A Whimsical Blouse in Anna Sui Silk

I always enjoy watching Anna Sui’s fashion shows. Her designs are playful and fun but not toddler like and twee. The fabrics she uses are usually prints and are often mixed together in interesting ways. When I saw this “Famous Designer Conversational Satin Faced Silk Chiffon” on Moodfabrics.com, I was pretty sure it was hers even though it wasn’t titled as such. I just adored the cats sitting on chairs, the red apples, the little scrolled frames and the texture, and snapped some up a few months back thinking it would certainly sell out quickly. (There is only a little […]

Blue and White Cotton Skirt with Pop of Red Top

Recently, Mike (the hubby) and I were heading to a casual event and I went to grab a summer skirt to wear.   It seemed like the perfect separate for  the weather and with a cute top, I would be neither over or under dressed.  Now you are probably guessing where this is going, yes, you are right.  I had no cute summer skirt.  This seems so not right, sewing skirts is a fun and quick project, right?   I went with Burda 6904, a pattern I have been wanting to make for quite some time.  The fabric is the […]

A Coral and Floral Draped-Back Top

I’ve been craving more easy pieces in my wardrobe lately. I would just love a closet full of pieces that can be effortlessly thrown together into outfits in the morning. I try really hard not to live in running clothes day in and day out, but some days I only have about five seconds to get ready.  It would be so nice to really only need those five seconds… because I love wearing everything in my closet and because so many things work well together. I started towards this goal a few months ago by de-cluttering and giving away a whole bunch of things I […]

Tigerlily Orange Top & Burnished Gold Jeans

I’m not terribly proud to admit this, but there is quite a bit of inspiration that comes by way of my boss’ closet. Before that sounds too weird, let me backtrack – I work as a Personal Assistant, and part of my job is handling the laundry (no groans here – I actually really love doing laundry. Seriously!). My employer is pretty fashionable, and LOVES shopping, so there are constantly new pieces going in the closet and getting subsequently filed away in my mental inspiration folder. Such is the case with this outfit – light colored jeans and a coral […]

Stretch cotton border print set!

Man, is my man good at making me look tall! Went for my annual physical last week, and was, as always, SHOCKED to be told I am just barely all of 5’2. Surely there’s something wrong with their equipment. I mean, look at me. I’M GIGANTIC. You know, I enjoy my delusions. Like the assumption that I can keep track of multiple sewing projects. I cannot. As my beloved grandmother always used to say, I got a head like a sieve. Actually my noodle is pretty good at multitasking. I’m at my most happy place when I’m infatuated by multiple […]

Patterned Culottes and a Stripey Tee

Hey friends! Hope everyone’s April is winding down nicely.  I have a question for all you fabric enthusiasts out there – do you buy fabric with a project in mind, or do you buy fabric, because ooh pretty?? I’d say more often than not I try to buy fabric with a project in mind, or I’ll go browsing online and see if a fabric sparks my interest and becomes the catalyst for some sewing inspiration.  But either way, once I hit the ‘buy’ button, I generally have an inkling about what I want the fabric to be used for.  Every once […]

Colorful Spring Separates!

Last month, I spent a long weekend in NYC. Since I’m a practical person with adult priorities, this meant that I spent 2 days shopping in the Garment District, with most of my time being focused on the Mood Fabrics flagship store. Don’t even judge me. Wait until I show you what I got my hands on, first. Do you see that navy and white striped fabric??? Ok, go ahead and judge. I’ll wait. As much as I love ordering from the Mood Fabrics website from the comfort of my own home (and in the comfort of my underwear, because, […]

Polka Dot Voile!

Greetings from the nation’s number one wedding destination spot, Charleston, SC! Hubs and I are in the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant, just across the bridge from Charleston. We’re staying in an inn above one of our favorite restaurants and attending a wedding in a historic home on the Ashley River. So is there anything better to wear while strolling amidst the gentle breezes and tree lined streets of this charming city than a white cotton voile tunic? The tunic was a work in progress beginning with my own pattern and this delightful polka dot cotton voile from Mood Fabrics. After […]

DVF Lace, Part II

As promised, I’m back with the remainder of the DVF Cotton Lace project. Some people are born to sew couture. It relaxes them they say…… I get that, but before undertaking a couture garment, I always take a deep breath and try to prepare myself for the time commitment couture sewing requires. To date, I have underestimated the time commitment of every project. But now it’s time to celebrate! As mentioned in my last Mood Sewing Network post, I ordered the lilac DVF cotton lace from Mood Fabrics last Spring, envisioning a two-piece dress for my daughter’s Bridesmaids’ luncheon. The dress missed […]
