White hot leather mini!

Why hello there! I hope everyone’s been enjoying their autumn, and you’re all gearing up for some Halloween festivities this week! I’ll probably be hunkering down at home, donning sweatpants, and curling up with a giant bowl of popcorn and some knitting to watch a lame, not-so-scary scary movie (because I’m a giant wuss). We are just party animals over here! I’ve been pretty excited that the weather here has decided to cool down just a smidgen so I can start pulling out all the lovely, heavier weight fabrics I’ve been hoarding since late summer. I was absolutely ecstatic to see [...]

Pink Marc Jacobs Jumpsuit

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying your early autumn (or spring, depending on your hemisphere). Here in the Land of Endless Summer (a.k.a Texas) I’m still enduring the heat and humidity. Honestly, I can take the high temperatures, it’s the mosquitos that are driving me crazy! However, as the weather hints at cooler days ahead I’ve decided to celebrate with a fun, and gratuitously girly make! One day while I was trolling the Mood Fabrics website (like you do) I decided to venture into a new-to-me territory - polyester. I’ve always avoided synthetic fabric because of the heat and humidity issue [...]

Blue and White Thakoon

When confronted with large prints I feel like sewists usually fall into one of two camps. You either opt for a simple silhouette to pair it with so the whole thing doesn’t become too overwhelming, or you go for an equally statement making design and let the print and style duke it out. Winner takes all? Or perhaps the battle simply swallows whoever was foolish enough to attempt the pairing in the first place! Well, whatever, I fall into the latter category. This Thakoon Amparo Blue and White Viscose Jersey from Mood Fabrics online is the stuff of dreams.  It’s [...]

Embroidered Linen Skirt

Hey gang! We are really in the dog days of summer here in East Texas, with temperatures hovering near triple digits.  In heat like this, there’s really no way to stay cool – honestly, I’ve given up trying! Instead I just put on a pretty outfit that makes me smile, even if I am a wilting flower well before noon! This month’s make for the Mood Sewing Network was one of those times when my first glance at a fabric immediately inspires a whole outfit, complete with lipstick colors and hairstyle. It’s rare that this happens to me, but when [...]

A Classic Shirt in Italian Cotton

Hi there everyone! Let me introduce you to my handsome husband, Nick (Nick, meet the Mood Sewing Network – Mood Sewing Network, meet Nick!) This month I have been practicing some selfless sewing.  I don’t often sew for my fellow, but he had a birthday this past month, and I’ve also discovered that sewing for someone else is a great way to work through those creative blocks which have been plaguing my sewing room the past few weeks. I generally have a hard time picking out fabrics for Nick, and he’s not the biggest fan of accompanying me to fabric [...]

B(l)ack to Basics

Hey everyone! I have had nothing but wardrobe basics on the brain for the past month. After all, one can make only so many fun dresses before you’re left standing in front of your closet on a random Tuesday morning, naked, with nothing to wear! (No? Only me?) So this month, I bring you the ever-so-humble jeans and a t-shirt combo – in all black. Because black is always the new black. This is my fourth pair of handmade jeans, and I swear they just keep getting better! For this pair I used a black, medium weight denim with a bit of [...]

Floral Silk Dress for Spring

Well guys, spring has definitely sprung around these parts! And I for one could not be happier about it! This time of year I tend to have one thing and one thing only on my mind – silk dresses. Making them. Wearing them. Living in them for the next nine months… That and long, lazy, bike rides. Preferably paired together. At sunset. Sigh… paints quite a picture, doesn’t it? This month I was irresistibly drawn to this gorgeous floral crepe de chine from Mood Fabrics online. Silk crepe de chine is one of my all-time favorite fabrics to sew with, and to wear. [...]

Summery Separates Inspired by Rachel Comey

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing well today, the very last day of March! March holds a special place in my heart because it is my birthday month (and the majority of my family’s birthdays as well) and this year was even more fun because I got to try my hand at my first ever sewing challenge with the Mood Sewing Network! When we were given the task to choose a designer and make a completely unique look inspired by their 2014 spring runway collection I was pretty psyched – and a little nervous! This felt like being back in [...]

Wool and Leather Coat

Hi Ya’ll! I’m very excited to show you my newest make for the Mood Sewing Network! I know everyone is clamoring for spring, and the last thing you want to look at is another reminder that it’s still, alas, winter, but bear with me here because I’m really excited about this coat!   I actually spotted and fell in love with this Oscar de la Renta wool coating from Mood Fabrics’ online store before I became a Mood Sewing Network blogger.  It’s basically my dream coat fabric. It’s double faced, so it has a gorgeous weight to it, and it’s plenty [...]
