My Kinda Neutral!

ANIMAL PRINT. YUM. I could wear it everywhere! And I mean, head to toe everywhere ūüėú Animal print is a big neutral for me. I like to pair it with everything– stripes! Flowers! Geometrics! Denim! Seriously, what doesn’t it go with? The only pairing I hadn’t tried with this self-drafted two piece ponte set was…more animal print. I honestly don’t know what took me so long. This wild little shirt is Simplicity 8340, modified to a more cropped and tie-able length. She doesn’t have buttons yet, although she does have perfect buttonholes-in-waiting. They’ve yet to be sliced open, as I’ve […]

Morgan Jeans – Off-white Denim

Spring is coming, at least that is what the calendar says, the weather not so much.¬† I am going to be ready with a new pair of white jeans, this time in Mood Fabrics’ Off-White Stretch Denim – 10 oz and this fabric worked perfectly for the Morgan Jeans from Closet Case Patterns.¬† I have made the Ginger Jeans several times and wanted something a bit more relaxed, boyfriend fit. This denim really looks white even though the description says off-white and the stretch is very slight, which is good for the pattern.¬† The Morgan pattern states non-stretch denim. […]

Oscar de la Renta Stretch Canvas Shirtdress

I had a difficult time believing this whimsical Oscar de la Renta print is canvas, but now, not only am I believer – I’m a canvas convert. Mood Fabrics offers quite the collection of canvas for both home decorating and apparel sewing. I knew I’d like any fabric designed by Oscar de la Renta, but I was surprised by its light weight and smooth texture. While this stretch canvas would work well with several garments, including jeans and jackets, I chose McCall’s 6520, a shirtdress pattern I’d sewn once before. I selected View D. Views C & D are designed […]

Knits for the Gold

Have you been watching the Olympics?¬† I have a bit and that got me thinking, knit fabrics are a bit like the gold in the sewing world, or at least to me. This transition period in fashion, moving from winter to spring, is always hard for me.¬† I am not ready to stop sewing winter garments and don’t know for sure what I want to sew for spring.¬† So for my first garment for this post, I went with a new release pattern, True Bias Nikko Dress and used this Mood Fabrics’ waffle knit.¬† I love this fabric and […]

Warm Orchid Medallions

For someone who prefers warm weather to cold weather on any given day, I’m loving winter sewing this month! One look at Mood Fabric’s¬†ultra soft black wool knit with orchid pink medallions had me wishing for freezing temperatures ?¬†This lovely¬†medium weight knit features a movable drape and is perfect for many designs. I chose the Blackwood Cardigan pattern by Helen’s Closet. This pattern is very well designed with¬†minimal excess fabric in the front and a close fit around the neck and shoulders. Its fitted shape and extra long sleeves make it perfect for wearing under jackets and vests. Having sewn […]

Cotton & Linen slubbed Shacket

I’m tempted to keep this a wordless post, so you can guess which one of us MNS’ers stitched this…because I certainly wouldn’t guess ME. In fact, I agonized over this fabric choice for about 45 minutes, on Mood NY’s magical top floor. Eric and Kway both assured me this was a beautiful fabric. I was sure they were right, but I absolutely could not convince my technicolor brain. In the end I had to take their word for it! Luckily, they were right, and it’s not for me anyway! So really what I had to do was remind myself, repeatedly, […]

Tweed Moto Jacket

So I saw this fabulous Moto Jacket Pattern,¬† McCall’s 7694 and knew I had to make it, does that ever happen to you?¬† Pattern in hand I headed to Mood Fabrics and started my search.¬† Wool tweed is what I had in my head to make this jacket and I found, Bordeaux and White Speckled Wool¬† Tweed, which is almost sold out so act quickly.¬† If this is not your colorway, don’t worry, Mood Fabrics has a great selection of wool tweeds.¬† While at Mood’s site, I went searching for a separating¬† zipper and found the perfect tan color.¬† […]

Three Cozy Sweaters

Okay, it is cold here, which really is normal for the end of December and all I want to wear is warm and cozy.¬† This Mood Fabrics’ Italian Gray French Terry is perfect, it looks just like a chunky sweater knit but it is really a comfy sweatshirt! In November on Instagram I started seeing posts about One Week One Pattern and that interested me.¬† What is One Week One Pattern?¬† One Week, One Pattern is a photo challenge to try and get as many sewists as possible making the most out of their sewing patterns, by wearing garments […]
