Happy Halloween from a Darling Little Duck!

Happy day before Halloween everyone! It’s my daughter’s second Halloween, and I just had to make her another costume. While she was the cutest little black kitten last year and I’d happily have her be a cat every year (because cats and sewing go hand in hand!), I decided to make her into a darling little duck this year. Why a duck? Well, because she really likes ducks and all things water related right now. She figured out how to say “duh duh” pretty early on, but it wasn’t her way of saying Daddy – it was her way of saying duck. (She used […]

Pretty Poplin Pajamas!

Hi, guys! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and if you celebrated Canada Day or the 4th of July, that your weekends were extra festive! OK, while I have, overall, a really serviceable wardrobe that’s really starting to reflect my style, I have to admit that when it comes to the “unseen” items, the situation is dire. Cotton Poplin with Stretch!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! You survived another year, and I made a new dress to celebrate!   One of the things I look for when shopping online are fabrics that will work well together, and I had no doubts about these off-white and navy Celtic inspired stretch cotton poplins. from Mood Fabrics. Cotton poplin with the addition of spandex is a dream come true for casual Summer sewing! Crisp, lightweight and minimal wrinkling – what more can I want? Using my own pattern I sewed the bodice with the navy background poplin saving the reverse fabric for the collar, placket and […]

Men’s Cotton Poplin Button-up Shirt

I sometimes wonder what my go-to uniform would be if I were challenged to only wear one silhouette (one week one uniform, anyone?!).  It’s an idea I’m having fun exploring these days, though I haven’t come up with any easy answers so far.  Yet, when it comes to my husband, I know what his uniform would be – a blue button-up shirt and slacks.  And, thanks to this lovely chambray blue cotton poplin from Mood Fabrics and a bit of my sewing time, my husband has yet another blue shirt to add to his daily rotation. I’ve made this pattern, vintage Butterick 4712, several times now. […]

Summer Time Dress in Lime Cotton Poplin

Light weight cotton poplin is a great fabric for summer clothing.  In July, Chi-town is super hot and sticky. So it’s best to dress in something easy breezy and made of a breathable fiber. In my hunt to find great summer wearable fabrics, I found a slew of them at the Mood online fabric store.  There are at least ten yummy poplin type textiles that I’d love to have in my possession.  But for this post I want to direct your attention to this beautiful lime cotton poplin, perfect for comfortable summer dresses and camp shirts.  Love it.  […]
