Summer of Silk Crepe

It’s been a summer of silk crepe for me.  First there were last month’s Polly tops, and now there’s this loose, fun wrap top made from Mood Fabrics’ pinstriped silk crepe de chine.  The pinstripe in this particular fabric reminded me of something you might see on a man’s shirt, but the softness of the silk felt very feminine.  And, while I could easily imagine it as a Grainline Archer, a pattern I’ve previously made and wear all of the time, I wanted to play up the softness of this fabric a bit more, so instead I chose the loose wrap Dotty Blouse […]

Silk Summer Tanks Times Three

My Mood Sewing Network projects this month are all about fabric pairings.  It started with finding this Anna Sui silk crepe de chine panel print at Mood Fabrics online.  I thought it would pair nicely with some of the Mood Mark Jacobs embroidered dot silk I had left over from this shirtdress project, a garment which has mostly languished in the back of my closet. I’ve always wanted to make something I’d wear more often with the left over fabric since those raised dots are so fun!  An easy summer tank seemed just the thing, and the free By Hand London Polly Top was […]

Blue Silk Blouse for Fall

I’m usually the last person to switch over to fall sewing every year. August is so hot around here and I’m never ready to start thinking about making cool weather garments. However, what little enthusiasm I had for making maternity clothing has completely evaporated and I’m wanting to make some things I can wear after this baby is born in October. I always nurse my kiddos for the first year so will need my clothing somewhat unfitted on the top. A silk blouse was of course my first thought because I seriously love them and all the other ones I’ve […]

Silk Crepe De Chine Romper

Last week we housed 5 adults and 2 children for 24 hours. And all I got was this awesome Silk Crepe De Chine thingamajig. One of said adults, the six-foot-fifty-eight one, was sporting a fabulous, flowy, silky pants-thing that had holes for your footsies and shirring at the top.  This dame, let’s call her The Diva, wore them because she knew I would specifically be fascinated by them.  Indeed I was.  I made her take them off that evening so’s I could study ’em. With two screaming nutjobs in the house in various states of undress, it wasn’t weird at […]

Silk Crepe de Chine Sleeveless Blouse

Have you made your Marfy yet? Thanks to Leisa Stanton of A Challenging Sew, I had no more excuses to avoid the chic Italian patterns without instructions. Not only are three patterns available for free downloads on the Marfy website, but Leisa is providing sew-a-longs for the patterns on her blog. How do you like it? The pattern is Marfy 1913, and after two muslins I was ready to cut my designer silk crepe de chine from Mood Fabrics. When the silk arrived in July, I was tempted to make my 5th sleeveless ruffled top. “No! No! No!” exclaimed the […]

Dotted Silk Crepe de Chine Blouse

I’m in love with silk blouses. Seriously. I wish I had a closet full. The only other one currently in my wardrobe is constantly on repeat. When I saw this beautiful ivory and black embroidered dotted crepe de chine from Marc Jacobs at MoodFabrics.com, I knew just what I’d make with it. I picked Vogue 1323, a Rachel Comey design. I love this pattern so much for the interesting neckline and and front pockets. Any extra volume I can add to the front of my tops is a welcome addition for this small-busted gal. I also wanted to try my hand […]

Designer Silk Crepe de Chine Long-Sleeve Top

I think I might be the last Mood Sewing Network blogger to make a garment out of Mood’s great Thakoon designer fabrics. Seriously. But, I’d seen a photo of how the designer used this fabric, and I couldn’t get his top out of my mind. That blue solid border wanted to be at the top of a long sleeve top, so of course I had to wait for some cooler weather to use it. This Thakoon designer fabric is a silk crepe de chine from Mood Fabrics, and it has a neat border of the tie-dye print morphing into a […]

Silk to the Max!

Do you ever spot a fabric that you want desperately, but don’t really know what to do with?  I usually try not to buy fabric if I can’t come up with a specific plan for it as I don’t really have the space to store it, so I said no to this amazing silk crepe de chine TWICE.  Finally, on a third visit to Mood Fabrics NYC, I had a vision of myself wearing it from head to toe and snatched it up to make a maxi dress! Editor’s note: Take a look at all the silk crepe de chines […]

Silk Crepe de Chine Maxi

I can’t even tell y’all how thrilled I am to be in cahoots with who we all know are my favorite MSN ladies, Oona and Sonja. Truth, they originally planned this as a duo, in which I walked straight into that party and invited myself to be the third wheel. I can’t help it; I love being part of a Mood Fabrics sandwich. Especially when it involves Thakoon Crepe de Chine. I mean, COME ON. So, as we all know at this point – this is the Anna dress, the newest offering from By Hand London. For mine, I decided […]
