Warm Orchid Medallions

For someone who prefers warm weather to cold weather on any given day, I’m loving winter sewing this month! One look at Mood Fabric’s¬†ultra soft black wool knit with orchid pink medallions had me wishing for freezing temperatures ūüėȬ†This lovely¬†medium weight knit features a movable drape and is perfect for many designs. I chose the Blackwood Cardigan pattern by Helen’s Closet. This pattern is very well designed with¬†minimal excess fabric in the front and a close fit around the neck and shoulders. Its fitted shape and extra long sleeves make it perfect for wearing under jackets and vests. Having sewn […]

Cotton & Linen slubbed Shacket

I’m tempted to keep this a wordless post, so you can guess which one of us MNS’ers stitched this…because I certainly wouldn’t guess ME. In fact, I agonized over this fabric choice for about 45 minutes, on Mood NY’s magical top floor. Eric and Kway both assured me this was a beautiful fabric. I was sure they were right, but I absolutely could not convince my technicolor brain. In the end I had to take their word for it! Luckily, they were right, and it’s not for me anyway! So really what I had to do was remind myself, repeatedly, […]

Tweed Moto Jacket

So I saw this fabulous Moto Jacket Pattern,¬† McCall’s 7694 and knew I had to make it, does that ever happen to you?¬† Pattern in hand I headed to Mood Fabrics and started my search.¬† Wool tweed is what I had in my head to make this jacket and I found, Bordeaux and White Speckled Wool¬† Tweed, which is almost sold out so act quickly.¬† If this is not your colorway, don’t worry, Mood Fabrics has a great selection of wool tweeds.¬† While at Mood’s site, I went searching for a separating¬† zipper and found the perfect tan color.¬† […]

Three Cozy Sweaters

Okay, it is cold here, which really is normal for the end of December and all I want to wear is warm and cozy.¬† This Mood Fabrics’ Italian Gray French Terry is perfect, it looks just like a chunky sweater knit but it is really a comfy sweatshirt! In November on Instagram I started seeing posts about One Week One Pattern and that interested me.¬† What is One Week One Pattern?¬† One Week, One Pattern is a photo challenge to try and get as many sewists as possible making the most out of their sewing patterns, by wearing garments […]

Merry & Bright!

If you’re looking for a reason to be Merry & Bright this season, look no further than Mood Fabrics! ¬†Sequins galore¬†abound this season on the store’s website, and I fell right in line upon seeing the¬†glittering silver baby sequined fabric. To keep the focus on the fabric, I kept it simple with a shift dress using ¬†New Look 6524 as my base pattern. Following Maria Denmark’s tutorial I removed the bust dart for a clean front bodice. The sequins are sewn on mesh and the fabric tends to s t r e t c h easily. Staystiching the shoulders, armscye […]

Blue Jacquard Vest

The temperatures here have been so mild, which is nothing to complain about at all.¬† The above normal temperatures call for a garment perfect for the nice weather.¬† A new vest using Simplicity 1499¬† and the perfect match, Mood Fabrics’ Italian Cobalt Blue Paisley Jacquard.¬† This knit is just a bit heavier and full of texture.¬† ¬†These two fabric features made it a good choice for my vest.     I used some black ponte in my stash to trim my vest but Mood Fabrics has several black pontes.¬† ¬†One thing with the pattern (yes, made it before) the armholes […]

Basic Black!

While many patterns were hacked to create this dress, I can happily state that every inch of its fabric is from Mood. ūüôā It was time for a new black winter dress; an all purpose dress to wear whenever and wherever. My inspiration came from the current Oscar de la Renta Ready to Wear collection. I love the way this dress skims the body, but I had no pattern that included all of its features. After using bits and pieces from several patterns, I’m calling this¬†The McVoguerick Tunicbiblicity dress. While it was an absolute pain to put this dress together, […]

An (Unplanned)Trio of Denim Kalles

You can probably guess this pattern by sight, though you’re likely confused as to why I’m wearing it IN A SOLID. I’ve got my reasons! Reason #1: My gals Lauren¬†&¬†Sallie both rocked this look in denim hues of linen & chambray, and I could not get their collective loveliness out of my brain. Reason #2: I decided to be sensible. (I KNOW.) I had every intention of making this up in a painterly floral¬†Marchesa silk gazar! But I wanted a chance to play with the lines before cutting into Marchesa. And, this stiff cotton, snagged at Mood NY, is not […]

Take One – Two Sides, Please

Fall time which means I can make a new coat, I love making coats!¬† I was looking through Mood’s site and found this incredible fabric.¬† It is Mood Fabrics’ Tan and Gray Printed Cotton Twill with Navy Reverse Face¬† and it is such great fabric, it deserves a long name. This fabric intrigued me right away and while I was waiting for it arrive, I started dreaming of what to sew.¬† I decided a statement coat, which seems to be trendy in RTW, a bit like this one.¬† After I have an idea, it is time for a pattern, […]
