Confetti Tweed Jacket

I have been eyeing this gorgeous Mood Fabrics’ Confetti Cotton-Blend Tweed for about three months and in March I just knew I really needed it for spring.  My accumulation of fabric is going better than my making of garments lately but that is okay, I need some for a rainy day, right?  After this fabric arrived at my doorstep, I had time to touch, feel and admire it.  With such admiration, I needed to find a pattern.  I used to always have the patterns first and then had trouble finding the right fabric.  It is much easier to find the [...]

Designer Silk Chiffon Panel Top

Spring?  Well, here in the Missouri  it comes and goes, in fact, Mother Nature is being quite stingy with the nice days.  There is a saying here, if you don’t like the weather today in Missouri wait a few days and it will be totally different.  My plan is to be a step ahead of Mother Nature and to be ready for spring.  I ordered this gorgeous Mood Fabrics’ famous designer blue/gray striped geometric silk chiffon panel last month with plans of a flowy top.  This fabric is no longer available but no fear, feast your eyes upon these [...]

Border Marc Jacobs Maxi Skirt

Oh, the maxi skirt, where have you been all my life?  I do love this look but needed a dressier maxi in my closet and in my wardrobe.  Enter this fabulous Mood Fabrics’ Italian Marc Jacobs Border Print and the idea of a straight maxi with a nice side slit.     For my pattern, I went with McCall’s 6755 and if you check out that pattern it looks nothing like my skirt.  The McCall’s pattern has a curved piece front and back, which I did not want or need for my skirt.  I just pinned all the pieces together, overlapping seam [...]

Stretch Denim is for Jeans

Making your own jeans can be intimidating but I went for it using a Mood Fabrics’ Theory Denim (sold out but here are many more to pick from – Mood Fabrics’ Denim) and the Ginger Jeans by Closet Case Patterns, which is named for Mood Sewing Network’s own Ginger Makes e   This denim pair is my third pair of pants from this pattern.  The first from a stretch twill from Mood Fabrics and the second from Mood Fabrics’ black suede cotton.  Each time I changed a couple things on the pattern and this denim pair I feel is a good [...]

Italian Wool Cardigan Sweater

Just as the song states, “oh, the weather outside is frightful” that has been the case here in Missouri.   I just need to change the words from snow to rain, cold, gloomy and damp.  With the cold and gloomy in mind, I decided it was time to make something out of sweater knit.  I went with this Mood Fabrics’ Italian Wool Flamestitch sweater knit  in the blue colorway but do note if blue is not a color for you it does come in three other colors.  This sweater knit is just the softest and so cozy, perfect for yucky weather. [...]

Red Silk Blouse – Perfect for the Holidays

Fabric and Pattern,  very important parts of constructing a garment, right?  Well, I had the perfect combination of fabric and pattern right in front of me and I kept missing it!  I purchased  Mood Fabrics’ red polka dot silk by Donna Karan and I just kept touching it and touching it.  I had purchased Vogue 1387 after seeing Erica’s gorgeous sleeveless blouse.  Then I had one of those light bulb moments – the long sleeve blouse from Vogue 1387 and the red silk would be a perfect combination.  This red polka dot silk is sold out but Mood Fabrics has a [...]

Chambray Pullover Dress

This post is all about new, a new way I decided what to sew and a new style for me. I saw McCall’s 6885 featured on an Instagram feed along with a famous designer in a very similar dress. Right when I saw that photo, I knew I had to make this dress.     Now this is the first new  for me, usually I have the fabric and I look through my patterns to see what to make. This time I was in search of fabric and of course, Mood had just the right fabric, a  Mood Fabrics’ chambray year-round [...]

Red Crossover Top

You see these everywhere, the crossover top for fall and McCall’s 6991 is the perfect pattern for this type of top.  The perfect fabric needs to be a fabric that is the same on both sides, with that in mind I went with Mood Fabrics’  Red Silk Crepe de Chine which is so gorgeous in person.  This fabric has just the right drape for this top and added so much to the success for my crossover top.     At the McCall’s blog, you will find helpful hints for  this pattern.  I used several of these to help construct [...]

Pink Pleated Dress Cowgirl Style

You know when you just see fabric and you have to have it?  That is the case with Paradise Pink and Rosewater Geometric Cotton-Polyester Jacquard (now say that three times fast!).  This fabric just kept saying “buy me, buy me” and so I did.  Initially, I was thinking some kind of pants or shorts for me but the fabric was a bit too bright for me.  I knew this gorgeous fabric would find its way to the perfect garment.  I had purchased Butterick 5781 with Meredith (daughter #3) in mind, as I knew it  was the perfect style for her, [...]
