I want wool clothing I have to make it myself, which I am perfectly okay with as it’s always such a well behaved fabric. I am really into textures lately, so when I spotted this striped novelty wool-acrylic blend at Moodfabrics.com, I quickly bought 1.5 yards without anything in mind. I decided to use Vogue 9154 and make the knee length version of the skirt. […]

Fuschsia Wool Ponte Dress

Ponte knit is a well known and much loved fabric amongst the sewers of the world. It’s beefy and stable qualities make it a great option for body-con dresses and structured designs. I’ve sewn with my fair share of it over the years and, as with most fabrics, there is a spectrum of quality available. When I spotted this “fuchsia rose wool ponte knit” on Mood Fabric’s website some months ago, I snapped it up faster then lightning. I adore natural fibers and was positive that a ponte knit made from wool would be heaven to work with. Unfortunately many […]

Italian Wool Pea Coat

What makes a great coat?  Well, I think many things but the first is great fabric and Mood Fabrics’ Italian Navy Wool Blended Coating is great fabric.  This fabric is luscious yardage that sews beautifully and worked its way into a gorgeous pea coat, Vogue 1467.  I knew when this pattern was released I wanted to make this coat in a deep, dark navy and this Italian Coating was perfect for the project.  The fabric is wool, nylon and cashmere, which is wonderful to the touch but also has loft and warmth. A sewalong was announced for this […]

A Trio of Wool, Fringe + Leather

This outfit took longer to make than it’s taking for Spring to decide to show her face. Mostly because I spent two days agonizing over how to place this wooly, almost blanket like, large scale print on a long sleeved Burdastyle balloon coat pattern. Had to hack oodles of length off the bodice to get away with my yard and a quarter…was left with whispers of fabric and a somewhat satisfactory placement… AND IN THE END I CUT THE DANG SLEEVES OFF THE THING ANYWAY. Then it was necessary to go to crazytown and zigzag topstitch over several yards […]
