Rag & Bone Blue Crepe Quart Jacket

I was really intrigued when I spotted this Rag & Bone Navy/Blue Cotton-Rayon Crepe in the new arrivals section of the Mood Fabrics website! It sounded so unusual being of a medium to heavy weight yet fluid. I’d been after something unique to make myself a biker style jacket after seeing Pauline Alice’s amazing short version of her Quart Coat so decided to take the plunge for this month’s Mood Sewing Network project and order myself enough of this to investigate. When it arrived it was kind of what I was imagining and kind of not…whatever it was it was […]

Floral Lace Bra

I love making lingerie. I never thought I would say that, but I’ve truly fallen head over heels in love with everything about the process – from planning, to executing, to wearing. It seems silly to pour a lot of time and energy into something that doesn’t get seen by the majority of the public (blog posts notwithstanding, of course ;)), but it’s actually strangely fulfilling to know that you’ve made every last piece of clothing you’re wearing down to the underwear. The process itself is also incredibly appealing to me, as it deals with a lot of tiny pieces […]

Liberty of London Cotton Poplin Summer Shirt

Summer has arrived and, with it, summer sewing! I won’t be taking a vacation for a few months yet, but hey: I can still wear clothes that make me feel like I’m on vacation — casual, loose-fitting, and with lots of visual punch. Have you heard that Mood is now carrying genuine Liberty of London fabrics?  I visited the store earlier this month and was overwhelmed by the choices available and the fantastic quality of these fabrics. I purchased two yards of this stunning cotton poplin floral in a range of rich blue shades.  You can find this very fabric […]

Coral Eyelet Dress

Do you know that the one color you should never wear for a job interview is……. This is no office dress, but thanks to Mood Fabrics, I’ve made a dress ready for our hot summer nights and ‘dressy casual’ occasions! The top layer is an Italian red coral cotton eyelet which reminded me of a Vineyard Vines dress, inspiring me to give it a try. The structure of the dress and added depth of color are enhanced from the lining. Labeled a hibiscus cotton batiste (no longer available) on the Mood website – the fabric more like a cotton poplin with stretch! Actually I prefer this […]

Easy-to-Wear Cotton Dress

Hey everyone! Well, the humidity has arrived, and so have the mosquitoes.  I think it’s safe to say that we are in the throes of summer here in the Gulf Coast.  Which can really only mean one thing for a gal like me – dresses. And also that my electricity bill is about to skyrocket, but we’ll save that sad tale for another day. I pretty much live in dresses from mid-April to November.  Sure, shorts might be the staple of summer for some people, but I’ll take a frock that allows for a little breeze to pass through any day […]

A Coral and Floral Draped-Back Top

I’ve been craving more easy pieces in my wardrobe lately. I would just love a closet full of pieces that can be effortlessly thrown together into outfits in the morning. I try really hard not to live in running clothes day in and day out, but some days I only have about five seconds to get ready.  It would be so nice to really only need those five seconds… because I love wearing everything in my closet and because so many things work well together. I started towards this goal a few months ago by de-cluttering and giving away a whole bunch of things I […]
