Silk Faille Oscar de la Renta Sheath Dress

Good morning, Mood Fabrics! I’m thrilled to join the ranks of the Mood Sewing Network, which I’ve long been a fan and reader of. Thank you so much to Meg for inviting me on board! For my first Mood Sewing Network project, I was led by pure, unadulterated fabric lust. This gorgeous silk faille, designed by Oscar de la Renta and available in Mood’s online store, sent me swooning. Check out those flowers! Don’t they look straight out of a tropical garden? Considering the dreadful winter we’ve been having in Texas, a (sartorial) trip to the tropics was too tempting [...]

Woolly Jacket and Sheath Dress

There I go again, looking off to the upper left corner, where no doubt someone is walking swiftly, coldly by, wondering what I’m doing down there. I’m loving my outfit, THAT’S WHAT I’M DOING. Nope, I’m not gonna lie, I love it.  It’s all wool all the time, and it did an excellent job of keeping me warm in the 19 degree air.  Well, you know, proportionally, considering it’s just a sheath dress and cropped jacket… Oh but the jacket fabric.  THE JACKET FABRIC.  Found on Mood Fabric’s magical upper floor, immediately hugged to chest and guarded with my life. [...]

Perky Stretch-Cotton Pencil Skirt

This winter has been a very long and very cold one for much of the United States and I for one am getting quite tired of it. So if I can’t beat the cold temperatures, my wardrobe can add some warmth to winter. Color…. bright and bold to counteract white snow and gray skies. For the brightest and bold color, I picked Mood Fabrics’ Nanette Lepore Orange Retro Print Stretch Cotton. It is just a mid-winter’s dream. I love this pop of color and it gives me hope spring is coming (only 40-some days away). My pattern for this fabulous [...]

Silk Crepe de Chine Sleeveless Blouse

Have you made your Marfy yet? Thanks to Leisa Stanton of A Challenging Sew, I had no more excuses to avoid the chic Italian patterns without instructions. Not only are three patterns available for free downloads on the Marfy website, but Leisa is providing sew-a-longs for the patterns on her blog. How do you like it? The pattern is Marfy 1913, and after two muslins I was ready to cut my designer silk crepe de chine from Mood Fabrics. When the silk arrived in July, I was tempted to make my 5th sleeveless ruffled top. “No! No! No!” exclaimed the [...]

Transitional Basics in Beautiful Fabrics

I’ve been needing to fill in the blanks in my closet with classic “go-to” pieces for a while now.  And what better time than transitional wardrobe season with classic black and white. I love white shirts and white blouses.  The more interesting, the better… a not-so basic “basic” you could say. This Rebecca Taylor Vogue 1387 blouse is perfect.  It’s great for layering under a jacket now and perfect on its own for the warmer months.  I chose this beautiful Carolina Herrera single-ply silk crepe  from Mood Fabrics because it reminded me of the original designer garment. And what a [...]
