Graphic Print Tunic

Isn’t it fun when a fabric just draws you in?  That is exactly what happened with Mood Fabrics’ Indigo Peacock-Inspired Rayon Woven.  I knew I needed to make something from this fabric and a tunic was the garment I started to envision.  I went with Vogue 9151 and started looking for an good coordinating fabric.  Mixing prints is so much fun, I searched Mood Fabrics for a good match.  Sometimes online it is hard to get a good color  match for fabric as colors look different on the computer screen versus in real life!   I decided to look for […]

Peplum Faille Jacket – Burda 7495

I debated posting this peplum faille jacket because I didn’t get a smooth sleeve cap. But after looking through the many projects that I didn’t post or review this year (2015), I decided that this jacket was note worthy. Not every project is perfect, and it’s always good to share challenges with garment construction. Black polyester faille was ideal for my Burda 7495 peplum jacket. Unfortunately, it is sold out/no longer carried at Mood. But there are several other faille fabrics currently available.  I have my eye on the black and white poke-a-dot on the first page. Faille […]

Nautical Blue Stretch Rayon Ponte Knit is Perfect in Winter – Vogue 8780

You might think why buy ponte knit from a online fabric store like Mood.  All fabric stores sell it.  Well, I can give you one good reason why Mood is the perfect source to purchase your ponte:  outstanding quality.  This stretch rayon ponte knit is absolutely beautiful.  It has a smooth, soft hand; easy to sew; and the color is vibrant and rich.  It’s the perfect textile to make comfortable, but stylish dresses, pants, tops and jackets. This is one of my last two Mood projects of 2015.  I had hoped to publish these pieces sooner, but the Chicago weather […]

Chunky Sweater Cardigan

I hate knitting. I admire those of you with the patience to do it, but, as Ruggy often reminds me, I have zero patience. INDEED, SIR! When I picked up the bamboo needles years ago, most of my projects were made for Ruggy! I might not sew for my man, but oh, the knitted man-wear of years past…the hats! The scarves! One, done quite questionably up in white cashmere, as requested! (Don’t ask.) And the icing on the cake, a turtleneck sweater, sized to fit the state of Texas! SO MUCH PATIENCE!! SO LITTLE PAYOFF!!! Well, unlike those long lost, […]

Warm Winter Whites!

‘Twas five days before Christmas and all through the yard the creatures were glowing and waving at cars. Greetings, Dear Readers! I’m not sure when I’ve had so much fun sewing. Dreaming of a white sweater set, I ordered this Italian Cream Wavy Blended Wool Knit from Mood Fabrics. It is a very stable knit and slightly heavier than what I was expecting, but when it arrived I knew it would be compatible with the furry trim in my stash. Mood also has quite the selection of faux fur trims here. My pattern is McCall’s 6844, View B , an easy and […]

Polka Dot Jacquard Jacket

In my last blog post, I announced a hefty challenge I am embracing for my upcoming birthday which rolls around in approximately 345 days. I plan to celebrate the new 40 with 40 new garments made by moi, and I’m beginning the challenge by combating the drab clothes that dominate my winter wardrobe. Hello color and Happy Holidays!   Mood Fabric’s Green on Black Polka Dotted Polyester Jacquard caught my eye online and nearly blinded me when I opened the package – but what an antidote for winter drab! (more colors here) I paired the fabric with Butterick 6103. Whether it […]

A White Pintuck Tunic

I just love a white blouse and feel like it is a basic item needed for any closet but one was not found in my closet.  Time to take care of that situation and make a white blouse.  I wanted a twist on a wardrobe basic, a blouse with some visual interest.    First, I needed to find the right fabric for my blouse and went with Mood Fabrics’ White Pinpoint Cotton Shirting.  The description states a good staple fabric with a bit of crispness.     Now let’s talk pattern, I went with Butterick 6208,  a loose fitting pullover […]

Men’s Black Denim Zippered Jacket

Maybe it’s because my hair is graying, but I’m finding black denim much more flattering to me than blue denim these days. I’d recently purchased two and a half yards of stiff black 100% cotton denim at Mood Fabrics in New York City and I knew it would be perfect for a not-quite-winter shell-type jacket I could wear over sweaters. (This black Ralph Lauren denim would be perfect.)  I much prefer layers to a single cold-weather garment: with global warming, you never know what the temperature will be. If I told you my jacket was based on a 1930’s men’s […]

A Silk Crepe De Chine Topper

HIYA. How do you like my whatchamacallit? It was meant to be a button down dress…. But then I felt so Bohemian when fitting to mark for buttons, I decided to cinch the waist in a bit more and leave it as a…topper? Sleeveless kimono? Maxi vest? MAXI VEST. LET’S GO WITH MAXI VEST. Let’s also say, that much like my self imposed ban on jersey, imma haveta turn my back on the Sui for awhile. Yep, you guessed it, this is MORE Anna Sui, and it marks the fifth MSN project in which I’ve used that designer’s sumptuous textiles. […]
