A Ladylike Skirt in stretch cotton polka dot twill

I had an urge to make a ‘ladylike’ skirt nothing too fancy, just a feminine everyday skirt. I’m typically a jeans & tee person – or long, long maxi skirts and dresses. However they don’t always suit the event, company, location or weather. I fell in love with the denim tones of this cotton stretch twill from Mood Fabrics NY. I thought if I can’t wear jeans I might as well embraced the colour scheme! Unfortunately this shade of fabric has sold out however the beauty of Mood Fabrics is that there is a seemingly endless array of fabrics and still […]

Laced Up in Metallic Paradise Pink Paisley Lace

That title is a tongue twister.  Say it three times fast.  Lol.  This lace is fused on a nylon textile that is smooth and opaque.  It is similar the Coral Scallop Edged Re-Emboidered Lace that is current available at Mood.  No need for me to talk about how gorgeous it is.  You can see for yourself.  It is a great fabric to use for the special occasion outfit that needs to be made in a hurry. This project was supposed to be a two-day project at most, once I worked through the fit issues of the pattern.  It all started […]

Embroidered Raw Silk Mini Skirt

So this fabric is AWESOME. It was definitely the piece I was most excited about packing in my suitcase as I left the US last month. It’s a Rag & Bone embroidered raw silk and is one of the most unusual yardages I have ever laid my hands on despite being only $18 a yard. It’s a kind of home dec weight but so tactile because of it’s uneven slub and dense embroidery. The white stitching against the vivid indigo blue is beautiful and I think it’s the contrast between the uniformity of the embroidered design against the raw, natural […]

A Geometric Skirt & Faux-Wrap Top for Fall

Good evening, friends! There is a trend in my MSN projects, I’ve noticed. Almost every month, my post discusses weather and its influence on my sewing. While I’d love to buck that trend, we’re out of luck. This outfit is a direct result of one thing: my longing for autumn. While elsewhere leaves are changing colors and the air dances with chills, Texas hasn’t gotten that memo. It’s been nothing but sunshine, oppressive heat, and weather better suited for swim season. I’m sick of it! Bring on the colder weather already. I’m tapped out with summer, y’all. And so, we […]

Tanya Taylor Viscose Print Two Piece

The fabric I used for this month’s Mood Sewing Network project was one of those that jumped straight off the page at me and I ended up ordering without a specific project in mind. It’s described as a Stretch Viscose Twill so I pounced on it as I’ve always had a good experience sewing garments with viscose in the past and often struggle to find it in interesting prints and colours here in London. When it arrived I was really surprised, but in a good way! The description on the Mood Fabrics site is perfectly accurate but it’s a really […]

Linen lovin’

Are you shocked to see me in blue? With a black tank top, no less?! Me too. A warm toned gal, I am I am, so obviously the wall needed to bend to my fiery will. And once again, I’ve bent to the will of Anna Sui. This bolt of luscious linen positively leapt out from the shelf at Mood NY and punched me in the heartstrings. Surprise surprise, selvedge says: it’s Sui. If memory serves, I grabbed 2 yards, and immediately kicked myself when I got home and got to thinking. I wanted a maxi skirt to make the most […]

Blue and White Cotton Skirt with Pop of Red Top

Recently, Mike (the hubby) and I were heading to a casual event and I went to grab a summer skirt to wear.   It seemed like the perfect separate for  the weather and with a cute top, I would be neither over or under dressed.  Now you are probably guessing where this is going, yes, you are right.  I had no cute summer skirt.  This seems so not right, sewing skirts is a fun and quick project, right?   I went with Burda 6904, a pattern I have been wanting to make for quite some time.  The fabric is the […]

Colorful Spring Separates!

Last month, I spent a long weekend in NYC. Since I’m a practical person with adult priorities, this meant that I spent 2 days shopping in the Garment District, with most of my time being focused on the Mood Fabrics flagship store. Don’t even judge me. Wait until I show you what I got my hands on, first. Do you see that navy and white striped fabric??? Ok, go ahead and judge. I’ll wait. As much as I love ordering from the Mood Fabrics website from the comfort of my own home (and in the comfort of my underwear, because, […]

DVF Lace, Part II

As promised, I’m back with the remainder of the DVF Cotton Lace project. Some people are born to sew couture. It relaxes them they say…… I get that, but before undertaking a couture garment, I always take a deep breath and try to prepare myself for the time commitment couture sewing requires. To date, I have underestimated the time commitment of every project. But now it’s time to celebrate! As mentioned in my last Mood Sewing Network post, I ordered the lilac DVF cotton lace from Mood Fabrics last Spring, envisioning a two-piece dress for my daughter’s Bridesmaids’ luncheon. The dress missed […]
