Hearts on Hearts – Mood Playful Jersey Knit Kwik Sew K4028

Worn with Simplicity faux leather leggings S1372 Today I’d like to showcase a lovely light weight jersey knit, Charcoal Hearts Poly Jersey Gray/White Hearts.  The print is exactly as it’s name states.   It’s perfect for a fun, funky top or a cute little summer wrap dress.  The hand is smooth and soft, the drape has a little more body than what you’d expect in a light-weight. I can’t take credit for picking this one.  My daughter asked for it and chose Kwik Sew Knit Top K4028, View B.  This was an extremely easy sewing project.  I was done in [...]

Fit and Flare Brown Bows Dress

Spring is almost here! What better way to start the season than with dress.  By now I’m sure you’ve noticed that my favorite thing to make is a dress. Last month I decided to “line them up” for the Spring/Summer sewing party that I scheduled with myself.  This is a solitary event that I planned for myself in hopes of getting back to spending more time in my sewing room.       This is the second dress posted for the March.  The fabric is another lovely fabric purchased from moodfabrics.com, brown bows printed on a cotton.  It is a [...]

Valentino Inspired Dress with Black/Malaga Floral Roses Jacquard

Plain and simple:  there is nothing like a beautiful piece of fabric.  Just the mere fact that it is gorgeous makes you imagine how proud you feel to wear something made of it. This is the case with Mood’s Black Malaga Floral Roses Jacquard and Eggplant Polyester Lining.  The pairing of these two fabrics was a winning combination for my latest dress.   This jacquard is rich and luxurious, the pattern is intricately woven with a glossy under tone.  It has a smooth hand, unlike most brocades, but just as radiant.  The lining is perfect for [...]

McCall 7465 and Mood Reptilian Modal Jersey

M7465 – Not the best picture – It’s freezing outside.   M7465 – Yes it is starting to snow and I’m freezing   I love animal print fabric.  Mood Fabrics is a great store to find all kinds, from birds on twill to luxury leopard faux fur.    On one of my hunts for something green or teal, I found this beautiful  teal/oak leaf reptilian modal jersey,  This lightweight modal jersey has a very soft hand and is perfect for a simple dress, top or even lounge wear. I decided to make a simple pullover dress, McCall 7465, which I [...]

Vogue 1232 – Not Your Typical African Wax Print Skirt

This was a fun project.  I enjoyed researching possible skirt styles and the sewing process.  For months I’ve thought about making something with a African wax print fabric.  So when I received the e-mail  about the January challenge, it was a welcomed surprise.  Perfect in that it would help me to decide on a print waxed cloth garment. My print, of course, was this beautiful orange, green, and blue clothe with a diamond motif.  The fabric was so easy to work with. It presses with the slightest of ease.  I actually finger pressed the hem as I sewed it [...]

Ralph Lauren Blue Nights Stretch Denim In Body Hugging Ginger Jeans

What better way to show off your body hugging Ginger jeans than a day at the Art History Museum of Chicago to see the Mainbocher Exhibit.   The Haute Couture Club of Chicago field trip took place of December 4th where several club members showed off their Ginger jeans. I was happily sporting my new pair made with Ralph Lauren blue nights stretch denim from Mood Fabrics.  I ordered five yards, enough for two pair and than some.  This is a great denim to work with.  It has just the right amount of stretch for a great fitting pair of [...]

Red Is One of My Favorite Colors – Vogue 8871

Every once in awhile I inventory my closets to see what needs to be retired and what needs to be added.  I noticed that I only have only red dress in rotation.  That was kind of odd, since red is one of my favorite colors.  So I decided it was time to add a little warmth to my wardrobe. This is the perfect time.  The holiday season is around the corner, and I may as well get a head start.  So I began with a simple princess seam red dress.  Vogue 8871 is perfect:  it’s simple; it’s fit and [...]

Transitioning to Fall In Oscar De La Renta Checkered Coat

Transitioning to Fall in Chicago can be a mixture of three seasons on any given day.  We could start with cool, crisp sunny morning.  By mid-day it’s hotter than July.  Then early evening, it’s cloudy and raining.  We are so lucky.  It’s not every day that this happens.  Most days it is one or the other.      The good thing is we experience every season, which gives us opportunities to wear many different styles and weights of clothing.  I’m happy to have many coats of all weights and styles.  My new  Oscar De La Renta Checkered coat [...]

Soft Bisque Solid Viscose Jersey – Simplicity 8131

Mood’s viscose jersey is so soft and comfy.  It feels like you are wearing pajamas.  This lovely fabric comes in five dreamy colors.  Something for every complexion.  I chose soft bisque; it’s a perfect neutral that can be paired with almost any color.         I used Simplicity 8131 to make this top.  The pattern is for woven fabrics, but works well with this light weight knit fabric. I don’t always follow the recommended fabrics.  Making my own clothes gives me the freedom to choose my own fabric and pattern combinations. This pattern is described as:  misses’ pullover [...]
