Bedroom Curtains

Home dec sewing, it maybe isn’t my first love or second love but most of the time mine is pretty simple and what a difference fabric can make.  Julie at Mood asked if we wanted to do a home dec project in honor of Mood’s new home dec showroom, I did a bit of thinking.  Yes, I wanted new curtains for the master bedroom for the new two-color quilt I made, so the decision was easy. Our master bedroom has been blue and brown for several years, I was trying to keep it more neutral for my husband.  Well, I […]

The Laughing in Taffeta Birthday Dress

For my birthday this year, I wanted something insane. I like to get what I want. I paired this Oscar de la Renta Silk Taffeta (sold out, but peep these Oscar silks) with Magenta Dotted Organza (don’t be fooled by the picture, it’s magenta for sure!), meaning to use the organza as a crinoline… but, well, plans (as usual) changed once I stared the yardage in the face. I also paired up patterns: Cynthia Rowley 1802 and Simplicity 0320, heavily modified to get the look I wanted at the shoulder and back. One could almost say ham handedly modified.  I definitely […]

Pug Pillow Makeover!

OK, I’ll be honest… there’s almost nothing I’d rather not do than sew home dec stuff. I’m just not into it! And I’m really not good at interior design or picking out things that go together in my apartment- it’s a pretty basic setup chez Ginger! So when Julie at Mood asked if I’d like to do a special project to celebrate the opening of Mood’s new home dec showroom, I was like, “No, thanks!”. Not my cup ‘o’ tea! Fast forward a few days, and I get a rare, unprompted sewing request from Man Friend to make some curtains […]

Ikat Jersey Summer Dress

It is August and summer is winding down but I still have a few summer things to sew.  One thing I needed was a nice dress for weddings, parties and night outs.  I purchased Mood Fabrics’ Ikat Cotton Jersey, which is almost sold out.  This is a super nice jersey so don’t hesitate to purchase it or you can pick any of Mood Fabrics’ jersey fabrics.     My original plan was Colette Pattern’s Myrtle dress but I had 2 yards of fabric and this pattern requires 3 yards.  I took a look through my patterns and found a great […]

Cotton Pique Shirtdress!

Hi, guys! We’re nearly halfway through the summer- can you believe it?? I’ve done some wild and crazy sewing this summer, experimenting with different silhouettes and going crazy with prints, which has been really fun. But this month I decided I wanted to make an everyday summer dress, classic in shape and color, that I can dress up or down, accessorize multiple ways, and wear anywhere my day takes me! No crazy prints allowed! (Sidenote: my print and bright colors mania has led to a bit of a situation in the shoe department. Tell me I’m not the only one […]

Silk Crepe De Chine Romper

Last week we housed 5 adults and 2 children for 24 hours. And all I got was this awesome Silk Crepe De Chine thingamajig. One of said adults, the six-foot-fifty-eight one, was sporting a fabulous, flowy, silky pants-thing that had holes for your footsies and shirring at the top.  This dame, let’s call her The Diva, wore them because she knew I would specifically be fascinated by them.  Indeed I was.  I made her take them off that evening so’s I could study ’em. With two screaming nutjobs in the house in various states of undress, it wasn’t weird at […]

The Capri-Blue Neoprene Mesh Dress!

When I saw this fabric, it immediately caught my attention.  This is Capri Blue Nylon-Silk Neoprene I wasn’t sure about it, so I swatched!  If there is every a “questionable” fabric that you aren’t familiar with — swatch first!  And I’m so glad I did. I don’t think the picture accurately details this fabric. It’s a textured honeycomb patterned, capri blue neoprene material is layered on top of a pastel blue knit, combining to make a thick, three-dimensional material with a nice one directional stretch. And the fabric content is 79% nylon, 21% silk. It’s absolutely amazing. The fabric sewed well.  However, […]

Red Voille for a Fun Summer Blouse

Happy July everyone and summer is in full force.  I can’t complain here in Missouri we have had one of the best summers ever, most of the time in the 80’s and plenty of rain.  The rain is very important here in farmland and it makes for a very happy husband, too.   I ordered this beautiful red floral cotton voile a couple months ago and unfortunately it is sold out.  Never fear, Mood Fabric’s cotton voile selection is filled with amazing prints and colors.  I really love sewing with cotton voille, it presses beautifully and is so easy to […]

Summer Time Dress in Lime Cotton Poplin

Light weight cotton poplin is a great fabric for summer clothing.  In July, Chi-town is super hot and sticky. So it’s best to dress in something easy breezy and made of a breathable fiber. In my hunt to find great summer wearable fabrics, I found a slew of them at the Mood online fabric store.  There are at least ten yummy poplin type textiles that I’d love to have in my possession.  But for this post I want to direct your attention to this beautiful lime cotton poplin, perfect for comfortable summer dresses and camp shirts.  Love it.  […]
