Ruffled Blouse Made With Anna Sui Silk Jacquard

How can it be the end of 2013?! This year has flown by and I feel very blessed to be part of the Mood Sewing Network. I know my sewing skills have grown tremendously, new techniques have been tried and fabulous fabrics from Mood Fabrics have been used. As I was planning my next Mood project, I realized my wardrobe was lacking a silk blouse. That led to my next project using Anna Sui Blue Sapphire Silk Jacquard. I went through several pattern options and selected Simplicity 1779, view E with the neck ruffle…. …and the long sleeves with the small cuffs. […]

Wool Bomber Jacket

This gorgeous wool denim made its way to my house recently. It’s Mood Fabrics’ Italian Wool Denim to be exact. Editor’s note: Looks like Lori may have gotten the last of this fabric, as it’s now sold out. But don’t worry, we have lots of wools suitable for bomber jackets here. The description  says this fabric is medium-weight, good for boxy tops and jackets. I had it in mind for another project to mix with a wool plaid but these two fabric were not quite right for each other. After Papercut Patterns’ Rigel Bomber came out, I knew this fabric […]

Italian Brocade Holiday Top

Every year it happens—blink and the holidays are upon us. It’s Thanksgiving week  and the official start of the holiday season. I purchased this Italian “Sequin” Teal and Silver Brocade in September with plans for a holiday top. I fell in love with the photograph and then with description, “If you love sequin fabric but shudder at the thought of sewing with it, then this is the brocade for you. From Italy, this poly fabric features a sequin design of teal and metallic gunmetal. It’s lightweight with a crisp drape, and would sew up perfectly as dresses, tops, jackets and so […]

Anna Sui Print Tie Blouse

Beautiful fabric, like this Mood Fabrics’ Black, Turquoise & Rose Anna Sui Cotton Print, requires just the right pattern. This Anna Sui print marinated on my shelf for a month before I decided on a pattern. I felt it needed to be a bit more feminine to match the floral of the print. I went with a pattern I have sewn twice before, McCall’s 6512, view B, with the tie and 3/4 sleeves. This fabric was the perfect match for this top. It drapes perfectly and presses so nicely. The one thing about this pattern is all the hand-sewing. The […]

Leopard Print Coat in Stretch Cotton Canvas

I knew my fall wardrobe needed something big and leopard, finding just the right fabric was easy while shopping online at I just put “leopard” into the search box and ta-da!, up popped this fabulous fabric: Italian Leopard-Print Stretch Cotton Canvas The pattern was an easy on for me to pick, Vogue 8884, which I had made for a spring coat back on this Mood Sewing Network post. I used the same construction techniques from the spring coat and knew the fit was good. That is such a benefit when using a pattern again. I’ve read that “leopard is the new […]

Brocade Skirt and Poly Knit Top

My plans for the gorgeous Mood Fabric’s Cranberry and Blue Wool Brocade… were twofold and meant not to be worn together: first a skirt and then jacket to be worn with the floral tie shirt from my last Mood Sewing Network item. If you’re thinking “what the floral?!” I have to tell you it looked really good together, at least draped on my dressform. Well, that fabric combination isn’t going to happen, because my blazer just didn’t work out and is now going to become a sleeveless blazer. That little speed bump in my sewing room didn’t stop me. I […]

Two Jersey Knit Casual Tops

I purchased this beautiful Mood Fabrics poly floral jersey at the first of September: I bought 2 yards with the intention of one knit top. Well, I pulled out the Renfrew top and Jalie 2921 trying to decide which one to make. Sometimes I feel like that is the hardest decision in sewing—what pattern to use? I posted my dilemma on Instagram and Carolyn was the only one to voice an opinion, which was the Jalie. Well, I cut out the Renfrew first but no worries, Carolyn, I had enough fabric to make the Jalie, too. My choice of the Renfrew, was one […]

Two Shirts for Fall

The calendar says fall is near but until yesterday no one told Mother Nature in mid-Missouri. I was sick of the hot temperatures and really getting very tired of wearing summer clothes. Do you get that way too? Feel like you are wearing the same thing over and over? Ready for a change, and ready for the next sewing adventure? New fabric weights and textures, new pattern looks? I decided to make some fall-like clothes in fabrics that would still be cool but transition to fall. My first selection was Mood Fabrics’ Raspberry-Brown Plaid Cotton Voile by Marc Jacobs For […]

Two More Tops Before Summer Fades

Summer is winding down and my thoughts are turning toward fall sewing.  I am not ready to give up summer all together, after all it is still 90+ degrees here in Missouri, but I am ready for sewing something different. I spotted this fabric right when it was added—Mood Fabrics’ Italian Teal and Black Lacy Brocade—and I had to have it. It is so gorgeous and my thoughts were a simple Grainline Scout T-shirt, that way the fabric does all the talking. Another plus was the fabric description from Mood’s site, “Has a soft hand and graceful drape, almost like […]
