Floral Maxi Skirt

Sometimes  you just need  something floral and pretty and girly, this fabric met all three criteria and it was love at first sight.  The fabric is a Charcoal floral cotton sateen and is almost sold out. Don’t worry there is another colorway and all these other cotton sateens.  I had the pattern in mind for this floral sateen and it is Sewaholic Gabriola Skirt.  This skirt is a wonderful skirt pattern with lots of flow and bias but be warned, it needs lots of fabric.   The amount of fabric?  Well, depends on the width, 3.5 yards to 5 yards, so [...]

Linen Stripe Jacket

Linen and warmer temperatures just go together, right?  When I spotted this Rag and Bone Linen on Mood Fabrics site, I knew I had to have it.  The fabric is sold by the panel and I ordered 2 panels which was just enough to squeeze out this jacket.     Now what to make with this fabulous linen?  I found some ideas on Pinterest, mainly unstructured tops with some fun play on the stripes.  That seemed like a good idea to start but I wasn’t quite sure.  Next step was to look through my patterns and I found  Vogue [...]

Pink Twill Jacket

Yes, the grass is turning green and the daffodils are blooming and  the bushes are budding.  Spring is here and it is early!   I am so happy for the temperatures to warm up but first it is cool and wet spring days and that means a new jacket is needed.  I seem to associate spring with pastel colors especially with Easter less than two weeks away.  When I bought this Mood Fabrics’ Mellow Rose Cotton Stretch Twill, I knew  it was going to be a spring jacket, I just wasn’t sure of the pattern.  Sorry, this soft pink [...]

Saint James Ponte Dress and Long Cardigan

Spring is in the air and a cute dress is a much needed item for me.  I wanted a dress that would be a good transition piece and fun to wear.  Enter Mood Fabrics’ Navy/Ecru Saint James Ponte Knit, an amazing knit, probably one of the nicest knits I have ever sewn.  I am sorry to say it is sold out in the navy/ecru colorway but  no fear there are several other option: red/navy, ecru/gray, navy/kelly. or take a look at all the color choices     My pattern for this fabulous knit, Butterick 6207,  which has raglan sleeves, neckband, [...]

Graphic Print Tunic

Isn’t it fun when a fabric just draws you in?  That is exactly what happened with Mood Fabrics’ Indigo Peacock-Inspired Rayon Woven.  I knew I needed to make something from this fabric and a tunic was the garment I started to envision.  I went with Vogue 9151 and started looking for an good coordinating fabric.  Mixing prints is so much fun, I searched Mood Fabrics for a good match.  Sometimes online it is hard to get a good color  match for fabric as colors look different on the computer screen versus in real life!   I decided to look for [...]

A White Pintuck Tunic

I just love a white blouse and feel like it is a basic item needed for any closet but one was not found in my closet.  Time to take care of that situation and make a white blouse.  I wanted a twist on a wardrobe basic, a blouse with some visual interest.    First, I needed to find the right fabric for my blouse and went with Mood Fabrics’ White Pinpoint Cotton Shirting.  The description states a good staple fabric with a bit of crispness.     Now let’s talk pattern, I went with Butterick 6208,  a loose fitting pullover [...]

Italian Wool Pea Coat

What makes a great coat?  Well, I think many things but the first is great fabric and Mood Fabrics’ Italian Navy Wool Blended Coating is great fabric.  This fabric is luscious yardage that sews beautifully and worked its way into a gorgeous pea coat, Vogue 1467.  I knew when this pattern was released I wanted to make this coat in a deep, dark navy and this Italian Coating was perfect for the project.  The fabric is wool, nylon and cashmere, which is wonderful to the touch but also has loft and warmth. A sewalong was announced for this [...]

White Denim Jeans with Boxy Quilted Top

No white after Labor Day, how many times have we heard this?  Well, I am not following that ancient rule.  For two reasons…. 1.  I love white jeans, they go with anything and can go from casual to dressy with a few changes 2.  I have had this fabric since June and didn’t get my white jeans made! So let’s start with the denim, it is Mood Fabrics’ White Denim Blend and the description states cotton/polyester but it feels mostly cotton.  Now this fabric has no stretch, so I sewed my side seams with  3/8″ seam allowance, giving myself a [...]

Geometric Stretch Woven Dress

Summer is winding down here in the Midwest but occasionally it comes back with bursts of hot and humid.  I am not quite ready to move onto fall and winter sewing and knew I needed to sew up this gorgeous Mood Fabrics’ black and beige geometric squares stretch cotton woven (or you can go with the  cream and brown).  After all, this is wonderful fabric to feel and touch and I knew it needed to be a garment quickly.    I loved sewing it into this Vogue 1329 dress ( Kay Unger design). Just look at the details in the waist [...]
