Fighting the Chill of the Chicago Winds in Mood Chocolate Double Knit – McCall 6996-A

Chicago winters should never be taken lightly.  The arctic blast is brutal, and lasts longer than the average North American winter.  Baby, it’s cold outside!  Everyone needs an extra layer under a warm coat to protect them from the wind and snow. Mood has a nice selection of cozy fabrics, here and here.  For a warm cardigan, I chose this insulated chocolate cotton poly double knit to help shield me from the chilling winds.  This textiles sews without any problems.  I paired it with McCall 6996 View-A.  It is described as Misses’ jackets and belt:  close-fitting, unlined jackets have raised […]

The Big Bang Dress and Cardigan

Hello everyone!  It’s nice to be here with you all again!  After taking a few months away from the Mood Sewing Network so that I could focus on my new baby, I really wanted to come back with a big bang.  I’d been keeping up with the Mood Fabrics New Arrivals page, and when this galaxy poly print from Mood Fabrics popped up, I knew it would be a stellar choice for my first MSN garment post baby. Haha!  Too much?!  Big bang… Galaxy print… Stellar?! Also, please tell me I’m not the only one who regularly checks the Mood Fabrics New Arrivals page? At […]

Cozy Cocoon Cardigan in Quilted Plaid Wool

Hi, guys!  Hope you’re all well!  Here in NYC it has suddenly grown bitterly cold, so perhaps we can blame what you’re about to witness on the weather. I’ve been really interested lately in the fun cocoon coats and jackets popping up on Pinterest and fashion blogs.  There’s something really daring about the exaggerated shape, and I really like that.  I love to be bold and try new shapes!  I thought it would be really fun to try out a traditional cold-weather fabric in this modern silhouette, so I used this amazing plaid wool coating from Mood Fabrics NYC (look […]

Patterned Knit Cardigan

I’ll be honest with you. I don’t usually care much for sewn cardigans. And, when people were getting on board the waterfall cardigan train three years ago, I happily passed. They don’t have the fitted look I seem to like in hand knit sweaters. But, I liked the look of this Burda waterfall cardigan (they call it a waist coat) when it appeared in the 11/2012 edition (#137 available on the BurdaStyle website for download for $5.40). They recommended using a lightweight mohair, but I wanted to use this thick and cozy geometric sweater knit from Mood fabrics. This is […]

Shades of Gray

This cardigan is made from a wool knit purchased from the Mood NYC store during my trip with Barbara.  The minute I touched the wool I knew it would be used for my tried and true Burda pattern 8869. Monday mornings are cold in my office.  I’m sure that’s because I sit in front of a big window and the building has no heat all weekend…and don’t let it be a three day weekend because then it takes half the morning for my area to warm up.  So I always dress a little warmer on Mondays and this cardigan will […]
