Jersey Knit Maxi Dress

So what does a 5’9″ girl do when she wants a maxi dress and she cannot find one in a store long enough? In my house, you ask Mom to make one. Meredith’s request was for a simple maxi dress out of some fabulous fabric.  I sent her right to Mood Fabrics and she created a Mood board just for her, appropriately named Meredith Maxi Dress. The Mood board is such a convenient way to gather virtual swatches for a pattern, garment type or fabric type.  Once Meredith had thoroughly searched the Mood site, she decided on Mood Fabrics’ jersey knit, which reminds me of […]

Cotton Voile Summer Top

When talking about the perfect summer fabric, I would have to say this Mood Fabrics’ Thakoon Cotton Voile is about as perfect as it gets.  I love this fabric, it is the perfect summer weight and just was so easy to sew.  In fact, I would love to buy all the fabric that felt just like this piece and sew many, many summer garments. I know when the temperature sores above 95 degrees, I want a summer top that makes you feel cool.  Right when this fabric arrived, I knew I would make it into Simplicity 2892, a pattern I have made […]

Marc Jacobs Linen-Blend Spring Coat

A tailoring project for my next Mood Sewing Network project that has been a long time coming.  The fabric was moved all around my sewing room, just waiting to be made into a fabulous spring coat.  What fabric did I select?  This fabulous Mood Fabrics’ Marc Jacobs linen-cotton. I knew right when I purchased this fabric is was going to be a coat, Vogue 8884, in fact.  The fabric seems to yell, “good-bye winter, hello, spring.”  Or in my case with the Summer solstice approaching, “good-bye spring and hello summer!”  Whichever one you say, this fabric is fabulous to work […]

Bold Stripes Jersey Dress

My plan was for a simple knit dress that would be comfortable and cool for an outdoor wedding and I found just the right fabric for a bold and bright dress.  My choice was Mood Fabrics’ Multicolor Stripe Rayon Jersey. I knew I wanted to use McCall’s 6752, the same pattern from my stripe knit top from my last Mood Sewing Network Post.  The description  of this fabric on Mood Fabric’s website states “this lightweight jersey would make a stunning top or pullover dress. ”  After reading this, I knew I had the perfect fabric in my cart. The fabric is a […]

Summertime Calls for Knit Tops: Three New Ones for Me!

A staple of my summer wardrobe is knit tops, but I try to change it up a bit with them.  If I am using a staple fabric, then I like to use a unusual knit top pattern, but if the fabric is fabulous on its own then I try to use a more basic pattern to showcase the fabric.  It was hard to decide which knits to pick from Mood Fabrics extensive online selection but don’t worry, I was able to make three choices and add several more to my portfolio for future purchases.  Some criteria for my knit tops: […]

Eyelet Border Top for Meredith

There is a saying that holds true on this sewing adventure, “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”  Which is a line from the poem titled “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns and the poem is the source of the title of Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men.  What does this literary history lesson have to do with my Mood Sewing Network post?  Well, Meredith and I had  big plans for a beautiful graduation dress for her from Mood Fabrics’ white/cream polka dots embroidery and eyelet voile (which is very similar to the blouse I made on my last […]

Dotted Cotton Voile Shirt and Rose Denim Pants

I tell you, I love the hum of  my sewing machine, it relaxes me, calms me, makes me happy.  It is just the perfect hobby and activity.   Now add to the hum of my sewing machine,  The Great British Sewing Bee playing on my laptop in the sewing room and it just doesn’t get much better than that.  As I was working on my blouse from White/Black Geometric Voile, the show just inspired me to do an even better job. I was imagining May and Patrick critiquing my garment and suggesting other options: The critiques would be positive comments on parts of […]

Seafoam Green Linen Jacket

I know you all think all Lori can make is jackets, right?  Two of my three posts have been jackets for the Mood Sewing Network. Well, I am going to up the odds to three out of four.  I do have a thing for jackets, especially in the spring, when a light jacket is just what you need for the cool, crisp air.  This time I wanted a very versatile jacket, one you could wear with so many outfits.  I also wanted to use a good color for spring, something to freshen up my closet and existing garments, so I […]

Mustard-Yellow Poplin Jacket

Lately, I have been seeing a certain color combination of navy and mustard in fashion and I have been wanting to introduce it into my wardrobe.  I found this Donna Karan mustard poplin add this stripe jersey from Mood Fabrics and now I have the perfect combination for new spring garments. At first, I was thinking a skirt and top, like this picture from my pins, but I really don’t wear skirts that much and  I wanted garments that I will wear quite often.  A jacket for spring is always a welcome addition to the wardrobe and I selected BWOF  6/2006 #104 […]
