Mo’ Winter, Mo’ Hair.

Yeah, it’s not really feeling like winter in New York, but it’s not really feeling like spring either, so you’ll allow me my playtime with words… I mean, this is a lot of layering for the end of March! (And a lot of false exposure. Sorry. I blame the gray “spring” day and the indoor lighting.) Here’s a better look at this gorgeous mohair “famous designer” knit. I could be wrong, but¬†given my talent for sniffing out the Sui, I’m pretty sure I know the designer. It’s a thin knit, so I decided to partially line this little swacket (sweater […]

Armani Wool Knit

If this is wool then I’d like to be a sheep in my next life…. After taking time off to promote The Tunic Bible, it’s w o n d e r f u l to be blogging for the Mood Sewing Network again ūüôā Happy New Year !!!! I wanted to be prepared for South Carolina’s annual one-inch snowstorm, and ordered this fabulous Armani Oxford wool knit. When it arrived I reviewed my order to check the content of this smooth knit fabric. Was it really wool? What kind of conditioner did this sheep use? Honestly, the texture feels so […]

Alice + Olivia Sweater Cape

I think I look smug here. I know I FEEL smug here. I’m grinning like the cat that ate the canary all throughout these photos, and I don’t care.¬†Just a few short days ago, I was certain I’d completely wrecked this Alice + Olivia sweater knit, found on the top floor of Mood Fabric’s NY location. For this summer girl, Mood’s magical top floor is one of the few reasons to celebrate the drop in temperatures.¬†(Though this yardage was found in-store, here’s some¬†sweater knit offerings¬†if your fingers are doing the walking!) Cold weather. Short days. UGH. Invariably, my summer-lorn mindset […]

A Long Cardigan in Italian Wool Jersey

While winter is definitely not over here in Seattle, we are finally getting our first hints that it’s on its way out. Our¬†crocuses have come up, and our¬†daffodils are not far behind. The days¬†are in the 50s (Fahrenheit, obviously!) with a¬†bit more sun than in December and January. To celebrate, I wanted to make a warm cardigan to throw on for those days when a coat just wasn’t necessary. I wanted the cardigan to be versatile, so I decided it should be in¬†a solid neutral that I didn’t already have in my closet. I ended up going with this brown […]

Cozy Knit Separates

Hi Everyone! I hope January has been treating you all well. ¬†I have to be honest with you, I feel as though this outfit is the personification of the January Blues, and for that I am sorry. It basically says “yes, I put on clothes today, but just barely”. ¬†But, you know, I feel like a wardrobe needs those kinds of outfits just as much as it needs party dresses and power suits. Because we all have days where we feel kind of ‘blah’ and there is nothing better on those days than crawling into forgiving jersey and blankety jackets. […]

Chunky Sweater Cardigan

I hate knitting. I admire those of you with the patience to do it, but, as Ruggy often reminds me, I have zero patience. INDEED, SIR! When I picked up the bamboo needles years ago, most of my projects were made for Ruggy! I might not sew for my man, but oh, the knitted man-wear of years past…the hats! The scarves! One, done quite questionably up in white cashmere, as requested! (Don’t ask.) And the icing on the cake, a turtleneck sweater, sized to fit the state of Texas! SO MUCH PATIENCE!! SO LITTLE PAYOFF!!! Well, unlike those long lost, […]

Warm Winter Whites!

‘Twas five days before Christmas and all through the yard the creatures were glowing and waving at cars. Greetings, Dear Readers! I’m not sure when I’ve had so much fun sewing. Dreaming of a white sweater set, I ordered this Italian Cream Wavy Blended Wool Knit from Mood Fabrics. It is a very stable knit and slightly heavier than what I was expecting, but when it arrived I knew it would be compatible¬†with the furry trim in my stash. Mood also has quite the selection of faux fur trims here. My pattern is McCall’s 6844, View B¬†, an easy and […]

End-of-Summer Men’s Pants, Shirt, & Cotton Cardigan

The summer is coming to a close, alas! At this time of year I’m focused on sewing things I can still wear in the heat but which can carry me over into the cooler days to come.¬† I’m about to go on vacation and the weather in Cape Cod this time of year is mighty variable. Here’s what I made to take with me: Last year I sewed a shawl-collar cotton cardigan out of a beautiful blue sweater knit I found in Mood Fabrics in NYC.¬† At the time, I purchased the same knit in a sandy-beige colorway and it […]

Colorful Spring Separates!

Last month, I spent a long weekend in NYC. Since I’m a practical person with adult priorities, this meant that I spent 2 days shopping in the Garment District, with most of my time being focused on the Mood Fabrics flagship store. Don’t even judge me. Wait until I show you what I got my hands on, first. Do you see that navy and white striped fabric??? Ok, go ahead and judge. I’ll wait. As much as I love ordering from the Mood Fabrics website from the comfort of my own home (and in the comfort of my underwear, because, […]
