Bamboo & Cotton Stretch Fleece Sweatshirt

Ok, so, apologies in advance for posting a really boring sweatshirt as my month’s project. However, I think I may have just found my new favorite fabric at Mood. AND they have plenty of colors still in stock (although as of this posting, only 2 yards of this particular green)! It’s a Christmas Miracle! In all seriousness, though, I wanted to really focus on the fabric for this post. I promise it’s a really good one and worth the praise! I found this Moss Bamboo and Cotton Stretch Fleece on the Mood Fabric’s website a few months ago, via swatch […]

Mohair Cardigan for my SIL!

I’m a big fan of shawl-collar cardigans! The neckline is universally flattering.  They’re warm and cozy, easy to get on and easy to get off.  And there’s no pulling anything over your head, which I’m not a fan of, despite having very little hair myself. (!) I made one for my mother a few months ago, and this month I made one for my lovely sister-in-law, Prachee (up top). Instead of using a sweater knit, as I did for my mother’s sweater, for Prachee’s sweater I used a mohair blend (that nevertheless has a very a sweater knit-like hand) with […]

Ankara Blues

I’ve decided to embrace the fact that I have zero desire to sew for the season I’m in. (Whatever season we’re calling whatever *this* is now). This never-ending pseudo winter is making me blue! Of course in fashion, looking seasonally ahead is the norm. Spring is all over the runways and I am going to be SO READY. This is one of three wax print maxi dresses I’ve gleefully churned out over the course of February. I had plans to unveil them all in a massive, colorful post, but the short month had me scrambling to get shots of just […]

Oscar de la Renta Stretch Canvas Shirtdress

I had a difficult time believing this whimsical Oscar de la Renta print is canvas, but now, not only am I believer – I’m a canvas convert. Mood Fabrics offers quite the collection of canvas for both home decorating and apparel sewing. I knew I’d like any fabric designed by Oscar de la Renta, but I was surprised by its light weight and smooth texture. While this stretch canvas would work well with several garments, including jeans and jackets, I chose McCall’s 6520, a shirtdress pattern I’d sewn once before. I selected View D. Views C & D are designed […]

Knits for the Gold

Have you been watching the Olympics?  I have a bit and that got me thinking, knit fabrics are a bit like the gold in the sewing world, or at least to me. This transition period in fashion, moving from winter to spring, is always hard for me.  I am not ready to stop sewing winter garments and don’t know for sure what I want to sew for spring.  So for my first garment for this post, I went with a new release pattern, True Bias Nikko Dress and used this Mood Fabrics’ waffle knit.  I love this fabric and […]

The Neutral Staple Coat — Italian Tan Angora Wool Coating

I have wanted a tan, wool coat since forever.   Last year I decided to move this coat to the top of the list after I stumbled upon this gorgeous Italian Tan Angora Wool Coating.  It is exquisite.  Perfect for the classic silhouettes as well as the oversized boyfriend coat.  I wish Mood had this coating in every colors. Please forgive the frown, the sun was very high. The surface is super soft with a brush-like hand.  The drape is a little stiff; but no matter, it is the perfect match for Butterick 6385.  Tan is the perfect  neutral to […]
