Bold Stripes Jersey Dress

My plan was for a simple knit dress that would be comfortable and cool for an outdoor wedding and I found just the right fabric for a bold and bright dress.  My choice was Mood Fabrics’ Multicolor Stripe Rayon Jersey. I knew I wanted to use McCall’s 6752, the same pattern from my stripe knit top from my last Mood Sewing Network Post.  The description  of this fabric on Mood Fabric’s website states “this lightweight jersey would make a stunning top or pullover dress. ”  After reading this, I knew I had the perfect fabric in my cart. The fabric is a […]

Summertime Calls for Knit Tops: Three New Ones for Me!

A staple of my summer wardrobe is knit tops, but I try to change it up a bit with them.  If I am using a staple fabric, then I like to use a unusual knit top pattern, but if the fabric is fabulous on its own then I try to use a more basic pattern to showcase the fabric.  It was hard to decide which knits to pick from Mood Fabrics extensive online selection but don’t worry, I was able to make three choices and add several more to my portfolio for future purchases.  Some criteria for my knit tops: […]

Eyelet Border Top for Meredith

There is a saying that holds true on this sewing adventure, “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”  Which is a line from the poem titled “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns and the poem is the source of the title of Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men.  What does this literary history lesson have to do with my Mood Sewing Network post?  Well, Meredith and I had  big plans for a beautiful graduation dress for her from Mood Fabrics’ white/cream polka dots embroidery and eyelet voile (which is very similar to the blouse I made on my last […]

Dotted Cotton Voile Shirt and Rose Denim Pants

I tell you, I love the hum of  my sewing machine, it relaxes me, calms me, makes me happy.  It is just the perfect hobby and activity.   Now add to the hum of my sewing machine,  The Great British Sewing Bee playing on my laptop in the sewing room and it just doesn’t get much better than that.  As I was working on my blouse from White/Black Geometric Voile, the show just inspired me to do an even better job. I was imagining May and Patrick critiquing my garment and suggesting other options: The critiques would be positive comments on parts of […]

Seafoam Green Linen Jacket

I know you all think all Lori can make is jackets, right?  Two of my three posts have been jackets for the Mood Sewing Network. Well, I am going to up the odds to three out of four.  I do have a thing for jackets, especially in the spring, when a light jacket is just what you need for the cool, crisp air.  This time I wanted a very versatile jacket, one you could wear with so many outfits.  I also wanted to use a good color for spring, something to freshen up my closet and existing garments, so I […]

Mustard-Yellow Poplin Jacket

Lately, I have been seeing a certain color combination of navy and mustard in fashion and I have been wanting to introduce it into my wardrobe.  I found this Donna Karan mustard poplin add this stripe jersey from Mood Fabrics and now I have the perfect combination for new spring garments. At first, I was thinking a skirt and top, like this picture from my pins, but I really don’t wear skirts that much and  I wanted garments that I will wear quite often.  A jacket for spring is always a welcome addition to the wardrobe and I selected BWOF  6/2006 #104 […]

A Lace Dress for Paige

At Mood Sewing Network, March is lace sewing month for the bloggers.  I was discussing with my oldest daughter, Paige, what I might make for this challenge.  After a few ideas, she suggested a dress for her.  I thought it was a great suggestion and I told her to start looking at patterns and inspiration photos. Next step was the lace selection and Paige wanted a mint color lace (popular for spring).   She looked at the  incredible laces on Mood Fabric’s online shop and we knew Mood had an even a wider selection at their at their store in NYC and LA. […]

Striped Blazer

I have been looking at striped blazers for about a month now–just search “stripe knit blazer” on Pinterest and it yields many results.  From the traditional navy-white/cream to red/navy and green/navy color combination, to varying lengths to the treatment of the label/front finishes, the choices are limitless for this stylish blazer. I purchased Navy Stripes Nautical Double-faced Cotton-blend Jersey with the one thought, “I love this fabric!”  After my order came from Mood Fabrics, I noticed my navy ponte (from my first Mood Sewing Network post) matched perfectly.  That is when we fashion sewers just start planning and picturing ideas.  I looked at all the […]

Peplum Top and Trousers

You know when you see an outfit and think I HAVE to recreate this?  Well, that was my thought when I pinned this outfit.  After, Mood Fabrics contacted me to be part of the Mood Sewing Network, I knew this was the outfit I wanted to make for my debut outfit.   I have had red skinny jeans in my wardrobe for a year now but knew a wide leg trouser style would be a perfect addition.  I perfected the fit on Burda  7447 pants and widened the legs  from the knee down for more of a wide leg  look. This Burda pattern […]
