Lightweight Indigo Linen Shirtdress

Now that Labor Day is barely behind us, fashions are taking a sharp turn for the ~fall look~. I love the richer colors and textures that come with this season, but lord y’all – it is still hot where I live, and it’s gonna stay this dang hot for at least another month! It’s nice to embrace a new season, but not at the risk of drowning in a pool of your own sweat amirite. I’ve found the best way to combat this is to wear pieces that capture the overall feel of fall – rich colors and textured fabrics […]

Playing Favorites

My favorite food is pizza.  I try to eat it once a week. I don’t even think of denying myself this pleasure. So when I questioned myself on choosing to work with another Supreme Wax fabric, I gave myself this theory: PIZZA IS GOOD. WAX PRINT IS GOOD. YOU SHOULD THEREFORE HAVE BOTH WHENEVER YOU WANT THEM. That’s solid theorizing. With 6 yards of fabric in a cut, and summer sewing in full force, I went for maxi proportions. Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity 1802 (out of print, I think), was the object of my desire. Or the vehicle for? I […]

Chambray Cold Shoulder Top

What can I say about the cold shoulder look?  Maybe I am totally in love with it and keep making top after top!  I had purchased Mood Fabrics’ Steven  Alan Denim Blue  Cotton Chambray in March with the intentions of a Scout Tee and maybe an Archer but plans change!  I am sorry to say this particular chambray is sold out but no worries, Mood Fabrics’ has a great selection of Chambray, in prints and solids in several colorways.     I used McCall’s 7510 in View B, which I thought might be a good look for early fall.  My […]

Eloise at the Plaza Dress

With an unapologetic youthfulness straight out of an “Eloise at the Plaza” book, add this adorable Pink and Blue Printed Stretch Cotton Sateen to your collection! Hand drawn flowers, swirled vines and hearts move in a kaleidoscopic fashion over a light blue background. A crisp hand is paired with a stiff drape for perfectly tailored pieces. Its stretch through the weft ensures the perfect fit for bodycon pieces as well! Make crop tops, shorts and shift dresses for an adorable spring/summer look. Who can resist a description like this?? I ordered the fabric with pants in mind since cotton sateen […]

Rayon Summer Sundress

Good morning, everyone! I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I’m just gonna come out and say it – it is HOT right now, y’all! Summer is in full force down here in Tennessee, and showing no signs of letting up – if anything, August will be even hotter. Those 90+ degree days might be reasonably bearable if humidity wasn’t a factor, but it is – and we be sticky now. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t mind the heat, and I definitely prefer it to the cold. But in order to beat the heat, you […]

Viscose For Summer Heat!

This is one of those fabrics that has to be experienced in real life, the lens doesn’t do it justice! To come close to the true colors in this Italian viscose jersey, I had to bump up the saturation. And now I have “Pump Up the Volume” in my head. My apologies if you do, too. Let me change that ear worm with the story of this garment’s first outing! Rob & I snapped these photos in the golden hour, on our way to Lincoln Center’s opening night of #LCOutOfDoors. It’s a wonderful, free program offered every summer, with nights […]

Cut-Out Sleeve Maternity Maxi Dress

Hello everyone! My summer of maternity sewing continues at full steam, my closet steadily filling with stretchy, bump-friendly clothes. Most of these garments are pretty casual, summer tops and floaty tent dresses, but one special dress also made its way into my plans. Earlier this month, one of my best friends got married in an evening garden ceremony, saying her vows amongst sunflowers and lush bushes of roses. There was dancing and fantastic food and a moonlit stone villa in the background. How could I not make a fancy dress for such an occassion? You can’t wear any old thing […]

A Raspberry Wine Maxi Shirt Dress

Are you seeing double? I gasped when I saw Sallie’s June MSN project, done in the same print, different color way! However, Sallie’s mind was much more romantic and thoughtful about the whole enterprise, casting herself in a role she needed to create an ensemble for. Her role was American Beauty, mine is Raspberry Wine…how fitting is that. Now, neither of us knew we’d both picked this lovely viscose–to boot, we both had a mind to make a shirtdress, and we both had a mind to end the buttons well before the end of the actual dress! Sallie was perfectly cast in her choice […]

Navy Knit Dress!

Lilly Pulitzer introduced a fabulous collection of navy dresses this season, and I wanted one too. The Lilly dresses are available in every fabric imaginable bringing about many possibilities. My decision was based on the piece of Theory Navy Cotton Rib Knit I ordered from Mood Fabrics in March. (Now sold out but I highly recommend the navy stretch pique.) While Lilly refers to many of its dresses as ‘shift dresses‘, they look like tunics to me, and so I made a tunic from The Tunic Bible. Since this is at least the 40th tunic I’ve made during the last […]
