Late Summer Separates

Hello everyone! Happy Autumn! Here in Texas it still feels very much like summer, except that the days are getting just a smidgen shorter.  Thus, why I’m titling this post “Late Summer Separates” rather than “Autumn Separates”. This month I’ve been all about easy, casual separates that pair well with the rest of my wardrobe and can be easily transitioned into cooler weather with a sweater and boots.  Possibly not the most exciting of makes, but they are the kind of thing I love adding to my closet as I get a ton of mileage out of them. Up first […]

Chartreuse Summer Sewing

Phew! It was so hot when I was taking these photos!! Miraculously I look fairly cool and collected, but trust me, friends, I was anything but! My serene countenance has everything to do with this Month’s Mood Sewing Network make. This dress makes me feel like a Summer goddess, y’all! I bought a couple generous yards of this Limeade/White Tribal Leaf Print Viscose Crepe from Mood Fabrics online a few months back, thinking it might make a nice maxi dress one of these days.  It was actually a bit of a funny purchase for me because I can honestly say, prior to this […]

Casual Summer Separates

Phew! Is it just me, or has July really flown by in a steamy wave of hot, sticky, summer days? Seriously, where did this month go?! Honestly, I can’t complain, I spent a whole week of this month vacationing with my family in Disney World – Mom, Dad, sister, two brothers, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, and six nieces and nephews all under the age of 8!!! It was the absolute best kind of chaos imaginable. Of course, me being me, I decided I had nothing to wear for said vacation and that I needed a whole new summer wardrobe a smooth 5 […]

A Monochromatic Beach Look

Hello, and happy almost July! We’re definitely in the thick of summer now! One of the many perks of living in a beach town is that I feel completely justified in treating myself to some new handmade swimwear every year. Fresh swimming duds are definitely a wardrobe necessity for me! I actually began stashing some swimwear fabric earlier this year for this summer’s suit. I’m always drawn to patterns, and even more so with fun garments like a bikini. This Black/White Broken Glass Digitally Printed Tricot from Mood Fabrics online caught my eye with its modern print and monochromatic palette. It’s […]

A Marble Print Dress

Hi Everyone, and happy May! It’s getting to be that time of year when I live in dresses.  There’s nothing better on a hot, sticky day than throwing on an easy, breezy dress and a pair of sandals, and that’s exactly the type of garments I’ve been interested in sewing lately.  In my climate I can really never have too many sundresses! This month for the Mood Sewing Network I decided to delve into this scrumptious Dusty Turquoise/White Marble Rayon Print from Mood Fabrics online.  Rayon challis is one of my favorite fabrics to wear. It has many of the same […]

Bright Floral Top for Spring!

Hi Everyone! I hope if you’re in the northern hemisphere you’re starting to feel the presence of spring! Here in my little corner of Texas we like to skip the whole transitional season thing and move right into summer.  After living here for 6 years I’ve finally resigned myself to this and just accepted the fact that I shouldn’t become to invested in cold weather sewing.  The truth is I will always get much more wear out of an extensive warm weather wardrobe than I will wool coats – no matter how fun they are to sew! This month I […]

Kitty Cat Print Shirtdress!

Hello everyone! And happy last day of March! Please excuse my frizzy hair and general unkempt-ness in these photos.  Our weather of late has decided to be mild, but sticky, overcast, and permanently threatening rain, but never delivering – like living inside a cloud. Good for the plants, but not so great for looking polished and put-together! But that’s ok! Frizzy hair and melting makeup can’t put a damper on my enthusiasm for this new dress! March is my birthday month and I always like to work on something a little extra special as a bit of a gift to […]

An Abstract Wrap Dress

Hey friends! Hope everyone is having a great February so far.  It’s been such a mild winter here that I’ve pretty much given up on cold weather sewing and have begun to work towards spring.  However I have a few more transitional items to share with y’all before it’s all said and done! I’ve been on a mission to add some long sleeve dresses to my wardrobe for the cooler months, and this most recent make for the Mood Sewing Network is my latest attempt! I’m always drawn to prints when I fabric shop – sometimes the weirder the better! […]

Cozy Knit Separates

Hi Everyone! I hope January has been treating you all well.  I have to be honest with you, I feel as though this outfit is the personification of the January Blues, and for that I am sorry. It basically says “yes, I put on clothes today, but just barely”.  But, you know, I feel like a wardrobe needs those kinds of outfits just as much as it needs party dresses and power suits. Because we all have days where we feel kind of ‘blah’ and there is nothing better on those days than crawling into forgiving jersey and blankety jackets. […]
