Striped Linen Jacket

Talk about a fun fabric, this Mood Fabrics’ Italian Striped Linen is just that.  This is a double-faced fabric with rust and taupe stripes on one side and the other it is taupe-rust.  I fell in love with the awning stripe and had to have it.  I really wasn’t sure what I was going to make and then I decided a jacket with some shaping, no closures and some interesting details.   I went with Hot Patterns’ Metropolitan Bouvier Jacket and loved the cuffs, rounded collar and the half back belt.  This linen is soft and thin, even with […]

Striped Shirting

This project is brought to you by perseverance, progress and power through it! Or in other words, it is brought to you by the letter P. I was so excited to make McCall’s 7724 in view A. such a fun pattern with the cold shoulder look and neckline options. I went right to Mood Fabrics and started looking at shirting for this project. Stripes or plaids was the direction I was going and I went with Sea Pink Striped Cotton Shirting and White/Pink Striped Shirting. When the fabric arrived, they were perfect together, yea time to start on this project. […]

Morgan Jeans – Off-white Denim

Spring is coming, at least that is what the calendar says, the weather not so much.  I am going to be ready with a new pair of white jeans, this time in Mood Fabrics’ Off-White Stretch Denim – 10 oz and this fabric worked perfectly for the Morgan Jeans from Closet Case Patterns.  I have made the Ginger Jeans several times and wanted something a bit more relaxed, boyfriend fit. This denim really looks white even though the description says off-white and the stretch is very slight, which is good for the pattern.  The Morgan pattern states non-stretch denim. […]

Knits for the Gold

Have you been watching the Olympics?  I have a bit and that got me thinking, knit fabrics are a bit like the gold in the sewing world, or at least to me. This transition period in fashion, moving from winter to spring, is always hard for me.  I am not ready to stop sewing winter garments and don’t know for sure what I want to sew for spring.  So for my first garment for this post, I went with a new release pattern, True Bias Nikko Dress and used this Mood Fabrics’ waffle knit.  I love this fabric and […]

Tweed Moto Jacket

So I saw this fabulous Moto Jacket Pattern,  McCall’s 7694 and knew I had to make it, does that ever happen to you?  Pattern in hand I headed to Mood Fabrics and started my search.  Wool tweed is what I had in my head to make this jacket and I found, Bordeaux and White Speckled Wool  Tweed, which is almost sold out so act quickly.  If this is not your colorway, don’t worry, Mood Fabrics has a great selection of wool tweeds.  While at Mood’s site, I went searching for a separating  zipper and found the perfect tan color.  […]

Three Cozy Sweaters

Okay, it is cold here, which really is normal for the end of December and all I want to wear is warm and cozy.  This Mood Fabrics’ Italian Gray French Terry is perfect, it looks just like a chunky sweater knit but it is really a comfy sweatshirt! In November on Instagram I started seeing posts about One Week One Pattern and that interested me.  What is One Week One Pattern?  One Week, One Pattern is a photo challenge to try and get as many sewists as possible making the most out of their sewing patterns, by wearing garments […]

Blue Jacquard Vest

The temperatures here have been so mild, which is nothing to complain about at all.  The above normal temperatures call for a garment perfect for the nice weather.  A new vest using Simplicity 1499  and the perfect match, Mood Fabrics’ Italian Cobalt Blue Paisley Jacquard.  This knit is just a bit heavier and full of texture.   These two fabric features made it a good choice for my vest.     I used some black ponte in my stash to trim my vest but Mood Fabrics has several black pontes.   One thing with the pattern (yes, made it before) the armholes […]

Take One – Two Sides, Please

Fall time which means I can make a new coat, I love making coats!  I was looking through Mood’s site and found this incredible fabric.  It is Mood Fabrics’ Tan and Gray Printed Cotton Twill with Navy Reverse Face  and it is such great fabric, it deserves a long name. This fabric intrigued me right away and while I was waiting for it arrive, I started dreaming of what to sew.  I decided a statement coat, which seems to be trendy in RTW, a bit like this one.  After I have an idea, it is time for a pattern, […]

Knit Fabric Basics

Sometimes I just need some basics, fun basics in knit.  I bought these beautiful fabrics from Mood Fabrics in August  and went to planning for fall.  First up is Mood Fabric’s Rust Stretch Knit Pique and let me tell you this fabric is so luxurious and I want all the colors.  How many colors?  There is nine!  The next fabric is Mood Fabrics’ Rust and Navy Striped Rib Knit  and as I hoped when ordering these two fabrics look so good together.   Now time to plan and a I went with New Look 6530 for the top, it was […]
