The Capri-Blue Neoprene Mesh Dress!
When I saw this fabric, it immediately caught my attention. This is Capri Blue Nylon-Silk Neoprene I wasn’t sure about it, so I swatched! If there is every a “questionable” fabric that you aren’t familiar with — swatch first! And I’m so glad I did. I don’t think the picture accurately details this fabric. It’s a textured honeycomb patterned, capri blue neoprene material is layered on top of a pastel blue knit, combining to make a thick, three-dimensional material with a nice one directional stretch. And the fabric content is 79% nylon, 21% silk. It’s absolutely amazing. The fabric sewed well. However, […]
The Bold Magenta 2-Ply Silk Crepe De Chine Romper!
Summer is in full-effect here in the South. And cool, casual, chic and comfy looks are required. And one of my favorite summer fabrics is silk crepe de chine. I love it in everything and I can always find a garment that it’ll be perfect for.
Sporty Chic Separates
As much as a I love a beautiful dress, great separates keep my wardrobe moving on a daily basis. Sure, a dress is the epitome of one-piece dressing ease. But the ability to rework separates again and again, makes creating new outfit possibilities endless! Lately, I’ve been working on filling gaps in my wardrobe and I discovered that I need more knit tops that are wash and go and easy to throw on. And a striped nautical knit top is a perfect addition. I chose a beautiful black and ivory striped viscose fabric that was so popular that it’s sold […]
Floral and Lace Panel Dress Inspired by Clements Ribeiro
For March, the Mood Sewing Network challenge was to sew something “inspired” by the spring ready-to-wear collections with our monthly allowance. I chose a Clements Ribeiro that I saw on Net-A-Porter.com. My inspiration: Clements Ribeiro S/S 2014 I chose Clements Ribeiro because I wanted to highlight a lesser-known designer. And, I love this dress! I was drawn to the fabulous floral print and the back lace panels. As you know, a fabulous (non-knit) print for spring is hard to find. But luckily, I found this stunning black and white cotton-lycra medium weight twill at Mood Fabrics.com. Along with this beautiful […]
Transitional Basics in Beautiful Fabrics
I’ve been needing to fill in the blanks in my closet with classic “go-to” pieces for a while now. And what better time than transitional wardrobe season with classic black and white. I love white shirts and white blouses. The more interesting, the better… a not-so basic “basic” you could say. This Rebecca Taylor Vogue 1387 blouse is perfect. It’s great for layering under a jacket now and perfect on its own for the warmer months. I chose this beautiful Carolina Herrera single-ply silk crepe from Mood Fabrics because it reminded me of the original designer garment. And what a […]
A Classic Camel Hair Coat
Every year, I like to make at least one substantial coat. Last year, it was my beloved cashmere pea coat. So this year, I decided it would be a classic camel hair coat. I wanted a coat that I would love and cherish for years to come… nothing trendy at all for this project. Just timeless elegance. I picked this beautiful camel-colored 100% camel hair fabric. It’s described as “a heavy-weight camel wool with a long brushed nap. Very soft, slightly spongy.” This is a napped fabric with a raised pile. Which means it’s best to layout your pattern and […]
Holiday Glam with Black & Silver Baby Sequins Dress
‘Tis the season to be sparkling! What’s the holiday season with sparkle and shine? I’ll tell you: dull! Don’t be dull, add some sequins to your holiday (and beyond) wardrobe. My latest addition was inspired by this gorgeous black and silver abstract baby sequins fabric from Mood Fabrics. When I fell head over heels in love with this fabric, I knew I needed a simple design that would let this fabric shine (pun intended) and let it be the star. I needed a design that has a limited amount of seams, darts, pleats, pockets and set-in sleeves. This dress is […]
Shiny, Glossy, Patent-y Pencil Skirt
Everything leather and leather-ish is very popular this season. Leather is not only the new black, but the new everything and it’s everywhere. And I’ve been playing with all forms of it. While searching Mood Fabric’s index, I discovered this great Donna Karan Black Solid Faux Leather, which is a black patent vinyl with a black fleece back and I had to have it! When I bought it, it said heavyweight, so I wasn’t sure what I would make. I just knew that it looked interesting and I bought several yards. When I pulled it from the box, it was indeed […]
The Lurex Woven Peplum Blazer
This peplum blazer is made from this gorgeous Carolina Herrera novelty fabric. Stone-colored, it combines “black threads with graphite, gray with soft silvery strands, in a textured weave that can scarcely be described as medium-weight with the prettiest subtle sheen,” from Mood Fabrics. And it was perfect for this collarless jacket! When I think Carolina Herrera, my first thoughts are elegance and sophistication. So I wanted to create something that would do this beautiful fabric justice. I chose New Look 6231. Even with the pleated peplum, the lines of this jacket are simple and uncomplicated. A perfect way to highlight […]
