Cotton Voile Summer Top
When talking about the perfect summer fabric, I would have to say this Mood Fabrics’ Thakoon Cotton Voile is about as perfect as it gets. I love this fabric, it is the perfect summer weight and just was so easy to sew. In fact, I would love to buy all the fabric that felt just like this piece and sew many, many summer garments.
I know when the temperature sores above 95 degrees, I want a summer top that makes you feel cool. Right when this fabric arrived, I knew I would make it into Simplicity 2892, a pattern I have made only once before but I love the style and the shirring detail.
This pattern doesn’t take too long to make, the shirring takes the most time. Gathers on both side which are attached to a yoke, which is the same pattern piece as the yoke lining. I like this feature of attaching the shirring piece to a stable piece. Match up all the key points, baste it down and that shirring isn’t moving anywhere.
I read once to press these gathers flat and the reason is to get rid of the fluff. Our body has fluff, we don’t want our garments to have fluff, too. I totally agree with that comment so I pressed these gathers flat!
These pictures are taken at a relative’s house in what we called the “piney woods” as kids. A grove of trees on the north side of the house, which provided a wind block from the bitter cold winter wind. In July, these trees provide nice shade and comfort from the hot summer sun. I didn’t need my sunglasses, but they just make the outfit look a bit more like summer, right?
Looking at this picture, I need to work on the shoulder tan. This past weekend, I helped daughter #2 and her husband with a backyard fence. My short sleeve shirt gave me a farmer’s tan!
If a jacket becomes necessary, this top looks fantastic with a jacket, too.
Now a look at the back
So quick, head over and get this fabric before it is gone.
