Silk Faille Prom Dress

You read that title right – I made a prom dress this month! And not for a high schooler (please, we all know I’m not that unselfish), but an actual prom dress for myself ūüėČ Before you get too skeeved out at the idea of a 30 year old attending prom, I should point out that my best friend is a high school English teacher, and thus gets 2 free tickets every year. I weaseled my way into being her date because I wanted an excuse to make a fancy dress. Wouldn’t you do the same? ūüôā My first advice […]

Sleeveless Striped Metallic Knit Top

After last month’s complex Easter dress, I decided to keep it simple for April and make a knit top in a pattern I’ve used before with good results. The pattern is Jalie 2921. I used Mood Fabric’s oyster/brown gray metallic striped cotton jersey knit. A couple months ago I’d bought a cut of it along with its matching larger stripe for a different knit top, but the project bombed. However, I liked the fabric so much that I got another 1.5 yards and went for a garment I knew would turn out. Since I wanted more of a casual look […]

Bird Print Cotton Shirtdress

Hello, everyone! This spring, I’ve been totally consumed by an old love of mine: shirtdresses. Not only are they on trend this season, but there are a ton of new patterns out there. ¬†Whether you’re into swishy, feminine designs or modern, deconstructed takes on the style, some company is offering your platonic button-down dress. Personally, I’m forever drawn to classic styling. Stand collars, tailored button bands, and cinched waists are my ideal details. While my TNT pattern (M6696) has all of these, I’ve been itching to try something new. McCall’s 7351 fits that bill perfectly. This is a slightly more […]

Maroon Double Cloth Lace – Simplicity 1314

My eyes light up with joy when I see something beautiful.¬† And that was exactly what happened when I saw this Maroon Double Cloth with Lace from Mood.¬† At first, I imagined a high-waist pencil skirt.¬† But when the pretty cloth arrived to my surprise the yardage was more than I requested.¬† It must have been the last on the roll, because it included this tag.¬† No matter the circumstance, I was too happy to get a little more and couldn’t let it go to waste.¬† So I decided to make Simplicity 1314 again.   There is nothing wrong […]

Cotton Stretch Sateen

Baby or bridal shower, garden party or luncheon, I’ve got a blooming dress to wear ūüôā My fabric, a blue/green/white floral cotton stretch sateen¬†is only one of many from Mood Fabrics’¬†delightful collection¬†of cotton stretch sateens! With Spring in full bloom, I was craving a bouquet of my own and selected Butterick 6048, View C for its ¬†whimsical¬†cutout shoulders. What I thought would be an easy sew became quite eventful, but the sateen beautifully held its own against multiple bastings, the frixon pen and a busy seam ripper. The dress is designed as a pullover (with a center back seam), but […]

Kitty Cat Print Shirtdress!

Hello everyone! And happy last day of March! Please excuse my frizzy hair and general unkempt-ness in these photos. ¬†Our weather of late has decided to be mild, but sticky, overcast, and permanently threatening rain, but never delivering – like living inside a cloud. Good for the plants, but not so great for looking polished and put-together! But that’s ok! Frizzy hair and melting makeup can’t put a damper on my enthusiasm for this new dress! March is my birthday month and I always like to work on something a little extra special as a bit of a gift to […]

Classic Navy and White for Spring!

A navy blazer is classic and timeless. ¬†It’s also essential to my wardrobe and the reason I needed to feel that hole. ¬†I’d run across this fabulous¬†Theory Uniform Navy Striped Stretch Cotton-Linen Blend from Mood Fabrics.com. ¬†I knew it would be perfect for a jacket. I selected Vogue Patterns 1439, from designer Anne Klein. ¬†I love Anne Klein patterns. ¬†The styles, especially the jackets and pants have excellent tailored details and classically-chic styles. Here is the ready-to-wear version which is currently sold out. I cut the size 14. ¬†I like to give myself room with jackets. ¬†Even though this is […]

Black & White Lace Easter Dress

I got started on my Easter dress early this year so I wouldn’t run out of time like I usually do. I fell in love with this Pamella Roland designer Vogue pattern the minute I laid eyes on it. I had to have THE EXACT SAME DRESS as the example on the envelope. But, you know, I have a lot of projects swimming around in my head at any given time, and I was willing to wait for just the right fabric to come along. When Mood Fabrics posted this Theory black cotton guipure lace a while back, I shouted […]

Jersey Twist Dress

Hi friends! Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! First things first, that little bit of belly you see above is indeed a baby bump. The little one is due in August, which means I’m about half way through this pregnancy. My husband and I are¬†in a race to see which will come first – the new baby or the finished kitchen. We’re definitely¬†rooting for the kitchen. And, to help hedge our bets, our renovation pace has quickened in the last few months. Our new¬†backdoor is ready, our windows have been ordered, and we’ll be starting the electrical work next week. But, keep […]
