The Neutral Staple Coat — Italian Tan Angora Wool Coating

I have wanted a tan, wool coat since forever.   Last year I decided to move this coat to the top of the list after I stumbled upon this gorgeous Italian Tan Angora Wool Coating.  It is exquisite.  Perfect for the classic silhouettes as well as the oversized boyfriend coat.  I wish Mood had this coating in every colors. Please forgive the frown, the sun was very high. The surface is super soft with a brush-like hand.  The drape is a little stiff; but no matter, it is the perfect match for Butterick 6385.  Tan is the perfect  neutral to […]

Chinese Red Double Cloth: Great Fabric, Wrong Pattern Choice Vogue 1525

I seriously debated this Rebecca Vallance outfit, Vogue 1525.  When the pattern was first published, I thought about purchasing it.  But then I thought; “No this isn’t the look for me.”  After seeing it made by others, I thought maybe it will work for me. Well, throughout the entire process, I had doubts about the look on me.  In hind sight, I realized I should have simply made a muslin.  It would have told me a lot about how this outfit would look on me. Over the weekend, I tried it on again.  I think it’s the crispness of […]

Vogue 8921 In Black-Metallic Gold Foil African-Inspired Stretch Velour

Happy New Year! This is one of four projects that I’d hoped to finish before the end of 2017.  I barely made it finishing the hem on December 30th around mid-night.   This fabric is definitely the speaker.  No need for a lot of details to show it off.  So I decided to make another version of  Vogue 8921, view C, the first time I used this pattern was in 2014. Forgive if the photo quality is not the best.  It is brutally cold in Illinois.  So no outdoor picture.  No way, no how. My goal was to have this dress […]

Little Black Dress in Rag & Bone Black Polyester Crepe – Vogue 9239 View F

OMG!  It’s been such a long time since I last blogged.  I’ve been struggling with projects and time to write it all down to share it with you.  Finally, today I was able to get a few pictures, some not the best quality, but good enough to show you my latest dress. Months ago, I came up with the notion of making some solid color dresses.  As I look through my wardrobe, I decided that I didn’t have any “new” solid black dresses.  So I search the Mood online fabric store and found this beautiful Rag and Bone black polyester […]

White After Labor Day

When I was growing up, wearing white after Labor day was one of the biggest fashion faux pas.  These days people are wearing whatever anytime of year.    Fashion is anything at anytime of year!  Believe it or not, I’m still a little jaded when it comes to certain fashion faux pas. Today’s post is about two white fabrics that I purchased this summer from Mood Fabrics:  Helmut Lang Optic White Tissue Weight Cotton Poplin  and Soft White Stretch Blended Cotton Jacquard.  Both textile were great to work with.  There is something special about working with natural fibers.  Cottons are […]

Sunny Blue Sky Striped Cotton Chambray – Simplicity 1371 and Simplicity 8389

July is the peak of summer. I love that the days are long and the sun shines so bright.  What I hate is the humidity and the extreme temperatures, and everyone has the AC set to “North Pole”.  So it can be a struggle trying to figure out what to wear. But if you plan to be outdoors, light and airy clothing is the way to go! I purchased this lovely Blue Sky Striped Cotton Chambray a few months with the thought of making a shirt.  When I pulled it from the packaging, I quickly changed my mind and decided […]

Blast from the Past – Paisley Sateen Shirting – McCall 7575

Sometimes, the “ole school” in me comes shining through.  Even in my fabric picking.  Remember, way back in January when I came to New York to visit with my sewing friends.  Our first stop on our fabric shopping spree was at Mood.    I bought two yards of this gorgeous paisley print sateen, and I knew exactly what I was going to make. I was seriously, hoping that it was available at the online store and it is.  Appropriately named:  Pacific Green Paisley Printed on Corded Cotton Sateen.  It has a little stretch to it with a soft hand.  This […]

Bold Floral Jersey and Vogue 1250

There is no question about the popularity of Vogue 1250.  This easy dress stormed the internet in 2011.  dozens of bloggers and sewists posted pictures of they versions on various social media platforms.  This is the fourth time I’ve made it.  My other dresses, retired now, are posted  here, here, and here. So, of course, it was time to make a new dress.  And I made it with this beautiful, bold but lightweight Italian floral jersey from Mood.  You can find it here at the Mood online store. It’s available in three color ways.  This breathable jersey has 4-way stretch.  It’s very light […]

Gold Stripes and Ivory Creme – Vogue 8747 and McCall 5818

I’m so happy to final post about this shirt that I made with Mood’s beautiful Italian Amber Striped Cotton-Rayon Shirting.  This is one gorgeous textile.  And I’m not just saying that because I’m a Mood blogger.  This is a definite must have fabric; you should get it!     The title color is “amber”, but I call it gold.  The online photo does not show the richness of the colors nor does it show the luster.  The sheen is not gaudy like some ultra shiny satin fabrics.  It’s luminous with gives an air of sophistication.  The striped pattern […]
