Vogue 8921 In Black-Metallic Gold Foil African-Inspired Stretch Velour

Happy New Year! This is one of four projects that I’d hoped to finish before the end of 2017.  I barely made it finishing the hem on December 30th around mid-night.   This fabric is definitely the speaker.  No need for a lot of details to show it off.  So I decided to make another version of  Vogue 8921, view C, the first time I used this pattern was in 2014. Forgive if the photo quality is not the best.  It is brutally cold in Illinois.  So no outdoor picture.  No way, no how. My goal was to have this dress […]

Festive Brocade Holiday Dress

The holidays are here, and you know what that means – time to bust out the sparkly garb! Or in my case – if you don’t have a sparkly party dress, it’s a great opportunity to sew one up 🙂 While I have a great brocade skirt that I got a lot of wear out of last year, I wanted something fresh for this season – so I timed my next NYC trip to include a change to shop at Mood Fabrics for a festive brocade. I actually have very little experience with brocade – my lifestyle doesn’t warrant much […]

Merry & Bright!

If you’re looking for a reason to be Merry & Bright this season, look no further than Mood Fabrics!  Sequins galore abound this season on the store’s website, and I fell right in line upon seeing the glittering silver baby sequined fabric. To keep the focus on the fabric, I kept it simple with a shift dress using  New Look 6524 as my base pattern. Following Maria Denmark’s tutorial I removed the bust dart for a clean front bodice. The sequins are sewn on mesh and the fabric tends to s t r e t c h easily. Staystiching the shoulders, armscye […]

Periwinkle Silk Dupioni 1890’s Historical Costume

Hello everyone! Today I’m really excited to share a project with you that has been my focus for many months now – my late Victorian walking suit! Some of you may remember last year when I made my first historical costume for a Victorian Christmas event here in Galveston. I had such a great time, and learned so much making that costume that I was excited to try my hand at another for this year. And of course, none of this would be possible without Mood Fabrics! This year I really wanted my costume to be historically accurate to a […]

Little Black Dress in Rag & Bone Black Polyester Crepe – Vogue 9239 View F

OMG!  It’s been such a long time since I last blogged.  I’ve been struggling with projects and time to write it all down to share it with you.  Finally, today I was able to get a few pictures, some not the best quality, but good enough to show you my latest dress. Months ago, I came up with the notion of making some solid color dresses.  As I look through my wardrobe, I decided that I didn’t have any “new” solid black dresses.  So I search the Mood online fabric store and found this beautiful Rag and Bone black polyester […]

Rust Orange Wool Crepe Skirt

This month, I’d like to show you a skirt that I made that encompasses 2 of my very favorite things in the world: rust orange, and wool crepe <3 I don’t really include a lot of color in my wardrobe these days – I wear a lot of grey, black and navy, and I like to think that any color come from my ~colorful personality~ (or, more realistically – my hair). But every now and then, something amazing catches my eye and I’ll bend my color rules because I can’t help myself. The key, I’ve learned, is to stick with […]

Basic Black!

While many patterns were hacked to create this dress, I can happily state that every inch of its fabric is from Mood. 🙂 It was time for a new black winter dress; an all purpose dress to wear whenever and wherever. My inspiration came from the current Oscar de la Renta Ready to Wear collection. I love the way this dress skims the body, but I had no pattern that included all of its features. After using bits and pieces from several patterns, I’m calling this The McVoguerick Tunicbiblicity dress. While it was an absolute pain to put this dress together, […]

A non-traditional Dirndl for Oktoberfest

Hello everyone! As I’m writing this, it’s Halloween, so Happy Halloween! October is one of my favorite months because not only am I a sucker for Halloween, but it’s also the time of year when the end of summer is in sight, and it marks the start of Festival Season here in Galveston.  After the beach season ends for the year, the island tries to make up for the lack of tourist economy by hosting big festivals throughout the winter months. There’s the Lonestar Biker Rally, Dickens on the Strand, Mardi Gras, and, my personal favorite, Oktoberfest! I love Oktoberfest […]

A Little Pink Transitional Dress

Autumn is always a time of transition. Leaves fall, temperatures chill, and babies take over your life. Or, perhaps, that last one is only me. We welcomed our darling daughter in September and life is currently a whirlwind of diaper changes, gummy smiles, and tiny pink outfits. For me, the last six weeks have also meant navigating postpartum body changes. My measurements change hourly and my closet is a minefield of garments that are too big there, too small here. Even my library of previously adjusted, tried-and-true patterns are completely useless, until things settle out. Which means…time to try a […]
