Olive Modal Jersey Ebony Tee Dress

Hi there, guys! I hope you’re staying warm this winter and sewing yourself up some goodies! I’ve been working on a couple of slow, long-term projects that have left me feeling a bit antsy and itching to make something instant gratification that I could enjoy and wear¬†now. I don’t know about you, but when I think ‘fast’ and (nearly) ‘instant gratification’ in regards to sewing, I always think of jersey. Luckily I had some beautiful jersey from Mood Fabrics just waiting for such a project. I bought a bunch of yards of this Dark Olive Modal Jersey awhile back with […]

New Workout Gear for the New Year!

Hello! It’s January 2018, and this month I will be sharing some workout clothes I made. My apologies in advance for being predictable and basic ūüôā I’ll admit, making workout clothes isn’t necessarily my favorite thing to sew – but it sure beats buying them! I’ve found that I prefer my gear to be neutrals like grey and black (but really, anything but pink. ANYTHING. Why are all women’s workout clothes pink, anyway??) and I love having a zippered pocket to hold my phone while I run. Both of these can be difficult to find – and if you do […]

Warm Orchid Medallions

For someone who prefers warm weather to cold weather on any given day, I’m loving winter sewing this month! One look at Mood Fabric’s¬†ultra soft black wool knit with orchid pink medallions had me wishing for freezing temperatures ?¬†This lovely¬†medium weight knit features a movable drape and is perfect for many designs. I chose the Blackwood Cardigan pattern by Helen’s Closet. This pattern is very well designed with¬†minimal excess fabric in the front and a close fit around the neck and shoulders. Its fitted shape and extra long sleeves make it perfect for wearing under jackets and vests. Having sewn […]

Cotton & Linen slubbed Shacket

I’m tempted to keep this a wordless post, so you can guess which one of us MNS’ers stitched this…because I certainly wouldn’t guess ME. In fact, I agonized over this fabric choice for about 45 minutes, on Mood NY’s magical top floor. Eric and Kway both assured me this was a beautiful fabric. I was sure they were right, but I absolutely could not convince my technicolor brain. In the end I had to take their word for it! Luckily, they were right, and it’s not for me anyway! So really what I had to do was remind myself, repeatedly, […]

Tweed Moto Jacket

So I saw this fabulous Moto Jacket Pattern,¬† McCall’s 7694 and knew I had to make it, does that ever happen to you?¬† Pattern in hand I headed to Mood Fabrics and started my search.¬† Wool tweed is what I had in my head to make this jacket and I found, Bordeaux and White Speckled Wool¬† Tweed, which is almost sold out so act quickly.¬† If this is not your colorway, don’t worry, Mood Fabrics has a great selection of wool tweeds.¬† While at Mood’s site, I went searching for a separating¬† zipper and found the perfect tan color.¬† […]

Make Way for Polka Dots!

Polka dots: do you wear them or avoid them? I have generally avoided them, though whenever I’m exploring the cotton shirting aisles of Mood Fabrics in NYC I often find myself drawn to them. But then I worry they’ll be hard on the eyes or overwhelming to my short-ish frame (I’m 5’7″), so I move on. On my last visit, however, I found what I think is the perfect polka-dotted cotton voile.¬† The dots are somewhat random, so easier to look at, while the mixed color palette — the black dots in particular — give the eyes a place to […]

Chinese Red Double Cloth: Great Fabric, Wrong Pattern Choice Vogue 1525

I seriously debated this Rebecca Vallance outfit, Vogue 1525.  When the pattern was first published, I thought about purchasing it.  But then I thought; “No this isn’t the look for me.”  After seeing it made by others, I thought maybe it will work for me. Well, throughout the entire process, I had doubts about the look on me.  In hind sight, I realized I should have simply made a muslin.  It would have told me a lot about how this outfit would look on me. Over the weekend, I tried it on again.  I think it’s the crispness of […]

Leopard print faux fur jacket

Happy New Year! I’m starting off with a project I meant to get done before the holidays, but it’s finished now and that’s all that matters! Earlier in winter, I had this idea that it would be fun to have a comfy jacket for lounging around the house on really cold days. Kind of a cardigan meets jacket. Something to wear inside, not outside. My thoughts turned to faux fur, if I could find a soft and drapey one. And Mood has the literal snuggliest faux fur ever, so that part was easy. But what to line it with? I […]

Vogue 8921 In Black-Metallic Gold Foil African-Inspired Stretch Velour

Happy New Year! This is one of four projects that I’d hoped to finish before the end of 2017.  I barely made it finishing the hem on December 30th around mid-night.   This fabric is definitely the speaker.  No need for a lot of details to show it off.  So I decided to make another version of  Vogue 8921, view C, the first time I used this pattern was in 2014. Forgive if the photo quality is not the best.  It is brutally cold in Illinois.  So no outdoor picture.  No way, no how. My goal was to have this dress […]
