Braided Maxi Dress
Hey Y’all! It’s a long weekend here in the US, and most everyone is out enjoying the sudden jump to summer temperatures. For me, that doesn’t mean “Beach” so much as it means “Concrete Rooftop,” but hey– it’s sunny. It’s warm. I’LL TAKE IT.
I am SO happy to be in maxi dress weather! I had a completely different garment planned for my May Mood post, but this jumped queue when the thermometer merrily climbed above 80.
Favorite season, favorite fabrics! Viscose jersey is another one of my loves– much like Rayon, it feels like you’re draped in your own personal air conditioner. I found this gorgeous print at Mood Fabric’s NY locale, matter of fact they had two color ways last I checked. If you’re in town, run-don’t-walk. It’s loverly. (Don’t feel left out if you’re shopping online– there are a bunch of choices here, and they’re on sale for the weekend!)
So, this dress. I draped it one cold morning, as a sort of column dress, then went back in and added godets to the CB, CF, and sides seams, starting at about mid-hip height, to give it more volume. Why did I ever think I would not want swish-ability? The cold start to spring must have been affecting my noggin.
Not that my noggin is especially thoughtful when it comes to sewing plans in general. When I’m draping fabric, I think a bit about where I’m going, but not enough to avoid backtracking, if you know what I mean. I knew I wanted to use the scraps for a braided trim, but I didn’t know where they’d end up past enclosing the neckline…
THEY ENDED UP ERRRRRRRYWHERE.
Alrighty, I’ve got to go get some summer on! I mean, spring has pretty much been given the boot, yes?
Happy weekend, y’all!
