Warm Winter Whites!
‘Twas five days before Christmas and all through the yard the creatures were glowing and waving at cars. Greetings, Dear Readers! I’m not sure when I’ve had so much fun sewing. Dreaming of a white sweater set, I ordered this Italian Cream Wavy Blended Wool Knit from Mood Fabrics. It is a very stable knit and slightly heavier than what I was expecting, but when it arrived I knew it would be compatible with the furry trim in my stash. Mood also has quite the selection of faux fur trims here. My pattern is McCall’s 6844, View B , an easy and […]
Polka Dot Jacquard Jacket
In my last blog post, I announced a hefty challenge I am embracing for my upcoming birthday which rolls around in approximately 345 days. I plan to celebrate the new 40 with 40 new garments made by moi, and I’m beginning the challenge by combating the drab clothes that dominate my winter wardrobe. Hello color and Happy Holidays! Mood Fabric’s Green on Black Polka Dotted Polyester Jacquard caught my eye online and nearly blinded me when I opened the package – but what an antidote for winter drab! (more colors here) I paired the fabric with Butterick 6103. Whether it […]
Peacock Kaleidoscopic Neoprene!
It is said the two best days in the life of a boat owner are the day you buy the boat and the day you sell the boat. I’d like to extend the joke to writing a book…… thrilled to sign the contract, but good gosh, were we ever happy to put the manuscript in the hands of the publisher! Honestly, how do some people manage to live these beautifully balanced lives? Writing and planning another wedding tipped the scales to all work and no play. But now, I am back at play… Recently I’ve been on multiple shopping trips with Mimi, […]
Cotton Poplin with Stretch!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! You survived another year, and I made a new dress to celebrate! One of the things I look for when shopping online are fabrics that will work well together, and I had no doubts about these off-white and navy Celtic inspired stretch cotton poplins. from Mood Fabrics. Cotton poplin with the addition of spandex is a dream come true for casual Summer sewing! Crisp, lightweight and minimal wrinkling – what more can I want? Using my own pattern I sewed the bodice with the navy background poplin saving the reverse fabric for the collar, placket and […]
Coral Eyelet Dress
Do you know that the one color you should never wear for a job interview is……. This is no office dress, but thanks to Mood Fabrics, I’ve made a dress ready for our hot summer nights and ‘dressy casual’ occasions! The top layer is an Italian red coral cotton eyelet which reminded me of a Vineyard Vines dress, inspiring me to give it a try. The structure of the dress and added depth of color are enhanced from the lining. Labeled a hibiscus cotton batiste (no longer available) on the Mood website – the fabric more like a cotton poplin with stretch! Actually I prefer this […]
How’s this for a One Yard Wonder? It’s true – I made this dress with one yard of Mood Fabric’s Watercolor Clouds Digitally Printed Stretch Neoprene. There’s more where this came from too. Check it out here. I want the one with the lips if some cool blogger like Oonaballoona or Sallieoh doesn’t beat me to it 😉 Seriously, this is the best knit fabric ever…… It’s perfect for a fitted dress. I’m not even sure this is my shape, but it’s the shape of my pattern and the neoprene follows orders beautifully! My pattern is Vogue 9047, another wonderful discovery with its […]
Polka Dot Voile!
Greetings from the nation’s number one wedding destination spot, Charleston, SC! Hubs and I are in the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant, just across the bridge from Charleston. We’re staying in an inn above one of our favorite restaurants and attending a wedding in a historic home on the Ashley River. So is there anything better to wear while strolling amidst the gentle breezes and tree lined streets of this charming city than a white cotton voile tunic? The tunic was a work in progress beginning with my own pattern and this delightful polka dot cotton voile from Mood Fabrics. After […]
DVF Lace, Part II
As promised, I’m back with the remainder of the DVF Cotton Lace project. Some people are born to sew couture. It relaxes them they say…… I get that, but before undertaking a couture garment, I always take a deep breath and try to prepare myself for the time commitment couture sewing requires. To date, I have underestimated the time commitment of every project. But now it’s time to celebrate! As mentioned in my last Mood Sewing Network post, I ordered the lilac DVF cotton lace from Mood Fabrics last Spring, envisioning a two-piece dress for my daughter’s Bridesmaids’ luncheon. The dress missed […]
DVF Cotton Lace Skirt
Just a skirt?…… Not to me! When the DVF floral bordered cotton lace arrived on my doorstep last Spring from Mood Fabrics, I knew it deserved the royal treatment, but I didn’t expect this special fabric to be in queue for nearly a year. Greetings from Scottsdale, Arizona, the new hometown of my daughter and son-in-law. It’s only 2,019 miles away from South Carolina. 😉 I once heard Susan Khalje say that she could keep someone busy for an entire week sewing a pencil skirt. Now, I know what she means, for I spent one week making my couture pencil […]
