Casual Coral Sweatshirt

After making two lined dresses in a row I decided I needed an easy project. For me, the easy projects I undertake usually end up being a lot more work then I think they’ll be. Not this time, though. I whipped up this fitted top in just a few hours. The fabric, a Thakoon coral sweatshirt cotton, was purchased from Mood fabrics a few years (!) ago and has long since sold out. Mood has a number of similar cotton terrycloth options available. My personal favorite is the grey and metallic terry knit, which I’ll probably get for another one […]

A Coral and Floral Draped-Back Top

I’ve been craving more easy pieces in my wardrobe lately. I would just love a closet full of pieces that can be effortlessly thrown together into outfits in the morning. I try really hard not to live in running clothes day in and day out, but some days I only have about five seconds to get ready.  It would be so nice to really only need those five seconds… because I love wearing everything in my closet and because so many things work well together. I started towards this goal a few months ago by de-cluttering and giving away a whole bunch of things I […]

Draped Tee in Silk-Cotton Jersey

This month I wanted a quick make, something that would leave me with plenty of time for holiday cheer… and chasing Baby Girl all around the house!  She’s now crawling, pulling up, and cruising around!  In fact, she’s so busy these days that I only have time to sew and blog while she’s sleeping.  I’ve had to resort to taking indoor shots here because I was only able to sneak in camera time during one of her noontime naps.  The best windows in the house are in the living room and dining room, two rooms which are currently covered in Christmas […]

Silk Summer Tanks Times Three

My Mood Sewing Network projects this month are all about fabric pairings.  It started with finding this Anna Sui silk crepe de chine panel print at Mood Fabrics online.  I thought it would pair nicely with some of the Mood Mark Jacobs embroidered dot silk I had left over from this shirtdress project, a garment which has mostly languished in the back of my closet. I’ve always wanted to make something I’d wear more often with the left over fabric since those raised dots are so fun!  An easy summer tank seemed just the thing, and the free By Hand London Polly Top was […]

Blue Silk Blouse for Fall

I’m usually the last person to switch over to fall sewing every year. August is so hot around here and I’m never ready to start thinking about making cool weather garments. However, what little enthusiasm I had for making maternity clothing has completely evaporated and I’m wanting to make some things I can wear after this baby is born in October. I always nurse my kiddos for the first year so will need my clothing somewhat unfitted on the top. A silk blouse was of course my first thought because I seriously love them and all the other ones I’ve […]

The Big Bang Dress and Cardigan

Hello everyone!  It’s nice to be here with you all again!  After taking a few months away from the Mood Sewing Network so that I could focus on my new baby, I really wanted to come back with a big bang.  I’d been keeping up with the Mood Fabrics New Arrivals page, and when this galaxy poly print from Mood Fabrics popped up, I knew it would be a stellar choice for my first MSN garment post baby. Haha!  Too much?!  Big bang… Galaxy print… Stellar?! Also, please tell me I’m not the only one who regularly checks the Mood Fabrics New Arrivals page? At […]

Designer Silk Crepe de Chine Long-Sleeve Top

I think I might be the last Mood Sewing Network blogger to make a garment out of Mood’s great Thakoon designer fabrics. Seriously. But, I’d seen a photo of how the designer used this fabric, and I couldn’t get his top out of my mind. That blue solid border wanted to be at the top of a long sleeve top, so of course I had to wait for some cooler weather to use it. This Thakoon designer fabric is a silk crepe de chine from Mood Fabrics, and it has a neat border of the tie-dye print morphing into a […]

Silk Crepe de Chine Wrap Top

I often think my Fall wardrobe is practically non-existent – most likely because I look like I’m coming down with something when I wear those traditional, Fall earth-tone colors. Fortunately the Pantone Fall 2013 report brings new colors to the mix translating into exciting possibilities for my closet! My first Fall sewing project needed to be a go-to garment. Being a lover of silk, I ordered this crepe de chine from Mood Fabrics by designer Thakoon—the gorgeous colors enhance every pair of pants I own! True, the fabric would make a beautiful special occasion garment, but I’ll feel special each time […]

Thakoon Cotton Dress for Summer

I’m sorry, but I just cannot get enough of these Thakoon cottons from Mood Fabrics. These are literally the BEST fabrics for summer, as far as I’m concerned. Thakoon is my new favorite  designer. If you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on his fabrics available at Mood, you’re in for a wonderful surprise —they’re so dreamy! This black-and-white Thakoon cotton I used here is super-soft and lightweight with the most beautiful drape. Since my pattern calls for a bit of contrast, I went with this lovely purple sateen. This one is soft and lightweight with a rich […]
