Peplum Faille Jacket – Burda 7495

I debated posting this peplum faille jacket because I didn’t get a smooth sleeve cap. But after looking through the many projects that I didn’t post or review this year (2015), I decided that this jacket was note worthy. Not every project is perfect, and it’s always good to share challenges with garment construction. Black polyester faille was ideal for my Burda 7495 peplum jacket. Unfortunately, it is sold out/no longer carried at Mood. But there are several other faille fabrics currently available.  I have my eye on the black and white poke-a-dot on the first page. Faille […]

Derek Lam Cotton Knit Jacket

The purchase of this gorgeous thick knit from Derek Lam for this month’s Mood Sewing Network project was a no brainer. Living in London my handmade wardrobe is constantly in need of snuggly, comfy garments suitable for layering and making them out of unique fabrics like this one means I still feel great wearing them. I picked this piece in Mood Fabrics LA back in September and whilst it was available online it’s now unfortunately sold out. However, hunting for it I did discovering this amazing striped French Terry from the same designer which has been immediately added to my […]

Italian Wool Pea Coat

What makes a great coat?  Well, I think many things but the first is great fabric and Mood Fabrics’ Italian Navy Wool Blended Coating is great fabric.  This fabric is luscious yardage that sews beautifully and worked its way into a gorgeous pea coat, Vogue 1467.  I knew when this pattern was released I wanted to make this coat in a deep, dark navy and this Italian Coating was perfect for the project.  The fabric is wool, nylon and cashmere, which is wonderful to the touch but also has loft and warmth. A sewalong was announced for this […]

Rag & Bone Blue Crepe Quart Jacket

I was really intrigued when I spotted this Rag & Bone Navy/Blue Cotton-Rayon Crepe in the new arrivals section of the Mood Fabrics website! It sounded so unusual being of a medium to heavy weight yet fluid. I’d been after something unique to make myself a biker style jacket after seeing Pauline Alice’s amazing short version of her Quart Coat so decided to take the plunge for this month’s Mood Sewing Network project and order myself enough of this to investigate. When it arrived it was kind of what I was imagining and kind of not…whatever it was it was […]

Tuxedo Jacket and Silk Top

Summer means bright and fun colors but in reality  you just can’t escape black and white and/or cream.  These two colors are classic and always show up in fashion, plus they just go with everything.   I wear the cream/white so much better than the black so I went with a cream heavy look with accents of black for these two garments.   Well, let’s back up a bit, it all started with the blouse, McCall’s 7094, something very similar to a RTW top I have and love.  The fabric suggested was easy, a crepe de chine  and I had […]

Little Plaid Jacket!

Hi, guys! I hope your week is off to a great start! One of my favorite things about sewing clothes is that you can find unique ways to make a style your own. For example, you can take the edgy, menswear-inspired moto jacket, but make it up in pastel lace, and you’ve created a unique look that really shows off your personal style! So, for this little jacket, I wanted to try the classic Chanel-inspired silhouette, but use a casual (and extremely washable!) fabric that screams “me”! I knew right away that I wanted to use a plaid flannel cotton […]

Little Pink Jacket!

The little pink jacket… it’s a wardrobe staple, right? Alright, maybe not, but it sure is fun! I’ve been a bit obsessed with coats lately, and while I have a few in my sewing queue for this fall and winter, I knew that the first one I wanted to make would be for my mom. She has a fun personality and doesn’t take her wardrobe too seriously, so I knew I could have some fun with fabric and style. She’s a very casual dresser, but she likes styles that are classic or slightly vintage, so I thought this cropped swing […]

Seafoam Green Linen Jacket

I know you all think all Lori can make is jackets, right?  Two of my three posts have been jackets for the Mood Sewing Network. Well, I am going to up the odds to three out of four.  I do have a thing for jackets, especially in the spring, when a light jacket is just what you need for the cool, crisp air.  This time I wanted a very versatile jacket, one you could wear with so many outfits.  I also wanted to use a good color for spring, something to freshen up my closet and existing garments, so I […]

Cotton Twill Surplus Jacket

This OOP Vogue 1762 – Yves Saint Laurent (that’s a designer label that makes me sit up and pay attention) from 1996.  It’s from the YSL 1995 Fall RTW Collection.  Why did Vogue Patterns stop providing offerings from YSL?!  Those collections are always amazing! YSL Fall 1995 Collection I don’t know if this pattern is quite old enough to be considered “vintage”, even if it is almost 20 years old.  But just as I said when I made my pattern, it’s about as much vintage as I can take without feeling all “costumey” or like I’m attending a theme party. […]
