Cozy Plaid Flannel, Yeah!

I’ve always loved the plaid flannel shirts that everyone wears when the temperatures start dropping, but the selection (at least where I live) has pretty much hovered around disappointing. Ugly plaids, strange fiber contents, weird boxy fits—do not want! Which is why I took the initiative and made my own. LIKE A BOSS! Seriously, though, have you seen the cotton flannels at Mood Fabrics lately? The red and black check I’m rocking here actually comes in five different colors—I mean, what better excuse do you need to wrap yourself in a cozy plaid cloud? Bonus—the loft of this fabric makes [...]

Polka Dot Fancypants

Dontcha just love it when you spend months looking for a specific dream fabric, then give up your search in angst, only to discover exactly what you’re looking for when you really truly aren’t looking? I mean, gah, finding good fabric can be just as difficult as finding a suitable romantic partner. Although the fabric search is usually a bit more fun When I originally got my hands on this “Peter & The Wolf Pants” pattern by Papercut Patterns, I immediately wanted to make them up in something polka-dotty. Problem is, this particular pattern calls for fabric with a bit [...]

Two Simple Knit Dresses for Fall

As much as I looove working with beautiful fabrics that require special handling and specific sewing rules, sometimes a girl just needs a simple knit dress to throw on when she wants to look classy but feel she’s wearing pajamas. Fortunately for me, Mood Fabrics has an incredible assortment of knits, from lightweight cotton to cozy wool. A little bit of everything, I like that! So obviously, I made two because one CLEARLY is not enough. I used the Lady Skater pattern from Kitschycoo for both dresses—this is a great basic knit dress, easy to customize by just changing up the fabric. [...]

Silk Crepe de Chine Maxi

I can’t even tell y’all how thrilled I am to be in cahoots with who we all know are my favorite MSN ladies, Oona and Sonja. Truth, they originally planned this as a duo, in which I walked straight into that party and invited myself to be the third wheel. I can’t help it; I love being part of a Mood Fabrics sandwich. Especially when it involves Thakoon Crepe de Chine. I mean, COME ON. So, as we all know at this point – this is the Anna dress, the newest offering from By Hand London. For mine, I decided [...]

Thakoon Cotton Dress for Summer

I’m sorry, but I just cannot get enough of these Thakoon cottons from Mood Fabrics. These are literally the BEST fabrics for summer, as far as I’m concerned. Thakoon is my new favorite  designer. If you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on his fabrics available at Mood, you’re in for a wonderful surprise —they’re so dreamy! This black-and-white Thakoon cotton I used here is super-soft and lightweight with the most beautiful drape. Since my pattern calls for a bit of contrast, I went with this lovely purple sateen. This one is soft and lightweight with a rich [...]

Fabulous Silk Georgette Birds Dress

I am just going to preface this post with a warning: This is my VERY favorite thing I’ve ever made. Forget everything else up to this point. This here, this is the winner. I initially saw this fabric on the Mood Fabrics Instagram (which, if you’re not lurking that – WHY NOT, THEY POST THE BEST FABRICS!!). Isn’t it fabulous? I immediately called the store and had them set aside 4 yards for me. When I finally had it shipped all the way to Nashville, I was amazed at just how wonderful it was in person. The designer is Marc [...]

A 40′s Wool Crepe Wrap Dress

I know, this dress looks strikingly similar to the 40s wrap dress that Peter made for his identical cousin Cathy earlier this month, not to mention I’ve already dabbled in wool crepe for summer wear, as well as a full 40′s wool crepe dress. Yeesh. Ya think it’s possible for me to branch out a little here? Nuh uh, no way. Not me. I actually bought this fabric ‘way back when I was visiting Mood Fabrics in NY. I’m sure y’all are sick of hearing about it at this point, but heyyyy I’ll be working through that stash for at [...]

Polka Dot Shorty Shorts

Fair warning: I’m about to show a LOT of leg. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya I made these pin-up style shorty shorts with Mood Fabric’s Marc Jacobs polka dot linen that I bought while I was in the NY store. This stuff is FABULOUS and I really wish I’d bought the whole bolt! This is actually my second garment made using this fabric – the first being Tilly’s Miette Wrap Skirt, for which I originally bought the fabric. I had a small piece left over and I was just barely able to squeeze these shorts out of [...]

A Brilliant Blue Lace Trench Coat

A couple of months ago, Mood sent us a fistful of swatches to show us what they had in new for spring. Of course everything on the swatch cards was something amazing – metallic linen, chambray, Swiss dot, spring boucles, matte jersey – but what really caught my eye was this bright blue eyelet lace, simply labeled “lace outerwear.” Never mind that I couldn’t think of any use for the stuff, I HAD to have it. I mean… look at that! It’s so gorgeous and blue, and those big embroidered flowers are my favorite thing ever. The fabric itself is [...]
