Sweet Silk Cherries

Confession: I don’t like cherries. Not to eat, anyway. What I do like, though, is stuff with cherries printed on it (actually, let’s be honest – I like anything with fruit printed on it! Too adorable!). Any fruit-printed fabric that I come across is immediately snapped up and sewn into something painfully adorable. And while most of these fabrics tend to be printed on quilting weight cotton (or silk chiffon, for whatever strange reason. No, really, who is buying all that crazy printed silk chiffon? REVEAL YOURSELF, I want to see what you’re making!), occasionally I stumble across a diamond […]

Theory Striped Maxi

Once again, the spirits of Marcy the Medium have influenced my fabric selection! “You need more yellow in your life,” she stated. I think I ordered the best yellow a n y t h i n g  ever available, for Mood Fabrics’ Theory Light Canary Striped Viscose Ponte Blend  has more than surpassed my expectations!  I wasn’t ready to put away the pattern from my last project (New Look 6210) quite yet – especially since the fit had been tweeked to perfection. Besides, I had set out to make a maxi and ended up with a short dress. The phenomenal drape of […]

The Bold Magenta 2-Ply Silk Crepe De Chine Romper!

Summer is in full-effect here in the South. And cool, casual, chic and comfy looks are required. And one of my favorite summer fabrics is silk crepe de chine. I love it in everything and I can always find a garment that it’ll be perfect for.

Strips And Stripes

When I ordered this striped cotton voile at Mood Fabrics online, I had no idea what I was going to do with it.  But white-n-black combos were on sale, and if something on sale piques my interest, that’s a chance to get enough yardage to fearlessly cut and piece and drape till I like what I see. (Apparently I’m not the only squirrel, she’s gone online, but there are more striped voiles here, and peep that blue floral one!) Signs that I am binge watching Game Of Thrones: there are no zips, no snaps, there are only drawstrings.  They made […]

Comfortable Summer Color-Blocking

Good afternoon, everyone! It’s officially summer down here in Texas — temperatures blazing above 90 degrees and heavy thunderstorms brewing across the state. Even better, school is out for a few months! Since most of my break will be spent putting the finishing touches on my dissertation, I opted for comfort with this month’s Mood Sewing Network piece. A comfortable, classic knit dress sounded heavenly! Luckily, Mood Fabrics has the most divine selection of cotton jerseys. Seeing as this dress was going to be a simple silhouette, I opted to mix things up with my fabric choice. Instead of going […]

First Summer Dress – Oscar de la Renta border print

In my book, the best season of all starts today – H a p p y   S u m m e r   E v e r y o n e  ! It’s time for warm weather, fresh produce, beach vacations and carefree clothing 🙂 I’m celebrating with a new dress sewn in Oscar de la Renta’s Turquoise Border Print Cotton Twill from Mood Fabrics. I ordered the fabric last summer which is no longer available, but do check out Moods’ fabulous border prints HERE. This dress marks my second attempt at sewing a Vintage pattern. Inspired by one […]

Black and White Italian Cotton Woven Pants

Yes, it is another pair of pants, I just can’t help myself. I love this Burda pattern, well this time is is a combination of Burda 7447 and Burda 6981 (using the cut of the legs only).  Truthfully it isn’t really the pattern, it is the great fabric at Mood Fabrics, I can find something wonderful all the time.  Take this Italian Cotton Woven     Something about black and white, just draws me in, so classic in nature.   After wearing each Burda pattern, I decided I really like the fit and cut of Burda 7447 and the leg […]

Pink and Fuchsia Jersey Top

I’ve been rather shell shocked since completing the 30 Day Dress, and knew the only way back to the sewing machine was through instant gratification. This pink and fuchsia cotton jersey from Mood Fabrics was one of those fabrics I ordered just because…….  and it turned out to be my saving grace. Buy a fabric you love and the pattern will appear 😉 I couldn’t think beyond the word  e a s y  and selected Simplicity 1613, View D – a great remedy for the jaded sewer! View D requires crosswise stretch only so most any knit will work, but this cotton feels quite wonderful […]

Geometric Shift Dress!

Hello! Hope your weeks are all off to a great start! I’m so excited to show you my (literally) shiny, new dress! This is a Marc Jacobs cotton/silk blend that I picked up at Mood Fabrics NYC. It has a lovely satin finish so it feels extra fancy. As soon as I saw it, it looked me in the eye and spoke to me: “I’m a shift dress!” Who am I to disagree? (Check out Mood’s selection of geometric prints here!) The fabric sewed up easily, more like a cotton than a silk. I armed myself with a sharp needle […]
