My Kinda Neutral!

ANIMAL PRINT. YUM. I could wear it everywhere! And I mean, head to toe everywhere ūüėú Animal print is a big neutral for me. I like to pair it with everything– stripes! Flowers! Geometrics! Denim! Seriously, what doesn’t it go with? The only pairing I hadn’t tried with this self-drafted two piece ponte set was…more animal print. I honestly don’t know what took me so long. This wild little shirt is Simplicity 8340, modified to a more cropped and tie-able length. She doesn’t have buttons yet, although she does have perfect buttonholes-in-waiting. They’ve yet to be sliced open, as I’ve […]

Ankara Blues

I’ve decided to embrace the fact that I have zero desire to sew for the season I’m in. (Whatever season we’re calling whatever *this* is now). This never-ending pseudo winter is making me blue! Of course in fashion, looking seasonally ahead is the norm. Spring is all over the runways and I am going to be SO READY. This is one of three wax print maxi dresses I’ve gleefully churned out over the course of February. I had plans to unveil them all in a massive, colorful post, but the short month had me scrambling to get shots of just […]

Relaxing in Silk Chiffon

After 8 full days of hollering with family and friends, I am worded OUT! My brain is in need of the kind of recharge where you spend all day at home in a robe. Unfortunately, I’m not one to spend all day in a robe. Robes are problematic for me. One, robes in our house are historically not fancy enough. Two, I don’t really sew things to chill in. Luckily, I tricked myself into sewing a fancy robe. This is Vogue 9253, made by the entirety of the sewing population last summer. The whole shebang is french seamed, a lovely […]

Border Print Maxi Skirt: with shine!

I dove into this heavyweight metallic blend about 30 seconds after arriving home with it. This is one of those lucky garments that took a day to make, and promises to be a favorite for years. I LOVE IT. As most of my quicker pieces go, this one flew by because I draped it on my form, and let the border print tell me what to do. So…no, I don’t have a pattern for this, sorry! Just start with wide rectangles, and you’re on your way to an easy pleated maxi skirt. (But *do* remember to iron the back pleats […]

Knit Fabric Basics

Sometimes I just need some basics, fun basics in knit. ¬†I bought these beautiful fabrics from Mood Fabrics in August ¬†and went to planning for fall. ¬†First up is Mood Fabric’s Rust Stretch Knit Pique¬†and let me tell you this fabric is so luxurious and I want all the colors. ¬†How many colors? ¬†There is nine! ¬†The next fabric is Mood Fabrics’ Rust and Navy Striped Rib Knit ¬†and as I hoped when ordering these two fabrics look so good together.   Now time to plan and a I went with New Look 6530 for the top, it was […]

Playing Favorites

My favorite food is pizza. ¬†I try to eat it once a week. I don’t even think of denying myself this pleasure. So when I questioned myself on choosing to work with another Supreme Wax fabric, I gave myself this theory: PIZZA IS GOOD. WAX PRINT IS GOOD. YOU SHOULD THEREFORE HAVE BOTH WHENEVER YOU WANT THEM. That’s solid theorizing. With 6 yards of fabric in a cut, and summer sewing in full force, I went for maxi proportions. Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity 1802 (out of print, I think), was the object of my desire. Or the vehicle for? I […]

The Baja Blue Single-Shoulder Stretch Crepe Jumpsuit

When you find a great fabric you love, you buy it multiple times! That’s what I did with this amazing Theory Baja Blue Stretch Crepe, which is unfortunately sold out. I bought this fabric last year and made this great dress and it immediately sold out then. If Mood restocks this one, you should grab it. But until then, here are some selections that I think would be great (Ralph Lauren Evening Blue Stretch Crepe,¬†Deep Wisteria Stretch Polyester Crepe¬†and¬†Italian Stretch Polyester Crepe Fabric). It’s no secret that I love a jumpsuit. And I always like for my fabric to have […]

Viscose For Summer Heat!

This is one of those fabrics that has to be experienced in real life, the lens doesn’t do it justice! To come close to the true colors in this Italian viscose jersey, I had to bump up the saturation. And now I have “Pump Up the Volume” in my head. My apologies if you do, too. Let me change that ear worm with the story of this garment’s first outing! Rob & I snapped these photos in the golden hour, on our way to Lincoln Center’s opening night of #LCOutOfDoors. It’s a wonderful, free program offered every summer, with nights […]

A Raspberry Wine Maxi Shirt Dress

Are you seeing double? I gasped when I saw Sallie’s June MSN project, done in the same print, different color way! However, Sallie’s mind was much more romantic and thoughtful about the whole enterprise,¬†casting herself in a role she needed to create an ensemble for. Her role was¬†American Beauty, mine is¬†Raspberry Wine…how fitting is¬†that. Now, neither of us knew we’d both picked this lovely viscose–to boot, we both had a mind to make a shirtdress, and we both had a mind to end the buttons well before the end of the actual dress! Sallie was perfectly cast in her choice […]
