Silk Crepe de Chine Maxi

I can’t even tell y’all how thrilled I am to be in cahoots with who we all know are my favorite MSN ladies, Oona and Sonja. Truth, they originally planned this as a duo, in which I walked straight into that party and invited myself to be the third wheel. I can’t help it; I love being part of a Mood Fabrics sandwich. Especially when it involves Thakoon Crepe de Chine. I mean, COME ON. So, as we all know at this point – this is the Anna dress, the newest offering from By Hand London. For mine, I decided […]

Thakoon Cotton Dress for Summer

I’m sorry, but I just cannot get enough of these Thakoon cottons from Mood Fabrics. These are literally the BEST fabrics for summer, as far as I’m concerned. Thakoon is my new favorite  designer. If you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on his fabrics available at Mood, you’re in for a wonderful surprise —they’re so dreamy! This black-and-white Thakoon cotton I used here is super-soft and lightweight with the most beautiful drape. Since my pattern calls for a bit of contrast, I went with this lovely purple sateen. This one is soft and lightweight with a rich […]

Fabulous Silk Georgette Birds Dress

I am just going to preface this post with a warning: This is my VERY favorite thing I’ve ever made. Forget everything else up to this point. This here, this is the winner. I initially saw this fabric on the Mood Fabrics Instagram (which, if you’re not lurking that – WHY NOT, THEY POST THE BEST FABRICS!!). Isn’t it fabulous? I immediately called the store and had them set aside 4 yards for me. When I finally had it shipped all the way to Nashville, I was amazed at just how wonderful it was in person. The designer is Marc […]

A 40’s Wool Crepe Wrap Dress

I know, this dress looks strikingly similar to the 40s wrap dress that Peter made for his identical cousin Cathy earlier this month, not to mention I’ve already dabbled in wool crepe for summer wear, as well as a full 40’s wool crepe dress. Yeesh. Ya think it’s possible for me to branch out a little here? Nuh uh, no way. Not me. I actually bought this fabric ‘way back when I was visiting Mood Fabrics in NY. I’m sure y’all are sick of hearing about it at this point, but heyyyy I’ll be working through that stash for at […]

Polka Dot Shorty Shorts

Fair warning: I’m about to show a LOT of leg. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya 😉 I made these pin-up style shorty shorts with Mood Fabric’s Marc Jacobs polka dot linen that I bought while I was in the NY store. This stuff is FABULOUS and I really wish I’d bought the whole bolt! This is actually my second garment made using this fabric – the first being Tilly’s Miette Wrap Skirt, for which I originally bought the fabric. I had a small piece left over and I was just barely able to squeeze these shorts out […]

A Brilliant Blue Lace Trench Coat

A couple of months ago, Mood sent us a fistful of swatches to show us what they had in new for spring. Of course everything on the swatch cards was something amazing – metallic linen, chambray, Swiss dot, spring boucles, matte jersey – but what really caught my eye was this bright blue eyelet lace, simply labeled “lace outerwear.” Never mind that I couldn’t think of any use for the stuff, I HAD to have it. I mean… look at that! It’s so gorgeous and blue, and those big embroidered flowers are my favorite thing ever. The fabric itself is […]

A Flouncy Wool Crepe Pencil Skirt

When I was visiting the Mood Fabrics store last month in New York, I had no intention of even stepping foot in the wool section on the top floor. Don’t get me wrong – I love wool, and I ESPECIALLY love wool crepe, but as Tennessee rapidly approaches summertime weather at breakneck speed, I was afraid I would have little to no use for a big piece of cozy wool until much, much later in 2013. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want stuff my gorgeous fabrics away in a bin until the seasons flip – I […]

The Wild Side of Butterick 5078

Confession: This is my first crack at trying out ponte knit. Can you believe it?! During one of my fabric sprees in New York last month, Carolyn diverted my attention over to the ponte knit aisle and strongly encouraged me to bring a couple of yards home to play with. I was a little unsure at first (ponte just seems like it should be like that extra thick, extra hot polyester from the early days, yeah?), but I spied leopard print and decided to trust her judgement call. Lesson learned: trust Carolyn’s judgement. This stuff is NOTHING like the knitwear […]

Lace for A Valentine’s Day Dress

For the past couple of months, us Mood Sewing Networkers have been plotting to have a month where the entire group worked with a similar fabric. Lace was decided for March, and since I had already been lurking the lace selection and dreaming up options, I was 100% game. I was also inspired by Liz’s Macaron Lace Dress because GIRL(boy?), have you seen that gorgeousness?! so jealous. I thought it would be fun to have the dress ready for Valentine’s Day – I’m not really much of a Valentine’s person (this is like, one of maybe four Valentine’s EVER that […]
