Jersey Twist Dress

Hi friends! Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! First things first, that little bit of belly you see above is indeed a baby bump. The little one is due in August, which means I’m about half way through this pregnancy. My husband and I are in a race to see which will come first – the new baby or the finished kitchen. We’re definitely rooting for the kitchen. And, to help hedge our bets, our renovation pace has quickened in the last few months. Our new backdoor is ready, our windows have been ordered, and we’ll be starting the electrical work next week. But, keep […]

Graphic Print Tunic

Isn’t it fun when a fabric just draws you in?  That is exactly what happened with Mood Fabrics’ Indigo Peacock-Inspired Rayon Woven.  I knew I needed to make something from this fabric and a tunic was the garment I started to envision.  I went with Vogue 9151 and started looking for an good coordinating fabric.  Mixing prints is so much fun, I searched Mood Fabrics for a good match.  Sometimes online it is hard to get a good color  match for fabric as colors look different on the computer screen versus in real life!   I decided to look for […]

Geometric Column Dress

Dresses are one of those things that are so fun to make and so easy to wear.  One stop in the closet, grab a dress and off you go, right?  I love seeing all the dresses people make in a variety of fabric.  With that being said, my casual and work lifestyle isn’t one that requires many dresses, so I don’t make them often.   Now there is an exception, this summer I have needed dresses for several weddings, evenings out and some work dinners.  My wardrobe was in a sad state for dresses and I have been busy […]

Ikat Jersey Faux-Wrap dress

Hello! And surprise! I have been missing for a few months because pregnancy fatigue really got to me. Being pregnant at 36 and caring for 3 other kiddos at the same time is tiring. Thank goodness we are having a pretty mild summer so far with lots of rain. It won’t last, I’m sure, but I’m enjoying the cooler temps while I can. I haven’t been doing a whole heck of a lot of sewing – just haven’t had any mojo to work with. In the evenings all I want to do is vegetate in front of the television or […]

Two Jersey Knit Casual Tops

I purchased this beautiful Mood Fabrics poly floral jersey at the first of September: I bought 2 yards with the intention of one knit top. Well, I pulled out the Renfrew top and Jalie 2921 trying to decide which one to make. Sometimes I feel like that is the hardest decision in sewing—what pattern to use? I posted my dilemma on Instagram and Carolyn was the only one to voice an opinion, which was the Jalie. Well, I cut out the Renfrew first but no worries, Carolyn, I had enough fabric to make the Jalie, too. My choice of the Renfrew, was one […]

A Mountain Of Jersey

There are clothes that women love on women, there are clothes that men love on women, and never the twain shall meet. Well, the fairer sex can usually go both ways, but the harder sex, if you will forgive the pun, can’t get behind certain styles: High waisted jeans. Bubble skirts.  Gathered waists. Drop crotch. So obviously, being away from Ruggy, I am consoling myself by making the things he will undoubtedly dislike, and reaping the praise of the female company I’m keeping at work. Is this to spite him? No! Never! Look, if my man’s not here to compliment […]

Jersey Knit Maxi Dress

So what does a 5’9″ girl do when she wants a maxi dress and she cannot find one in a store long enough? In my house, you ask Mom to make one. Meredith’s request was for a simple maxi dress out of some fabulous fabric.  I sent her right to Mood Fabrics and she created a Mood board just for her, appropriately named Meredith Maxi Dress. The Mood board is such a convenient way to gather virtual swatches for a pattern, garment type or fabric type.  Once Meredith had thoroughly searched the Mood site, she decided on Mood Fabrics’ jersey knit, which reminds me of […]

Mustard-Yellow Poplin Jacket

Lately, I have been seeing a certain color combination of navy and mustard in fashion and I have been wanting to introduce it into my wardrobe.  I found this Donna Karan mustard poplin add this stripe jersey from Mood Fabrics and now I have the perfect combination for new spring garments. At first, I was thinking a skirt and top, like this picture from my pins, but I really don’t wear skirts that much and  I wanted garments that I will wear quite often.  A jacket for spring is always a welcome addition to the wardrobe and I selected BWOF  6/2006 #104 […]

A Wintry Knit Bloom

On the day after Christmas, in the land of Ruggy’s birth, it snowed.  And snowed, and snowed.  So naturally I jumped into my second version of By Hand London’s Elisalex Dress and ran outside to play. It seemed the perfect backdrop for Betsey Johnson’s technicolor print.  As usual I was in the jersey aisle at Mood, and I fell in love and snagged a yard of this beauty.  The weight is perfection, the colors are edible.  My intention was to make more leggings.  However, when I pulled out my ginghers, the bright happy flowers screamed OONA!  Are you really going […]
