Watercolor Floral Cotton Sateen

It’s clear that I love floral prints.  In recent months I’ve ordered several yardages of bright, bold floral prints.  My favorite, so far, for 2015 is Mood multi- color watercolor cotton sateen.  (Too bad it’s already sold out.)  The colors warm my skin giving me a summer glow.   Mood has a huge selection  of floral prints to pick from if this is not your favorite color.  My dress is completely lined with Mood’s mint -mechanical stretch polyester crepe de chine.  I regularly surf  Pinterest looking for inspirational garments.  I found this dress early summer and I knew I’d make […]

Feathers and Flowers – Simplicity 1103

Feathers not flowers!  At first glance of this colorful summer print, you think flowers.  I liked the placement of the feathers and decided to order two colors of this print, with the second one being the black, teal, red, and green.  This stretch cotton twill is light and breezy.  It has a smooth hand and sews up with no problem; easy breezy.  Don’t let the audacious print intimidate you.  It’s perfect for summer dresses, tops, and pants. Some people believe that less is more.  I believe it depends on how the “more” comes together to complete the desired look.   I’m […]

Boldly Waiting for Spring in Red and White Cotton Print

Oh My, I would love for spring to come and stay in Chi-town for at least a week.  But I guess Chicago weather is what it normally is.  We have two seasons:  summer and winter.  The week before Mother’s Day we had temperatures in the 80’s.  But on Mother’s Day is was cold and damp. I was ready to show off my big hat and new dress when all hopes were dashed by the cumulative clouds and the strong trade winds of my fair city. But I braved the chill to take a few photos on Monday and Thursday.  This […]

Navy Reptile Print Brocade

Spring has sprung in Chi-town! I’m so glad the sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom. I cannot believe an entire month has past since I last blogged. I’m happy to be back. For spring, you would think that I would sew brighter colors to welcome the new season. But I couldn’t resist this beautiful navy reptile print brocade. This fabric is lightweight and falls gracefully around the body. It is perfect for the dress I planned to make for my daughter. I purchased the fabric last fall; it’s no longer available but Mood has a nice […]

Spring Fling with Supreme Neoprene

I’m so pleased with this project. What better way to start my spring wardrobe than with a supreme neoprene. I began my hunt for it after I saw a neoprene dress made by Ms. Erica B. Three weeks ago, I found it, the perfect, smooth neoprene. At first glance I knew I had to have this audacious, attention getting print. I didn’t need a swatch to know this fabric was a winner; good quality and sews like a dream. Too bad it’s all sold out. Not to worry, Mood has a good selection of neoprene in stock. Neoprene is on […]

Fighting the Chill of the Chicago Winds in Mood Chocolate Double Knit – McCall 6996-A

Chicago winters should never be taken lightly.  The arctic blast is brutal, and lasts longer than the average North American winter.  Baby, it’s cold outside!  Everyone needs an extra layer under a warm coat to protect them from the wind and snow. Mood has a nice selection of cozy fabrics, here and here.  For a warm cardigan, I chose this insulated chocolate cotton poly double knit to help shield me from the chilling winds.  This textiles sews without any problems.  I paired it with McCall 6996 View-A.  It is described as Misses’ jackets and belt:  close-fitting, unlined jackets have raised […]

Multicolor French Cotton Jersey – Katherine Tilton Top/Butterick 5925

Happy New Year all! It’s been such a long time since I’ve posted on the Mood Sewing Network. I’m very happy to be back! Today I’m showcasing an unusual fabric, multicolor french cotton jersey (FC19834). At least it’s unusual for me. I found it months ago while searching the Mood online store. It has two layers of fabric fused together. The top layer has a burn out affect with some parts of it unattached to the under layer. Too bad it is no longer available, but there are other options to chose from. I paired this unusual textile with a […]

Holiday Brocade

Long, long ago back in… July, this beautiful brocade caught my eye.  The rich jewel tones sparkled against my brown complexion.  I saw the perfect holiday dress.  I bet you’re thinking, holiday dress in July?  Yeap.  I wanted it to be ready when for the first big holiday event rolled around. Typically, I make myself a birthday dress.  And that dress is usually white or off-white.  My birthday falls on the week of our annual Women’s conference.  This year I wanted to change it up a bit.  No white dress for me.  This jewel toned […]

Comfy Weekend Casual with Viscose Jersey and Cotton Twill

I guess by now you can tell that I love Mood’s selection of twill.  They come in a variety of fibers, colors, and weights.  They sew like a dream and are perfect for pants, jackets, dresses and skirts. I’m still working on beefing up the ole weekend casual wardrobe.  So I chose Steven Alan medal  cotton-lcyra twill for a relaxed pair of pants (Butterick 6028).  This fabric has a soft hand similar to linen with less wrinkles. I paired the brown abstract Missoni-esque jersey print for another version of Simplicity 1317.   Let me start with the review of Simplicity […]
