Stretch Cotton Sateen

The most potent muse of all is our own inner child. ?

Introducing the Birdie Jacket……….. and why not? Designers love to name garments after special people and now it’s Birdie’s turn ?

Ready to ditch the winter drabs and put color back into my wardrobe I chose Mood Fabric’s Rasberry Rose stretch cotton sateen, perhaps the most colorful fabric on the Mood website!  This playful color not only reminds me of Spring, but also coordinates with many of my separates.

Keeping it bright, I lined the jacket with the same stretch sateen in Sugar Coral. I think this colorful duo is just what my Moroccan tunic was begging for.

Since I rarely sew jackets, I decided to sew the pattern straight up with no modifications other than fitting.IMG_0063

I really like the pattern, but if I sew the pattern again, I’ll make a few changes starting with replacing the button closure.IMG_0033 2Frankly, I prefer to wear it open so I can play with Birdie without restriction.

Open or closed my fabric choice is a winner!IMG_0001

This crisp and lightweight sateen is available in 12 colors and is recommended for many garment styles.

I’ve sewn with stretch sateen on many occasions and find it to be one of the friendliest sewing fabrics available!

The lycra content provides a nice crosswise stretch, and by lining the jacket in the same sateen I’ve doubled the weight and added functionality to the design. It’s not only warm but serves as a terrific wind block.IMG_0045 2So look to your inner child for inspiration this Spring and prepare to receive a rainbow ?

I love the pink & coral combination and I never thought of using cotton santeen for a jacket but what a great idea! Especially in a fairly fitted jacket which this one could be.

Thank you, Kathleen! Sateen is a great choice for jackets and doubling the fabric with the lining provides extra body and stability ?

Absolutely beautiful. I want to get that pattern. I agree with not putting on the button. Color is lovely as is your beautiful grand daughter.. Grandchildren are certainly blessing. I have 6.
