Wool + Lace Black and White Dress

I’ve just finished a classy wool dress for fall/winter that I’m in love with! The idea for this garment has been floating around my brain for years and I’m just so pleased to see it turn out exactly how I imagined. I knew I wanted to play around with lace motifs and needed a lace that I could cut into that wouldn’t fray. The one I used is from Mood fabrics and is all sold out but here is a black 3D guipure lace that’s similar. The white is an ivory wool twill also from Mood fabrics and also all sold out. […]

Maroon Double Cloth Lace – Simplicity 1314

My eyes light up with joy when I see something beautiful.  And that was exactly what happened when I saw this Maroon Double Cloth with Lace from Mood.  At first, I imagined a high-waist pencil skirt.  But when the pretty cloth arrived to my surprise the yardage was more than I requested.  It must have been the last on the roll, because it included this tag.  No matter the circumstance, I was too happy to get a little more and couldn’t let it go to waste.  So I decided to make Simplicity 1314 again.   There is nothing wrong […]

Black & White Lace Easter Dress

I got started on my Easter dress early this year so I wouldn’t run out of time like I usually do. I fell in love with this Pamella Roland designer Vogue pattern the minute I laid eyes on it. I had to have THE EXACT SAME DRESS as the example on the envelope. But, you know, I have a lot of projects swimming around in my head at any given time, and I was willing to wait for just the right fabric to come along. When Mood Fabrics posted this Theory black cotton guipure lace a while back, I shouted […]

Laced Up in Metallic Paradise Pink Paisley Lace

That title is a tongue twister.  Say it three times fast.  Lol.  This lace is fused on a nylon textile that is smooth and opaque.  It is similar the Coral Scallop Edged Re-Emboidered Lace that is current available at Mood.  No need for me to talk about how gorgeous it is.  You can see for yourself.  It is a great fabric to use for the special occasion outfit that needs to be made in a hurry. This project was supposed to be a two-day project at most, once I worked through the fit issues of the pattern.  It all started […]

DVF Lace, Part II

As promised, I’m back with the remainder of the DVF Cotton Lace project. Some people are born to sew couture. It relaxes them they say…… I get that, but before undertaking a couture garment, I always take a deep breath and try to prepare myself for the time commitment couture sewing requires. To date, I have underestimated the time commitment of every project. But now it’s time to celebrate! As mentioned in my last Mood Sewing Network post, I ordered the lilac DVF cotton lace from Mood Fabrics last Spring, envisioning a two-piece dress for my daughter’s Bridesmaids’ luncheon. The dress missed […]

DVF Cotton Lace Skirt

Just a skirt?…… Not to me! When the DVF floral bordered cotton lace arrived on my doorstep last Spring from Mood Fabrics, I knew it deserved the royal treatment, but I didn’t expect this special fabric to be in queue for nearly a year. Greetings from Scottsdale, Arizona, the new hometown of my daughter and son-in-law.  It’s only 2,019 miles away from South Carolina. 😉 I once heard Susan Khalje say that she could keep someone busy for an entire week sewing a pencil skirt. Now, I know what she means, for I spent one week making my couture pencil […]

White Lace Pencil Skirt

I have wanted a white lace skirt for several years now. They were all over fashion blogger’s websites awhile back and I kept pinning them to my “sewing inspiration” Pintrest board. After swatching several white laces I finally settled on this beautiful white re-embroidered lace from Mood Fabrics. It had the textural qualities I was looking for as well as the large scalloped edges. For the underlining and lining I used a soft taupe silk crepe de chine, also from Mood. The pattern is my TNT straight skirt pattern, McCall’s 3830, which I have made numerous times. In order to […]

Meshed with Anna Sui’s Multicolored Stretch Lace

At first sight, I ordered Anna Sui’s Black Multicolored Stripe Lace. It was too sheer to not line it with some type of mesh. So I select the perfect black mesh to marry with the lace. The combination was great. Of course the lace has texture and has a soft embroidered feel to it and the mesh is smooth and silky. I love working with both fabrics. A little bit of caution though with the mesh. The selvage does not lies flat on the table. So I nipped along the selvage to gain control over it for laying and cutting […]

A Lacy Knockout Dress for Valentine’s Day

As much as I’m not really one for ~celebrating~ Valentine’s Day (I’ll take the flowers and the steak dinner, though, thanks!), I *love* the excuse it gives me to make a new dress specially for going out. Last year I wore red lace, this year I decided to go with… lace again. Except this time, I thought I’d ramp up the knockout factor with some black lace and a form-fitting shape. I’m really loving the combination of emerald green paired with black lace, so as soon I saw this Anna Sui black stretch lace on Mood Fabric’s website, I knew I […]
