Tanya Taylor Viscose Print Two Piece

The fabric I used for this month’s Mood Sewing Network project was one of those that jumped straight off the page at me and I ended up ordering without a specific project in mind. It’s described as a Stretch Viscose Twill so I pounced on it as I’ve always had a good experience sewing garments with viscose in the past and often struggle to find it in interesting prints and colours here in London. When it arrived I was really surprised, but in a good way! The description on the Mood Fabrics site is perfectly accurate but it’s a really […]

Rag & Bone Blue Crepe Quart Jacket

I was really intrigued when I spotted this Rag & Bone Navy/Blue Cotton-Rayon Crepe in the new arrivals section of the Mood Fabrics website! It sounded so unusual being of a medium to heavy weight yet fluid. I’d been after something unique to make myself a biker style jacket after seeing Pauline Alice’s amazing short version of her Quart Coat so decided to take the plunge for this month’s Mood Sewing Network project and order myself enough of this to investigate. When it arrived it was kind of what I was imagining and kind of not…whatever it was it was […]

Printed Silk Maxi Skirt and Bamboo Jersey Bodysuit

Spring finally seems to have arrived here in London, which is a good job as I jumped the gun a little hoping for the warmer weather with my most recent handmade ensemble for the Mood Sewing Network! This gorgeous abstract printed silk georgette jumped out at me from the computer screen back at the end of last year and I couldn’t resist using that month’s allowance to snap up a few yards despite my plans for it being a garment more suited to the warmer months! It’s exactly the kind of organic and non-descript print that I like; to me […]

Snuggly Plaid Flannel Shirtdress

This month’s Mood Sewing Network project was all about cosy fabrics for me! The temperatures have dropped here in London over the last couple of weeks and all I want to wear is lots of soft and warm layers. I actually ordered this Blue Plaid Soft Cotton Flannel (unfortunately now sold out but there’s still a little left in red!) back in February as part of my very first MSN order but haven’t found the perfect use for it until now. I spotted the dress below on Pinterest a little while back and knew my plaid was destined to be […]

Oscar de la Renta Chiffon Dress

When I first joined the Mood Sewing Network one of the things that excited me most was having a wide variety of beautiful fabrics I’d never used before at my fingertips. I’ve really tried to challenge myself to sew with new and slightly trickier fabrics this year; so this month I decided to take the plunge and try one of the most infamously tricky fabrics to handle and gave in to my urge to snap up some of this stunning printed silk chiffon from Oscar de la Renta. I probably should have picked a slightly more straightforward garment for my […]

Colourful Canvas Cushion Covers

I’ve got something slightly different to the usual completed projects I share for you today. To celebrate the opening of Mood Fabrics NYC’s brand new showroom for home decoration fabrics the Mood Sewing Network bloggers were invited to do an extra home related sewing project for the network. I jumped at the chance to try out something new. I spotted a peak of the new store on Mood Fabrics Instagram earlier in the week and I so wish I could visit in person! I’ve been wanting to brighten up our lounge for a while now and what better way to […]

Embroidered Silk Blouse and Twill Wrap Skirt

For this month’s Mood Sewing Network project I worked with two very different fabrics to make separates. First up is the blouse, for which I used this Marc Jacobs Silk with Embroidered Dots which I’ve had my eye on for months! It’s a beautiful silk crepe and when you get close up you realise the polka dots are actually formed of dense embroidery making it wonderfully unique. I was a little apprehensive about working with a fabric which sounded like it could be quite tricky, especially for a project with some fiddly aspects, but I took my time and had […]

Water-Resistant Silk Trench Coat

I really enjoyed the challenge of making my first lightweight coat last year and had been considering making another for this spring. I spotted this Marc Jacobs Water-Resistant Ecru Dotted Silk on the Mood Fabrics website way back at the start of the year and knew it would be a match made in heaven for Sewaholic’s Robson Coat. It was love at first sight! I was a little apprehensive about working with this unusual type of fabric but I’ve been trying to push my fabric boundaries so jumped in at the deep end! I’m so pleased I did as this […]

Wool Crepe and Silk Chiffon Occasion Dress

Hello Mood Sewing Network! I’m so excited to be joining the MSN as an international guest blogger all the way from London in the UK and can’t thank the team at Mood Fabrics enough for having me. I wanted to challenge myself a little for my first Mood Sewing Network make and I’ve recently been drawn to garments with sheer inserts and panels that are so popular at the moment. So with all these beautiful new fabrics now on offer to me I decided to expand my repertoire and dip my toe into sewing with chiffon. When I say ‘dip […]
