Silk Crepe de Chine Maxi

I can’t even tell y’all how thrilled I am to be in cahoots with who we all know are my favorite MSN ladies, Oona and Sonja. Truth, they originally planned this as a duo, in which I walked straight into that party and invited myself to be the third wheel. I can’t help it; I love being part of a Mood Fabrics sandwich. Especially when it involves Thakoon Crepe de Chine. I mean, COME ON. So, as we all know at this point – this is the Anna dress, the newest offering from By Hand London. For mine, I decided […]

Thakoon Cotton Top

I had forgotten how awesome sewing with cotton is. I’ve realized that I much prefer it over, well satin. Ha I guess you could say I’m still a little scarred from that last satin dress I made. The cotton is this geometric print from Mood Fabrics. The designer is Thakoon and I think I got a little too excited when I realized who that was. (The September Issue!)  I was really impressed with him when I watched that so I’m glad to see he’s still designing. (Let’s pretend that I didn’t completely forget to iron the back of the shirt. […]

Cotton Voile Summer Top

When talking about the perfect summer fabric, I would have to say this Mood Fabrics’ Thakoon Cotton Voile is about as perfect as it gets.  I love this fabric, it is the perfect summer weight and just was so easy to sew.  In fact, I would love to buy all the fabric that felt just like this piece and sew many, many summer garments. I know when the temperature sores above 95 degrees, I want a summer top that makes you feel cool.  Right when this fabric arrived, I knew I would make it into Simplicity 2892, a pattern I have made […]

Gray Abstract Silk Cape Sleeve Dress

The moment I saw Butterick 5884, it was love at first sight.  And I knew I’d be making View B.  The other version was just too “basic”… like I’ve seen it too many times.   This dress reminds me of the Halston dresses my mother wore in the 70s.  It has that “I’m off to Studio 54” feel and that was also a draw.  And I knew I wanted to make it in a print, but nothing as bold as the one on the pattern envelope.  This design can hold its own.  So I went with another Thakoon silk crepe […]

Cotton and Coconuts and Curls

If I look self satisfied, IT IS BECAUSE I AM.  The reasons are twofold: 1. I conquered this cotton. 2. I conquered myself. I CONQUER, YO.  I AM A CONQUISTADOR OF COTTON.  (that may not mean what I think it means, but I’m going with it.  I have a sazerac in hand and no desire to use my dictionary widget.) Last month, I decided to try my hand at what my fellow Mood Sewing Network bloggers are old hat at: ordering online from Within a minute, I stumbled upon this Thakoon cotton, and these decorative coconut shells. It is almost […]
