Mood Sewing Network  |  BACK TO MOOD SEWING NETWORK BLOGGERS

Seeking New Fashion Sewing Bloggers! International Too!

Hi guys, from Meg at Mood! I’ve got good news and bad news today. Bad news: Carolyn and Haylee have notified us that they are no longer able to continue blogging for the Mood Sewing Network, because sometimes life gets in the way of sewing and blogging regularly. Sniff! We will miss them so much but we wish them the best of luck. Good news: This means two spots are now open for new Mood Sewing Network bloggers! We are looking for fashion sewing bloggers from the United States, Canada, Australia and the UK. (Those countries provide the vast amount […]

High-Waisted, Cropped Wool Trousers

Editor’s note: We’ve long admired the chic clothes made by Nikki of Beauté J’adore, and we were thrilled when she accepted our invitation to be a guest blogger on the Mood Sewing Network. Welcome, Nikki! With the temperatures now dropping into the 40’s, I can officially say fall is in full gear.  What says fall even more is a pair of high waisted cropped wool trousers. These trousers were made with this beautiful wool tweed fabric from Mood.  The fabric has a slight stretch to it which made it incredibly easy to cut and sew.  I’ve worked with wool in the past […]

The Boho Chic Ikat Maxi Dress

When I first saw this ikat jersey from Mood Fabrics, I knew it was supposed to be a maxi dress. Because this is one of those fabrics that simply speaks to you!  And it screamed, “Boho chic!”  And one with long sleeves is a great transitional garment for me.And every so often, I like an easy, palette cleansing project and Vogue 8921 fit the bill. This pattern is simple and such a perfect way to highlight the fabric and allow it to be the star. I made my usual alterations, which is to just lengthen everything! I added an inch […]

More Chado Ralph Rucci Wool Double-Knit Options

I purchased three panels of the Chado Ralph Rucci Wool double knit from Mood Fabrics NYC because initially I had no idea what I would make with it.  After deciding upon the dress, I still had yards left.  So I thought a jacket and skirt combo would allow me to play with the purple stripe that’s a main feature of this fabric.  My last post was about the dress so this one is all about the suit. I chose a jacket pattern that I’d used before – Vogue 8209 which is out of print – because the lines worked well […]

4-Ply Silk and Cotton Brocade Paneled Top

Note: This blog post originally appeared on the Mood Sewciety blog, but I wanted to share it here as well. The genesis for my latest Mood Fabrics top was an article I saw on Style.com in July about how this shade of caramel was so hot. I immediately ran upstairs to the silk department at Mood NYC, searching through bolt after bolt until I found this lovely 4-ply silk in the perfect shade. (Have you ever worn or sewn 4-ply silk? It’s a winner on both fronts, and so addictive you’ll be drooling for an entire wardrobe of 4-ply tops […]

1920’s Ladies Pajamas and Kimono

I am continuously inspired by the gorgeous shirting-weight cottons (prints and solids) available at Mood Fabrics.  Last month I used one for a men’s shirt.  This month I decided to try something different.  I was delighted to find, at the Chelsea Flea Market earlier this summer, an original 1920’s ladies pajamas pattern, Butterick 4639. I so loved the coffee brown cotton I used for my shirt in August that I decided to use what remained of it, along with a mauve cotton of a similar quality, to make the vintage pajamas.  The muted colors suit the period, I think. Editor’s note: […]

Mapping My Mood – Part Two

Editor’s note: Guest blogger Karen of the blog Did You Make That is back again, with a post about her continued progress on the dress she’s making from a fabric she got at Mood several months ago. We’re glad to have her back! As I asked in a recent blog post, can one learn patience? Well, if you’ve been waiting for updates on my travails with the Craftsy Couture Dress course with Susan Khalje the answer is a resounding – yes! I’m so sorry, readers. I did the worst a sewing blogger can. I allowed myself to become distracted by […]

Mapping My Mood – Part One

Editor’s note: We are pleased to welcome London sewing blogger Karen Ball of Did You Make That as our first guest blogger at the Mood Sewing Network. She visited Mood NYC in March of this year and we were delighted to make her acquaintance. Karen will be sharing a few posts here about making a dress with some Marc Jacobs fabric from Mood. Back in March, I travelled from London to New York and was lucky enough to hit Mood Fabrics not once, but twice. On my first visit, I spotted some plaid and glitter polka dot wool challis that I […]

Neoprene and Lace Bomber Jacket

(Greetings from Meg at Mood! The Mood Sewing Network bloggers are letting me participate in this month’s Lace Challenge. Here’s my take on lace.) Ok, I admit it. I am crazily obsessed with bomber jackets this spring. This is the second bomber jacket I’ve made in a month, and I’m working on number three right now. They’re easy to make, easy to wear, so what’s not to love? Version #2, graciously modeled above by Marianne, is made from neoprene and lace using Burda pattern 7210, available at Simplicity.com. (You can get more pattern and sewing details here on the Mood […]
