Knit Fabric Basics

Sometimes I just need some basics, fun basics in knit.  I bought these beautiful fabrics from Mood Fabrics in August  and went to planning for fall.  First up is Mood Fabric’s Rust Stretch Knit Pique and let me tell you this fabric is so luxurious and I want all the colors.  How many colors?  There is nine!  The next fabric is Mood Fabrics’ Rust and Navy Striped Rib Knit  and as I hoped when ordering these two fabrics look so good together.   Now time to plan and a I went with New Look 6530 for the top, it was […]

Playing Favorites

My favorite food is pizza.  I try to eat it once a week. I don’t even think of denying myself this pleasure. So when I questioned myself on choosing to work with another Supreme Wax fabric, I gave myself this theory: PIZZA IS GOOD. WAX PRINT IS GOOD. YOU SHOULD THEREFORE HAVE BOTH WHENEVER YOU WANT THEM. That’s solid theorizing. With 6 yards of fabric in a cut, and summer sewing in full force, I went for maxi proportions. Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity 1802 (out of print, I think), was the object of my desire. Or the vehicle for? I […]

Embroidered Cotton Shirting Tunic

I’ve never been able to adopt the ‘keep it simple‘ philosophy, but I do believe in the ‘one step at a time‘ approach to life. In sewing that means sticking to the familiar while learning the new. While I try to grasp the details of machine embroidery I’m sewing with patterns and fabrics that leave no surprises. Mood Fabrics offers a fabulous collection of cotton shirtings, and what better backdrop for cherry red than a black and white check! I knew this smooth shirting fabric with a soft drape would be perfect for a tunic and kept my fingers crossed that it would […]

Chambray Cold Shoulder Top

What can I say about the cold shoulder look?  Maybe I am totally in love with it and keep making top after top!  I had purchased Mood Fabrics’ Steven  Alan Denim Blue  Cotton Chambray in March with the intentions of a Scout Tee and maybe an Archer but plans change!  I am sorry to say this particular chambray is sold out but no worries, Mood Fabrics’ has a great selection of Chambray, in prints and solids in several colorways.     I used McCall’s 7510 in View B, which I thought might be a good look for early fall.  My […]

Eloise at the Plaza Dress

With an unapologetic youthfulness straight out of an “Eloise at the Plaza” book, add this adorable Pink and Blue Printed Stretch Cotton Sateen to your collection! Hand drawn flowers, swirled vines and hearts move in a kaleidoscopic fashion over a light blue background. A crisp hand is paired with a stiff drape for perfectly tailored pieces. Its stretch through the weft ensures the perfect fit for bodycon pieces as well! Make crop tops, shorts and shift dresses for an adorable spring/summer look. Who can resist a description like this?? I ordered the fabric with pants in mind since cotton sateen […]

Viscose For Summer Heat!

This is one of those fabrics that has to be experienced in real life, the lens doesn’t do it justice! To come close to the true colors in this Italian viscose jersey, I had to bump up the saturation. And now I have “Pump Up the Volume” in my head. My apologies if you do, too. Let me change that ear worm with the story of this garment’s first outing! Rob & I snapped these photos in the golden hour, on our way to Lincoln Center’s opening night of #LCOutOfDoors. It’s a wonderful, free program offered every summer, with nights […]

Gingham Culottes for the Summer Ends

Pinterest was the inspiration for these gingham culottes and I am so happy I took a look for an idea.  I really love the look of these and will be so fun for the dog days of summer.  Let me restate that as the dog days of summer mean the hot, sultry days of summer and as cute as these culottes are, the are not cool.  So my gingham culottes are perfect for the air conditioning while the hot summer is on the outside! I love this Theory Black and White Gingham Stretch Cotton Twill but I am […]

Striped Jersey Dress

Summer is a busy time for me and I still want to sew or should I say I need to sew.  Sewing is a passion and when I cannot get to my sewing room, I get a little grumpy!  Anyone else like that?  That being said I have a conflict in the summer besides time.  It is the great outdoors, well, really just my yard.  I love to work in my flowers and be in the pool.  To keep from being grumpy from lack of sewing, my solution is faster projects and fabulous fabrics.  I fell in love with this […]

Wide-Leg Seersucker Pants

I didn’t know I wanted a pair of wide-leg beach pants until the Blue and White Bengal Cotton Seersucker arrived from Mood Fabrics. Seriously, I was planning a dress with a ruffle collar, but a new vision appeared once I opened the package. This is no pinstripe seersucker, but a lovely light and airy fabric featuring 1/4″ stripes.  It is slightly puckered with a wonderful drape and is suitable for several garments. As one who almost always prefers a slim silhouette, I was ready for something different and pulled an old Vogue pattern from my stash. (The pattern is out of […]
