Everyday Sparkles

Scraps. We all have them – those pieces that are too big to throw away but not big enough to do much with. I keep thinking I’ll use some of mine to make something for my daughter. She’s tiny and her clothing doesn’t require much yardage. I never do, though, and they just keep piling up. However, these days it’s perfectly acceptable to use several different textiles in one garment. I had a rather sizable piece of sequin fabric left over from this skirt and I decided to make it into a sweatshirt. I ordered one yard of Mood fabric’s […]

Sequined Statement Skirt

I have wanted a sequin skirt for a few years now. This fabric was purchased months ago but has just been sitting there staring at me because I was procrastinating. Sewing with sequins is always extremely messy and time consuming. I finally decided it would be handy to have for New Year’s Eve so I stitched it up. Surprise! Because I chose a fabric with super tiny sequins, they didn’t need to be removed for the seams or darts, and I had no messy piles of them to clean up. I used Mood fabric’s baby sequins on mesh, which they […]

Green Embroidered Wool Skirt

I found this interesting wool on Mood Fabrics’ website by searching the word “sequins”. Wool, sequins, embroidery, and flowers in yellow? That’s definitely my kind of fabric. I knew it was wide with a sequined border on both edges, so I only got a yard thinking I would make some sort of skirt. Making my TNT straight skirt seemed too boring, so I went looking for a pattern where I could use the sequined border in a more interesting manner. Enter this OOP Tracy Reese pattern, Vogue 1092. I always gravitate to unusual designs and absolutely loved the way this […]

Holiday Glam with Black & Silver Baby Sequins Dress

‘Tis the season to be sparkling!  What’s the holiday season with sparkle and shine?  I’ll tell you:  dull!  Don’t be dull, add some sequins to your holiday (and beyond) wardrobe. My latest addition was inspired by this gorgeous black and silver abstract baby sequins fabric from Mood Fabrics. When I fell head over heels in love with this fabric, I knew I needed a simple design that would let this fabric shine (pun intended) and let it be the star. I needed a design that has a limited amount of seams, darts, pleats, pockets and set-in sleeves.  This dress is […]

Italian Brocade Holiday Top

Every year it happens—blink and the holidays are upon us. It’s Thanksgiving week  and the official start of the holiday season. I purchased this Italian “Sequin” Teal and Silver Brocade in September with plans for a holiday top. I fell in love with the photograph and then with description, “If you love sequin fabric but shudder at the thought of sewing with it, then this is the brocade for you. From Italy, this poly fabric features a sequin design of teal and metallic gunmetal. It’s lightweight with a crisp drape, and would sew up perfectly as dresses, tops, jackets and so […]

Sequin T-Shirt

I never make t-shirts. Never. My mind is always thinking they are too simple to make. I like complexity and challenge. I’ll just buy them instead, I tell myself. Except, I am finding good quality t-shirts harder and harder to find. These days they all seem to be made from extremely thin material that pills after several washes. So, I’ve made my very first t-shirt: The body is made from a sequined wave cotton jersey from Mood fabrics. I ordered a swatch of it several months ago and fell in love. The sequins are sewn on with nylon thread on […]

A Sequin Bodice Dress

Editor’s note: This month we are pleased to welcome Haylee, a college student from Utah, as our newest Mood Sewing Network blogger. She writes a blog called Threaded. She isn’t participating in the lace challenge but check out these chic lace skirts she and her mom made for the bridesmaids to wear at her brother’s wedding (lace from Mood!). Welcome, Haylee! This month I decided to re-make the Shimmer Down dress from Tobi. I fell in love with this dress when I saw it but I’m a more conservative dresser so the mini length wasn’t going to work. I […]

Sequin Gown

I started the New Year generous in spirit by making a dress for my daughter. It’s been over 15 years since I have heard “Will you make me a dress, Mom? ” and she wasn’t referring to a Children’s Corner or Martha Pullen pattern anymore. Mimi wanted a formal dress. Not only did I make a dress for Mimi, but I made a dress for Mimi with my Mood Fabrics allowance. Bought at Mood NYC: champagne gold sequin fabric and matching china silk for lining. Due to the holiday season we did not decide on the exact pattern until the […]
