Striped Jersey Dress

Summer is a busy time for me and I still want to sew or should I say I need to sew.  Sewing is a passion and when I cannot get to my sewing room, I get a little grumpy!  Anyone else like that?  That being said I have a conflict in the summer besides time.  It is the great outdoors, well, really just my yard.  I love to work in my flowers and be in the pool.  To keep from being grumpy from lack of sewing, my solution is faster projects and fabulous fabrics.  I fell in love with this [...]

Stretch Cotton Terry Dress for Graduation

This coming weekend is a busy one for our family, it is a nurse pinning, three graduations and Mother’s Day.  Well, celebrations of this nature calls for a new dress for Mom.  I loved this Mood Fabrics’ Taupe/Mocha/Black/Red Cotton Stretch Terry and thought it would work great for a dress.  I want to note that even though the fabric says terry in the description, it is a lightweight knit and I don’t feel it has that terry “feel”.    The knit will be perfect for s graduation and not look wrinkled after all that sitting.     I went with [...]

Year of the Sleeve – Voile Blouse

The sleeve for Spring 2017 seems to be the trend to have and I am jumping right onto that trend with both feet arms (in this case).  I just want so many of these looks and styles, which means I will be busy sewing statement sleeves all summer long.  For this look, I went with Mood Fabrics’ Dotted Cotton Voile (sold out) but there are several Mood Fabrics’ Voiles in stock or you can look at Mood Fabrics’ Dotted Swiss for the texture of my blouse.  On another note, Amy used this same fabric for a blouse she made for [...]

Nanette Lepore Eyelet Tunic

When ordering fabric at Mood Fabrics, sometimes it takes me a long time to decide, just too many options and decisions.  Then there are other times, the fabric is just perfect and I cannot get it into my cart soon enough.  That is the case with this Mood Fabrics’ Nanette Lepore Cotton Embroidered Eyelet, it was so gorgeous on the computer screen and even more beautiful in person.     I knew I wanted to use a pattern to showcase the border scallop and a simple design that let the fabric be the showcase.  I went through my [...]

Striped Wide Leg Crop Pants

Hollywood glam, 1940′s style is how I feel wearing these striped crop pants.  I am not that good with the fashion eras but that kept popping into my head when I was taking pictures for this blog post.  I feel quite glamorous wearing this outfit.  I think it has mostly to do with the fabric, an Italian Wool Pinstriped Wool Twill.. The Mood  Website defines Wool Twill as “Twill refers to a specific weave that features each weft yarn floating across the warp yarns in a progression of interlacings to the right or left, forming a distinct diagonal [...]

Plaid Flannel Archer Shirts

For  me a winter wardrobe staple is a plaid flannel shirt and I was in need of a new one.  I went with Mood Fabrics’ Maroon/Gray Tartan Plaid Cotton Flannel and it is such a nice weight for these twenty degree days.  My go-to shirt pattern is the Grainline Archer Shirt, which I have made many times including two on another Mood Sewing Network post.   One thing I really like about using plaid is the fun you can have with the bias.  On my plaid flannels I use the yoke, front button band, cuffs and pockets are [...]

Rayon-Silk Bomber Jacket for the Holidays

I love the look of a bomber jacket and started thinking about fabric and something for the holidays.  My thoughts lead to the hot fabric right now, velvet and I headed right over to Pinterest for ideas.  I was on track as I saw several velvet bomber jackets and I knew I had my Christmas look.  My fabric is Mood Fabrics Sultan Red Soft Rayon-Silk Velvet, which is available in 7 more colors.    The pattern I went with was McCall’s 7100, which is an easy to sew pattern but the velvet did provide the challenges.     [...]

Cold Shoulder Blouse in Abstract Print

The cold shoulder look is quite trendy right now and I wanted to be part of it.  Now to tell the truth I tried it once in a knit style and wasn’t thrilled with the result at all.  This time I went with  a woven blouse look.  The pattern of choice was Simplicity 8131.  This blouse calls for soft fabrics: lawn, soft cottons and crepe de chine.  Well, I had a beautiful Mood Fabrics’ crepe de chine (poly)  and thought it might be a fun look for this style.  If you want another print or a solid or [...]

Polka Dot Fun

What do you do when fall doesn’t come around?  Well, I am just going to keep sewing for the temperatures.  We are fluctuating from 60 degrees to mid-80 degrees, so I pulled out  Mood Fabrics’ Navy Polka Dotted Rayon Challis and went to work on a great dress that I can wear now and later.       I went with Simplicity 8084 for the dress and I am in love with this style.  I have found regular shirtdresses do not do much for my straight figure but with the drawstring waist and the blouson-type  top, this one really works. [...]
