Valentino Inspired Dress with Black/Malaga Floral Roses Jacquard

Plain and simple:  there is nothing like a beautiful piece of fabric.  Just the mere fact that it is gorgeous makes you imagine how proud you feel to wear something made of it. This is the case with Mood’s Black Malaga Floral Roses Jacquard and Eggplant Polyester Lining.  The pairing of these two fabrics was a winning combination for my latest dress.   This jacquard is rich and luxurious, the pattern is intricately woven with a glossy under tone.  It has a smooth hand, unlike most brocades, but just as radiant.  The lining is perfect for [...]

Peplum Faille Jacket – Burda 7495

I debated posting this peplum faille jacket because I didn’t get a smooth sleeve cap. But after looking through the many projects that I didn’t post or review this year (2015), I decided that this jacket was note worthy. Not every project is perfect, and it’s always good to share challenges with garment construction. Black polyester faille was ideal for my Burda 7495 peplum jacket. Unfortunately, it is sold out/no longer carried at Mood. But there are several other faille fabrics currently available.  I have my eye on the black and white poke-a-dot on the first page. Faille [...]

Navy Reptile Print Brocade

Spring has sprung in Chi-town! I’m so glad the sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom. I cannot believe an entire month has past since I last blogged. I’m happy to be back. For spring, you would think that I would sew brighter colors to welcome the new season. But I couldn’t resist this beautiful navy reptile print brocade. This fabric is lightweight and falls gracefully around the body. It is perfect for the dress I planned to make for my daughter. I purchased the fabric last fall; it’s no longer available but Mood has a nice [...]

Polka Dot Fancypants

Dontcha just love it when you spend months looking for a specific dream fabric, then give up your search in angst, only to discover exactly what you’re looking for when you really truly aren’t looking? I mean, gah, finding good fabric can be just as difficult as finding a suitable romantic partner. Although the fabric search is usually a bit more fun When I originally got my hands on this “Peter & The Wolf Pants” pattern by Papercut Patterns, I immediately wanted to make them up in something polka-dotty. Problem is, this particular pattern calls for fabric with a bit [...]

Two More Tops Before Summer Fades

Summer is winding down and my thoughts are turning toward fall sewing.  I am not ready to give up summer all together, after all it is still 90+ degrees here in Missouri, but I am ready for sewing something different. I spotted this fabric right when it was added—Mood Fabrics’ Italian Teal and Black Lacy Brocade—and I had to have it. It is so gorgeous and my thoughts were a simple Grainline Scout T-shirt, that way the fabric does all the talking. Another plus was the fabric description from Mood’s site, “Has a soft hand and graceful drape, almost like [...]
