Abstract Print Knit Wrap Dress

Ok, folks, fess up. How many of y’all bought this poppy red abstract knit fabric when it went live on Mood Fabrics a few weeks ago? As of this writing, I’ve seen at least 5 fellow sewing bloggers add it to their stash, not including myself. No judgement here – it’s a beautiful fabric! Of course, I immediately snapped up a couple of yards for myself with a wrap dress in mind. The bold print reminds me of some of those 70s vintage Diane Von Fürstenberg wrap dresses that I just can’t get enough of. Occasionally, I find buying knit […]

Mulberry Roses Neoprene Dress

Even though I’d heard great things about sewing with neoprene, I wasn’t really tempted to try out the new-to-me fabric. I was worried that it would be too hot to wear or that it would make people wonder why I was wearing a wetsuit to the park. But then Mood Fabrics started offering digitally printed neoprene jerseys, and those prints were just too much to resist. There were quite a few prints that I considered, but this Mulberry Roses digital print ending up being the winner. When the fabric arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it draped when I hung […]

Mixed Blue Abstract Rayon Jersey and My Favorite Maxi Dress M6700

Changing up on the print is good sometimes.  So instead of my favorite print (floral), I chose this great geometric rayon jersey.  I wanted a quick, easy cute dress to wear to the Toni Braxton concert. My all time favorite, a McCall super easy and super cute maxi dress.  I made it twice before and thought it would be the perfect match for this awesome jersey print.  This dress takes about two hours to make.  My previous reviews are here and here. It’s 54 inches wide.  I ordered only three yards, not enough for a belt.  So I wore a […]

Watercolor Floral Cotton Sateen

It’s clear that I love floral prints.  In recent months I’ve ordered several yardages of bright, bold floral prints.  My favorite, so far, for 2015 is Mood multi- color watercolor cotton sateen.  (Too bad it’s already sold out.)  The colors warm my skin giving me a summer glow.   Mood has a huge selection  of floral prints to pick from if this is not your favorite color.  My dress is completely lined with Mood’s mint -mechanical stretch polyester crepe de chine.  I regularly surf  Pinterest looking for inspirational garments.  I found this dress early summer and I knew I’d make […]

Geometric Print Summer Dress

Greetings from sweaty Texas! Is it hot where you are? I’m sure it is. We’re into the dog days of summer around here, and even I – sun worshipper that I am – am finding myself retreating into the shade in search of a fan and a cool glass of something.  Anything!  In my sewing room I am still working on adding little, easy summer dresses to my wardrobe, including my most recent make for the Mood Sewing Network, this fun, bold, geometric print beauty you see before you. I think I’m starting to develop a bit of a pattern bad habit […]

Shake, Shimmer and Sparkle!

Vogue 1288 has been on my to sew list for a while.  So long, that the pattern is currently out-of-print.  I knew from the beginning that I would always make this dress using a sequin fabric.  It was just meant for it.  Then I ran across this perfect Blue and white Pailette Sequin Fabric at Mood Fabrics.com.  It was kismet! I cut the pattern size 12 and lengthened by 3 inches. The sequin pailettes are sporadically placed on a polyester mesh backing, so I decided to underline it with this polyester stretch crepe de chine. But when I tried it […]

The Summer of Paisley

Sometimes, a girl needs an extra-loud dress to get her through the horrendously hot and humid days of mid-July. I can’t say that I’ve ever considered myself much of a fan of paisley – some of the prints and colors remind me a little too much of the awful ties my dad work to work in the early 90s. Maybe it was less the print itself and more the recollection of the terrible fiber content. At any rate, I’ve never really been drawn to it, but something about this particular blue print at Mood Fabrics just took my breath away. […]

Feathers and Flowers – Simplicity 1103

Feathers not flowers!  At first glance of this colorful summer print, you think flowers.  I liked the placement of the feathers and decided to order two colors of this print, with the second one being the black, teal, red, and green.  This stretch cotton twill is light and breezy.  It has a smooth hand and sews up with no problem; easy breezy.  Don’t let the audacious print intimidate you.  It’s perfect for summer dresses, tops, and pants. Some people believe that less is more.  I believe it depends on how the “more” comes together to complete the desired look.   I’m […]

Cotton Poplin with Stretch!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! You survived another year, and I made a new dress to celebrate!   One of the things I look for when shopping online are fabrics that will work well together, and I had no doubts about these off-white and navy Celtic inspired stretch cotton poplins. from Mood Fabrics. Cotton poplin with the addition of spandex is a dream come true for casual Summer sewing! Crisp, lightweight and minimal wrinkling – what more can I want? Using my own pattern I sewed the bodice with the navy background poplin saving the reverse fabric for the collar, placket and […]
