Nanette Lepore Eyelet Tunic

When ordering fabric at Mood Fabrics, sometimes it takes me a long time to decide, just too many options and decisions.  Then there are other times, the fabric is just perfect and I cannot get it into my cart soon enough.  That is the case with this Mood Fabrics’ Nanette Lepore Cotton Embroidered Eyelet, it was so gorgeous on the computer screen and even more beautiful in person.     I knew I wanted to use a pattern to showcase the border scallop and a simple design that let the fabric be the showcase.  I went through my [...]

Striped Wide Leg Crop Pants

Hollywood glam, 1940′s style is how I feel wearing these striped crop pants.  I am not that good with the fashion eras but that kept popping into my head when I was taking pictures for this blog post.  I feel quite glamorous wearing this outfit.  I think it has mostly to do with the fabric, an Italian Wool Pinstriped Wool Twill.. The Mood  Website defines Wool Twill as “Twill refers to a specific weave that features each weft yarn floating across the warp yarns in a progression of interlacings to the right or left, forming a distinct diagonal [...]

Plaid Flannel Archer Shirts

For  me a winter wardrobe staple is a plaid flannel shirt and I was in need of a new one.  I went with Mood Fabrics’ Maroon/Gray Tartan Plaid Cotton Flannel and it is such a nice weight for these twenty degree days.  My go-to shirt pattern is the Grainline Archer Shirt, which I have made many times including two on another Mood Sewing Network post.   One thing I really like about using plaid is the fun you can have with the bias.  On my plaid flannels I use the yoke, front button band, cuffs and pockets are [...]

Rayon-Silk Bomber Jacket for the Holidays

I love the look of a bomber jacket and started thinking about fabric and something for the holidays.  My thoughts lead to the hot fabric right now, velvet and I headed right over to Pinterest for ideas.  I was on track as I saw several velvet bomber jackets and I knew I had my Christmas look.  My fabric is Mood Fabrics Sultan Red Soft Rayon-Silk Velvet, which is available in 7 more colors.    The pattern I went with was McCall’s 7100, which is an easy to sew pattern but the velvet did provide the challenges.     [...]

Cold Shoulder Blouse in Abstract Print

The cold shoulder look is quite trendy right now and I wanted to be part of it.  Now to tell the truth I tried it once in a knit style and wasn’t thrilled with the result at all.  This time I went with  a woven blouse look.  The pattern of choice was Simplicity 8131.  This blouse calls for soft fabrics: lawn, soft cottons and crepe de chine.  Well, I had a beautiful Mood Fabrics’ crepe de chine (poly)  and thought it might be a fun look for this style.  If you want another print or a solid or [...]

Polka Dot Fun

What do you do when fall doesn’t come around?  Well, I am just going to keep sewing for the temperatures.  We are fluctuating from 60 degrees to mid-80 degrees, so I pulled out  Mood Fabrics’ Navy Polka Dotted Rayon Challis and went to work on a great dress that I can wear now and later.       I went with Simplicity 8084 for the dress and I am in love with this style.  I have found regular shirtdresses do not do much for my straight figure but with the drawstring waist and the blouson-type  top, this one really works. [...]

Linen Woven Border Dress for Kaitlyn

Remember when it was time to transition from a college student wardrobe to a professional wardrobe?  Well, that time is now for Kaitlyn, as she will be student teaching next semester.  One day Kaitlyn asked about some of the clothes I made and one thing led to another and now she is getting some mom-made garments.  First thing was types of fabrics and what I would make with them.  That discussion lead to this Mood Fabrics’ Ralph Lauren Denim Blue Linen Woven Border Print, which I am sorry to say is sold out.  This fabric is fabulous and so fun.  Some [...]

Floral Jacket

It is August, summer is winding down and I am frantically sewing.  Particularly,  those last few summer projects I really want to finish before fall gets here.  Anyone else like that?  A floral blazer has been on my list since May and I found the perfect fabric, Mood Fabrics’ Blue/White Floral Pique.  The fabric is all cotton and was a dream to sew.  If that floral isn’t quite your colors, Mood Fabrics has so many great florals.  For the lining, I went with this aqua charmeuse but used the  matte side on my jacket.    I love the shiny [...]

Silk Twill Dress

The fabric is doing all the work in the dress, the incredibly beautiful Mood Fabrics’ Silk Twill, which I have been loving to look at since December.  Unfortunately, this particular silk twill is sold out but no worries, Mood Fabrics has a great selection of Silk Twills     I knew I wanted a simple dress for this fabric and while on vacation I did some pattern shopping.  I picked up Simplicity 8178 which looked just like what I had pictured in my head. This pattern had  nice features, pockets (always good), elastic waist for a better fit, crossover front [...]
