Italian Wool Pea Coat

What makes a great coat?  Well, I think many things but the first is great fabric and Mood Fabrics’ Italian Navy Wool Blended Coating is great fabric.  This fabric is luscious yardage that sews beautifully and worked its way into a gorgeous pea coat, Vogue 1467.  I knew when this pattern was released I wanted to make this coat in a deep, dark navy and this Italian Coating was perfect for the project.  The fabric is wool, nylon and cashmere, which is wonderful to the touch but also has loft and warmth. A sewalong was announced for this [...]

White Denim Jeans with Boxy Quilted Top

No white after Labor Day, how many times have we heard this?  Well, I am not following that ancient rule.  For two reasons…. 1.  I love white jeans, they go with anything and can go from casual to dressy with a few changes 2.  I have had this fabric since June and didn’t get my white jeans made! So let’s start with the denim, it is Mood Fabrics’ White Denim Blend and the description states cotton/polyester but it feels mostly cotton.  Now this fabric has no stretch, so I sewed my side seams with  3/8″ seam allowance, giving myself a [...]

Geometric Stretch Woven Dress

Summer is winding down here in the Midwest but occasionally it comes back with bursts of hot and humid.  I am not quite ready to move onto fall and winter sewing and knew I needed to sew up this gorgeous Mood Fabrics’ black and beige geometric squares stretch cotton woven (or you can go with the  cream and brown).  After all, this is wonderful fabric to feel and touch and I knew it needed to be a garment quickly.    I loved sewing it into this Vogue 1329 dress ( Kay Unger design). Just look at the details in the waist [...]

Geometric Column Dress

Dresses are one of those things that are so fun to make and so easy to wear.  One stop in the closet, grab a dress and off you go, right?  I love seeing all the dresses people make in a variety of fabric.  With that being said, my casual and work lifestyle isn’t one that requires many dresses, so I don’t make them often.   Now there is an exception, this summer I have needed dresses for several weddings, evenings out and some work dinners.  My wardrobe was in a sad state for dresses and I have been busy [...]

Blue and White Cotton Skirt with Pop of Red Top

Recently, Mike (the hubby) and I were heading to a casual event and I went to grab a summer skirt to wear.   It seemed like the perfect separate for  the weather and with a cute top, I would be neither over or under dressed.  Now you are probably guessing where this is going, yes, you are right.  I had no cute summer skirt.  This seems so not right, sewing skirts is a fun and quick project, right?   I went with Burda 6904, a pattern I have been wanting to make for quite some time.  The fabric is the [...]

Tuxedo Jacket and Silk Top

Summer means bright and fun colors but in reality  you just can’t escape black and white and/or cream.  These two colors are classic and always show up in fashion, plus they just go with everything.   I wear the cream/white so much better than the black so I went with a cream heavy look with accents of black for these two garments.   Well, let’s back up a bit, it all started with the blouse, McCall’s 7094, something very similar to a RTW top I have and love.  The fabric suggested was easy, a crepe de chine  and I had [...]

Confetti Tweed Jacket

I have been eyeing this gorgeous Mood Fabrics’ Confetti Cotton-Blend Tweed for about three months and in March I just knew I really needed it for spring.  My accumulation of fabric is going better than my making of garments lately but that is okay, I need some for a rainy day, right?  After this fabric arrived at my doorstep, I had time to touch, feel and admire it.  With such admiration, I needed to find a pattern.  I used to always have the patterns first and then had trouble finding the right fabric.  It is much easier to find the [...]

Designer Silk Chiffon Panel Top

Spring?  Well, here in the Missouri  it comes and goes, in fact, Mother Nature is being quite stingy with the nice days.  There is a saying here, if you don’t like the weather today in Missouri wait a few days and it will be totally different.  My plan is to be a step ahead of Mother Nature and to be ready for spring.  I ordered this gorgeous Mood Fabrics’ famous designer blue/gray striped geometric silk chiffon panel last month with plans of a flowy top.  This fabric is no longer available but no fear, feast your eyes upon these [...]

Border Marc Jacobs Maxi Skirt

Oh, the maxi skirt, where have you been all my life?  I do love this look but needed a dressier maxi in my closet and in my wardrobe.  Enter this fabulous Mood Fabrics’ Italian Marc Jacobs Border Print and the idea of a straight maxi with a nice side slit.     For my pattern, I went with McCall’s 6755 and if you check out that pattern it looks nothing like my skirt.  The McCall’s pattern has a curved piece front and back, which I did not want or need for my skirt.  I just pinned all the pieces together, overlapping seam [...]
